2-6 Rear-Door Security Locks
Your vehicle is equipped with rear-door security locks that
help prevent passengers from opening the rear doors of
your vehicle from the inside. To use one of these locks:
1. Open one of the rear doors.
2. On the inside of the rear door will be a lock. Insert
your key into this lock and turn it upward. This will
engage the safety lock. To disengage the feature, turn
the lock downward.
3. Close the door.
4. Do the same thing to the other rear door lock.
The rear doors of your vehicle cannot be opened from
the inside when this feature is in use. If you want to
open the rear door when the security lock is on, unlock
the door and then open the door from the outside.
Lockout Protection Feature
To protect you from locking your key in the vehicle, this
feature stops the power door locks from locking when
the keys are in the ignition and a door is open.
If a power lock switch is pressed when a door is open
and the key is in the ignition, all of the doors will lock
and then the driver's door will unlock.
Leaving Your Vehicle
If you are leaving the vehicle, take your keys, open your
door and set the locks from inside. Then get out and
close the door.
Remote Keyless Entry (Option)
If your vehicle has this feature, you can lock and unlock
your doors or unlock your trunk from about 3 feet (1 m)
up to 30 feet (9 m) away using the remote keyless entry
transmitter supplied with your vehicle.

radio frequency subject to Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) Rules and with Industry Canada.

2-12 Parking at Night
Park in a lighted spot, close all windows and lock your
vehicle. Remember to keep your valuables out of sight.
Put them in a storage area, or take them with you.
Parking Lots
If you park in a lot where someone will be watching
your vehicle, it's best to lock it up and take your keys.
But what if you have to leave your ignition key?
If possible, park in a busy, well lit area.
Put your valuables in a storage area, like your
trunk or glove box. Be sure to close and lock the
storage area.
Close all windows.
Lock the glove box.
Lock all the doors except the driver's.
Then take the door key and remote keyless entry
transmitter with you.
Content Theft-Deterrent
(If Equipped)
Your vehicle may be equipped with a content
theft
-deterrent alarm system.
With this system, a light on the radio will flash.
This light reminds you to activate the theft
-deterrent
system. Here's how to do it:
1. Open the door.
2. Lock the door with the power door lock switch or the
remote keyless entry transmitter. The SECURITY
light should come on and stay on. If using the remote
keyless entry transmitter, the door does not need
to be open.
3. Close all doors. The SECURITY light will slowly
flash once the system is armed.

Vehicle Customization Settings
Some of your vehicle's convenience features can be reset
or customized to perform according to your preference.
Customization cannot be changed with the AM
-FM Stereo
radio. See your dealer to have the settings changed. The
features you can program depend upon the options that
came with your vehicle. The following list shows the
features that can be reset or customized along with the
option you need to program that feature:

Exit Vehicle Customization Mode
To reset or customize your vehicle's features, you must
first enter the vehicle customization main menu.
To enter the main menu:
1. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON and the radio to off.
2. Press and hold the DISP button on the radio for at
least five seconds until SETTINGS is displayed.
3. Press the SEEK up or down arrows to scroll through
each available feature on your main menu.
4. Press the PREV or NEXT buttons to scroll through
the lower menu. An asterisk will appear next to the
item that is the current setting.

NOTICE:
If your key seems stuck in OFF and you can't
turn it, be sure you are using the correct key; if
so, is it all the way in? If it is, then turn the
steering wheel left and right while you turn the
key hard. But turn the key only with your hand.
Using a tool to force it could break the key or the
ignition switch. If none of this works, then your
vehicle needs service.
ACC (ACCESSORY): This is an operation in which
you can operate your electrical power accessories. With
the key in this position., the automatic transaxle and
steering column will unlock.
ON: This is the position to which the switch returns
after you start the engine and release the switch. The
switch stays in ON when the engine is running. But even
when the engine is not running, you can use ON to
operate your electrical power accessories and to display
some instrument panel messages and warning lights.START: This position starts the engine. When the
engine starts, release the key. The ignition switch will
return to ON for normal driving.
When the engine is not running, ACC and ON allow you
to operate your electrical accessories, such as the radio.
A warning tone will sound if you open the driver's door when
the ignition is in OFF or ACC and the key is in the ignition.
Starting Your Engine
Move your shift lever to PARK (P) or NEUTRAL (N).
Your engine won't start in any other position
-- that's a
safety feature. To restart when you're already moving,
use NEUTRAL (N) only.
NOTICE:
Don't try to shift to PARK (P) if your vehicle is
moving. If you do, you could damage the
transaxle. Shift to PARK (P) only when your
vehicle is stopped.

