Using a warm water washer
Keep a g ood d istanc e of 12 inc hes (30 c m) or more b etween the
washer nozzle and the vehic le. Do not wash the same area c ontinuously.
If a stain will not c ome out easily, wash b y hand . Some warm water
washers are of the hig h temp erature, hig h p ressure typ e and they c an
d amag e or d eform the resin p arts suc h as mould ing s, or c ause water
to leak into the vehic le.
Waxing and polishing
Always wash and d ry the vehic le b efore waxing and p olishing .
Use a g ood q uality p olish and wax and ap p ly them ac c ord ing to the
manufac turer ’s instruc tions. Wax or p olish when the p ainted surf ac e is
c ool.
Be sure to p olish and wax the c hrome trim, as well as the p ainted sur-
fac es. Loss of wax on a p ainted surfac e lead s to lo ss of the orig inal lus-
ter and also q uic kens the d eterioration of the surf ac e. It is rec ommend ed
that a c oat of wax b e ap p lied at least onc e a month , or whenever the
surfac e no long er rep els water.
If the ap p earanc e of the p aint has d iminished to th e p oint where the lus-
ter or tone c annot b e restored , lig htly p olish the surfac e with a fine-
g rained c omp ound . Never p olish just the affec ted ar ea, b ut inc lud e the
surround ing area as well. Always p olish in only one d irec tion. A No. 2000
g rain c omp ound is rec ommend ed . Never use a c oarse-g rained c om-
p ound . Coarser g rained c omp ound s have a smaller g ra in-size numb er
and c ould d amag e the p aint. After p olishing with a c omp ound , c oat with
wax to restore the orig inal luster. Freq uent p olish ing with a c omp ound or
an inc orrec t p olishing tec hniq ue will result in rem oving the p aint layer
and exp osing the und erc oat. When in d oub t, it is al ways b est to c ontac t
your SUBARU d ealer or an auto p aint sp ec ialist. Cleaning aluminum wheels
Promp tly wip e the aluminum wheels c lean of any kind of g rime or
ag ent. If d irt is left on too long , it may b e d iffi c ult to c lean off.

Changing the oil and oil filter
Chang e the oil and oil filter ac c ord ing to the main tenanc e sc hed ule in
the “Warranty and Maintenanc e Booklet ”.
The eng ine oil and oil filter must b e c hang ed more freq uently than
listed in the maintenanc e sc hed ule when d riving on d usty road s,
when short trip s are freq uently mad e when towing a trailer, or when
d riving in extremely c old whether.
1. Warm up the eng ine b y letting the eng ine id le for ab out 10 minutes
to ease d raining the eng ine oil.
2. Park the vehic le on a level surfac e and stop the eng ine.
3. Remove the oil filler c ap .

4. Drain out the eng ine oil b y removing the d rain p l ug while the en-
g ine is still warm. The used oil should b e d rained into an ap p rop riate
c ontainer and d isp osed of p rop erly.
WARNING
Be careful not to burn yourself with hot engine oil.
5. Wip e the seating surfac e of the d rain p lug with a c lean c loth and
tig hten it sec urely with a new sealing washer after the oil has c om-
p letely d rained out.

6. Remove the und er c over.
7. Remove the oil filter with an oil filter wrenc h.
8. Before installing a new oil filter, ap p ly a thin c oat of eng ine oil to the
seal.
9. Clean the rub b er seal seating area of the lower c rank c ase and
install the oil filter b y hand turning . Be c areful not to twist or d amag e
the seal.
10. Tig hten it ap p roximately two-third s of a turn af ter the seal makes
c ontac t with und ersid e of the c rank c ase.
CAUTION
Never over tighten the oil filter because that can result in an oilleak.
11. Reinstall the und er c over.
12. Pour the sp ec ified amount of eng ine oil throug h the filler nec k.
Oil c ap ac ity: 4.2 US q t (4.0 liters, 3.5 Imp q t)
13. Start the eng ine and make sure that no oil leaks ap p ear around
the filter ’s rub b er seal.
14. Run the eng ine until it reac hes the normal op era ting temp erature.
Then stop the eng ine and wait a few minutes to allo w the oil d rain
b ac k. Chec k the oil level ag ain and if nec essary, a d d more eng ine oil.

Windshield washer fluid
CAUTION
Never use engine coolant as washer fluid because it could cause paint damage.
Chec k the level of the washer fluid at eac h fuel st op . If the level is low, fill
the fluid up to the nec k of the reservoir.
Use wind shield washer fluid . If wind shield washer f luid is unavailab le use
c lean water.
In areas where water freezes in winter, use an anti -freeze typ e wind shield
washer fluid . SUBARU Wind shield Washer Fluid c ontai ns 58.5% methyl
alc ohol and 41.5% surfac tant, b y volume. Its freezi ng temp erature varies
ac c ord ing to how muc h it is d iluted , as ind ic ated b elow.

Grease, wax, insec ts, or other materials on the win
d shield or the wip er
b lad e results in jerky wip er op eration and streakin g on the g lass. If you
c annot remove the streaks after op erating the wind s hield washer or if the
wip er op eration is jerky, c lean the outer surfac e o f the wind shield (or rear
wind ow) and the wip er b lad es using a sp ong e or soft c loth with a neutral
d eterg ent or mild -ab rasive c leaner. After c leaning , rinse the wind shield
and wip er b lad es with c lean water. The wind shield i s c lean if b ead s d o
not form when you rinse the wind shield with water.
CAUTION
Do not clean the wiper blades with gasoline or a solvent, such as
paint thinner or benzene. This will cause deterioration of thewiper blades.
If you c annot eliminate the streaking even after fo llowing this method ,
rep lac e the wip er b lad es using the following p roc ed ures:
1. Raise the wip er arm off the wind shield .
2. Remove the wip er b lad e assemb ly b y hold ing its p i vot area and p ush-
ing it in the d irec tion shown b y the arrow while d e p ressing the wip er
b lad e stop p er.

3. Grasp the loc ked end of the b lad e rub b er assemb ly and p ull it firmly
until the stop p ers on the rub b er are free of the me tal sup p ort.
