Speedometer and Odometer
Your speedometer lets you see your speed in both miles
per hour (mph) and kilometers per hour (km/h). Your
odometer shows how far your vehicle has been driven
in either miles (used
in the United States) or in
kilometers (used in Canada).
Your Buick has a tamper-resistant odometer. If you see
ERROR, you’ll know someone has probably tampered
with it and the numbers may not be accurate.
You may wonder what happens if your vehicle needs
a new odometer installed. If the new one can be set to
the mileage total of the old odometer, then that will be
done. But if it can’t, then it will be set at zero and
a label
must be put
on the driver’s door to show the old mileage
reading when the new odometer was installed.
Trip Odometer
Your trip odometer tells how far you have driven since
you last reset it.
To set it to zero, press the button on the
right side
of the instrument cluster.
Your triphelect reset switch will
go back and forth
between the odometer and the trip odometer if the button
is pressed and released within 1.5 seconds. If the button is
pressed and held for longer than
1.5 seconds while in the trip
odometer mode, it will be reset to zero. If the button
is pressed and held for longer than 1.5 seconds while in
the odometer mode, it will have no effect.

The tachometer displays
the engine speed
in
thousands of revolutions
per minute (rpm).
NOTICE:
Do not operate the engine with the tachometer in
the red area, or engine damage may occur.

Service
Your Buick dealer knows your vehicle best and wants
you to be happy with it.
We hope you’ll go to your
dealer for all your service needs. You’ll get genuine GM
parts and GM-trained and supported service people.
We hope you’ll want
to keep your GM vehicle all GM.
Genuine GM parts have one
of these marks:
Doing Your Own Service Work
If you want to do some of your own service work, you’ll
want to use the proper Buick Service Manual. It tells
you much more about how
to service your Buick than
this manual can.
To order the proper service manual, see
“Service and Owner Publications’’ in the Index.
Your vehicle has an air bag system. Before attempting to
do your own service work, see “Servicing Your
Air
Bag-Equipped Buick” in the Index. You
should keep a record with
all parts receipts and list
the mileage and the date
of any service work you
perform. See “Maintenance Record” in the Index.

A CAUl ON:
-
You can be injured and your vehicle could be
damaged
if you try to do service work on a
vehicle without knowing enough about it.
Be sure you have sufficient knowledge,
experience, the proper replacement parts
and tools before you attempt any vehicle
maintenance task.
Be sure to use the proper nuts, bolts and
other fasteners. “English” and “metric”
fasteners can be easily confused.
If you use
the wrong fasteners, parts can later break
or fall
off. You could be hurt.
