THE SRS AIRBAG. Always use the child safety locks whenever a child rides in the
rear seat. Serious injury could result if a child accidentallyopened the door and fell out. Refer to the ªDoor locksº section inchapter 2. Always lock the passenger's windows using the lock switch
when children are riding in the vehicle. Failure to follow this pro-cedure could result in injury to a child operating the power win-
dow. Refer to the ªPower windowsº section in chapter 2. Never leave unattended children in the vehicle. They could ac-
cidentally injure themselves or others through inadvertent opera-
tion of the vehicle. Also, on hot or sunny days, temperature in a
closed vehicle could quickly become high enough to cause se-vere or possibly fatal injuries to them.



ENGINE EXHAUST GAS (CARBON MONOXIDE)
WARNING
Never inhale engine exhaust gas. Engine exhaust gas contains
carbon monoxide, a colorless and odorless gas which is danger- ous, or even lethal, if inhaled. Always properly maintain the engine exhaust system to pre-
vent engine exhaust gas from entering the vehicle. Never run the engine in a closed space, such as a garage, ex-
cept for the brief time needed to drive the vehicle in or out of it. Avoid remaining in a parked vehicle for a lengthy time while
the engine is running. If that is unavoidable, then use the ventila-tion fan to force fresh air into the vehicle. Always keep the front ventilator inlet grille free from snow,
leaves or other obstructions to ensure that the ventilation system
always works properly.

If at any time you suspect that exhaust fumes are entering the
vehicle, have the problem checked and corrected as soon as pos-
sible. If you must drive under these conditions, drive only with allwindows fully open. Keep the trunk lid or rear gate closed while driving to prevent
exhaust gas from entering the vehicle.
DRINKING AND DRIVING WARNING
Drinking and then driving is very dangerous. Alcohol in the
bloodstream delays your reaction and impairs your perception,judgment and attentiveness. If you drive after drinking ± even ifyou drink just a little ± it will increase the risk of being involved ina serious or fatal accident, injuring or killing yourself, your pas-sengers and others. In addition, if you are injured in the accident,
alcohol may increase the severity of that injury. Please don't drink and drive.





DRUGS AND DRIVING

There are some drugs (over the counter and prescription) that can delay your reaction time and impair your perception, judg-ment and attentiveness. If you drive after taking them, it may in-
crease your, your passengers' and other persons' risk of being
involved in a serious or fatal accident.

SRS side airbag (if equipped)
WARNING
The SRS aide airbag is designed as only a supplement to the
primary protection provided by the seatbelt. It does not do away with the need to fasten seatbelts. It is also important to wear your
seatbelt to help avoid injuries that can result when an occupant isnot seated in a proper upright position. Do not sit or lean unnecessarily close to either front door. The
SRS side airbag is stored in both front seat seatbacks next to the
door, and it provides protection by deploying rapidly (faster thanthe blink of an eye) in the event of a side impact collision. Howev-
er, the force of SRS side airbag deployment may cause injuries ifyour head or other body parts are too close to the SRS side air-bag. Do not rest your arm on either front door or its internal trim. It
could be injured in the event of SRS side airbag deployment. Never allow a child to kneel on the front passenger ’s seat fac-
ing the side window or to wrap his/her arms around the front seat
seatback. In the event of an accident, the force of SRS side airbag
deployment could seriously injure or even kill the child becausehis/her head or arms or other body parts are close to the side air-bag. Since your vehicle is also equipped with a passenger ’s SRS
frontal airbag, children aged 12 and under should be placed inthe rear seat anyway and should be properly restrained at alltimes.

Do not attach accessories to the door trim or near either SRS
side airbags and do not place objects near the SRS side airbags. In the event of the SRS side airbag deployment, they could bepropelled dangerously toward the vehicle ’s occupants and cause
injuries. Do not put any kind of cover or clothes or other objects over
either front seatback and do not attach labels or stickers to thefront seat surface on or near the SRS side airbag. They could pre-vent proper deployment of the SRS side airbag, reducing protec-tion available to the front seat ’s occupant.

To arm the system using power door locking switches

1. Close all wind ows and moonroofs (if so eq uip p ed ).
2. Remove the key from the ig nition switc h.
3. Op en the d oors and g et out of the vehic le.
4. Make sure that the eng ine hood (and the trunk lid ) are loc ked .
5. Close the d oors (and the rear g ate on the station wag on) b ut leave
only the d river ’s d oor or the front p asseng er ’s d oor op en.
6. Push the p ower d oor loc king switc h forward ( “LOCK ” sid e) to set
the d oor loc ks.
7. Close the d oor. The horn will sound one time, the p arking lig hts will
flash one time and the ind ic ator lig ht will start f lashing slowly (ap p roxi-
mately onc e every two sec ond s) to inform you that t he system has
armed . NOTE The system can be armed even if the engine hood, the windows and/or moonroofs are opened. Always make sure that they arefully closed before arming the system. Disarming the system
Briefly p ress the “UNLOCK/DISARM ” b utton (for less than two
sec ond s) on the remote transmitter. The d river ’s d oor will unloc k, the
horn will sound two times, the p arking lig hts will flash two times and
the ind ic ator lig ht will g o off.

Power windows
WARNING
When operating power windows, be extremely careful to pre-
vent anyone ’s fingers, arms or head from being caught in the
window. Always lock the passengers ’ windows using the lock switch
when children are riding in the vehicle. Before leaving the vehicle, always remove the key from the
ignition switch for safety and never allow an unattended child toremain in the vehicle. Failure to follow this procedure could result
in injury to a child operating the power window.

as the switc h is held .
Pull the switc h up lig htly and hold it. The wind ow will c lose as long as