2-47 Delayed Entry Lighting
Delayed entry lighting illuminates your vehicle's interior
for a period of time after all the doors have been closed.
The ignition must be off for delayed entry lighting to
work. Just after all the doors have been closed, the delayed
entry lighting feature will continue to work until:
the ignition is in ON,
the doors are locked or
an illumination period of 25 seconds has elapsed.
If during the illumination period a door is opened, the
timed illumination period will be canceled and the
interior lamps will remain on since a door is open.
Delayed Exit Lighting
This feature illuminates your vehicle's interior for a period
of time after the ignition key is removed from the ignition.
The vehicle's ignition must be off for delayed exit
lighting to work. When the ignition key is removed,
interior illumination will activate and remain on until:
the ignition is in ON,
or the power door locks are activated
or an illumination period of 25 seconds has elapsed.If during the illumination period a door is opened, the
timed illumination period will be canceled and the
interior lamps will remain on since a door is open.
Parade Mode
The instrument panel has an added feature called Parade
Mode to assist you in seeing the instrument cluster and
radio if your headlamps are on in the daylight.
Rearview Mirror Reading Lamps
Use the switch next to each lamp to turn them on
and off.
Reading Lamps
The reading lamps are located on the assist handles in
the roof. These lamps and the interior courtesy lamps
come on when any door is opened and it is dark outside.
Press the button to turn them on. Press it again to turn
them off.
Dome Lamp
The dome lamp will come on when you open the doors.
You can also turn this lamp on by turning the headlamp
knob clockwise.

Cellular Phone Readiness Package

Your vehicle may be equipped with a wiring harness that
will work with a dealer

Universal Transmitter (If Equipped)
This transmitter allows you to consolidate the functions of
up to three individual hand
-held transmitters. It will
operate garage doors and gates, or with the accessory
package, other devices controlled by radio frequency such
as home/office lighting systems and security systems.
The transmitter will learn and transmit the frequencies
of most current transmitters and is powered by your
vehicle's battery and charging system.

Programming the Transmitter
Do not use the transmitter with any garage door opener
that does not have the ªstop and reverseº feature.
This includes any garage door opener model
manufactured before April 1, 1982.
Be sure that people and objects are clear of the garage
door you are programming!
Your vehicle's engine should be turned off while
programming the transmitter. Follow these steps to
program up to three channels:
1. If you have not previously programmed a universal
channel, proceed to Step 2. Otherwise, hold down
the two outside buttons on the universal transmitter
until the red light begins to flash rapidly
(approximately 20 seconds). Then release the
buttons. This procedure initializes the memory and
erases any previous settings for all three channels.

SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM
If this message appears
when you are driving, there
is a problem with your
traction control system and
your vehicle is in need
of service.
When this message is displayed, the system will not
limit wheel spin. The message will stay on for
60 seconds and then go out. Four chimes will also be
heard. Adjust your driving accordingly.BATTERY
When the vehicle is
started this message
will be displayed for
three seconds.
If the message is displayed when the engine is running,
you may have a problem with your charging system.
If there is a problem with the charging system, four
chimes will sound when the message comes on. The
battery display will also stay on while the key is in ON
until the engine is started.
If the message stays on after starting the engine it could
indicate a problem with the generator drive belt, or some
other charging system problem. Have it checked right
away. Driving with this message on could drain
your battery.
If you must drive a short distance with this message
displayed, it helps to turn off all your accessories, such
as the radio and the air conditioner.
