Remote Trunk Release Lockout (Option)
The trunk release lockout valet switch in the trunk
allows you to secure items in the trunk. By pressing the
left side
of the valet switch, the remote trunk release
button below the driver’s door armrest will be disabled.
Push the right side
of the valet switch to enable the
remote
trunk release button to work again.
-, Trunk Security Override (Option)

,. . opens the trunk even if the remote trunk release lockout
switch
is activated.
Trunk Lid
It can be dangerous to drive with the trunk lid
open because carbon monoxide
(CO) gas can
come into your vehicle, You can’t see or smell
CO. It can cause unconsciousness and even death,
If you must drive with the trunk lid open or if
electrical wiring or other cabl’e connections must
pass through the seal between the body and the
trunk lid:’
Make sure all windows are shut.
0 Thrn the fan on your heating or cooling
system to its highest speed with the setting
on
ECON or VENT. That will force outside
air into your vehicle. See “Comfort
Controls” in the Index.
If you have air outlets on or under the
instrument panel, open them all the
way.

Safety Belt Reminder Light
When the key is turned to RUN or START, a chime will
come on for about eight seconds to remind people to
fasten their safety belts.
’
The safety belt light will
also come
on and stay on
for about 70 seconds. If the
driver’s belt
is already
buckled, neither the chime nor the light will come on.
Air Bag Readiness Light
There is an air bag readiness light on the instrument
panel, which shows
AIR BAG. The system checks the
air bag’s electrical system for malfunctions. The light
tells you
if there is an electrical problem. The system
check includes the
air bag sensors, the air bag moduIes,
the wiring and the crash sensing ahd diagnostic module.

You will see this light flash
for a few seconds when you
turn your ignition to ,RUN
or STmT. Then the light
should go out. This means
the system is ready.
If the air bag readiness light doesn’t come on when you
start your vehicle, or stays on, or comes on when you
are driving, your air bag system may not work properly.

Making Turns
NOTICE:
Making very sharp turns while trailering could
cause the trailer to come in contact with the
vehicle. Your vehicle could be damaged. Avoid
making very sharp turns while trailering.
When you’re turning with a trailer, make wider turns than
normal. Do this so your trailer won’t strike soft shoulders,
curbs, road signs, trees or other objects. Avoid jerky
or
sudden maneuvers. Signal well in advance. ‘
. Turn ,Signals When Towing a Trailer’
When you tow a trailer, your vehicle may need a
different
turn signal flasher and/or extra wiring. Check
with your Pontiac dealer. The green
arrows on your
instrument panel will flash whenever you signal a turn
or lane change. Properly hooked up,’ the trailer lamps
will also flash, telling other drivers you’re about to turn,
change lanes or stop. When towing a trailer, the green arrows
on your
instrument panel will flash for turns
even if the bulbs on
the trailer are burned out.
Thus, you may think drivers
behind you are seeing your signal when they are not. It’s
important to check occasionally to be sure the trailer
bulbs are still working.
Your vehicle has bulb warning lights. When you’plug
a trailer lighting system into your vehicle’s lighting
system, its bulb warning lights may not let you
know if
one of your lamps goes out. So, when you have a trailer
lighting system plugged in, be sure to check your
vehicle and trailer lamps
from time to time to be sure
they’re
all working. Once you disconnect the trailer
lamps, the bulb warning lights again can tell you
if one
of ypur vehicle lamps is out.
Driving On Grades
Reduce speed and shift to a lower gear before you start
down a long or steep downgrade.
If you don’t shift
down, you might have to use your brakes so much that
they. would get hot
and no longer work well.
On a long uphill grade, shift down to Dm (D) and
reduce your speed to around
45 mph (70 km/h) to reduce
the possibility of engine and transaxle overheating.

Supercharger Oil
Unless you are
technically qualified and have the proper
tools, you should let
your dealer or a
qualified service
center perform this
maintenance.
When to Check
Check oil level every 30,000 miles (50 000 km) or every
36 months, whichever occurs ,first.
What Kind of Oil to Use
See “Recommended Fluids and Lubricants” in the Index
and use only the recommended oil.
How to Check and Add Oil
Check oil only when the engine is cold. Allow the
engine to cool two to three hours after running.
If you remove the supercharger oil fill plug while
the engine
is hot, pressure may cause hot oil to
blow out
of the oil fill hole. You may be burned.
Do not remove the plug until the engine cools.
1. Remove the wiring harness shield.
2. Clean the area around the oil fill plug before
removing it.
3. Remove the oil fill plug using a Torx@ drive.
4. The oil level is correct when it just reaches the
bottom of the threads of the inspection hole.
5. Replace the oil plug with the O-ring in place. Torque
6. Replace wiring harness shield. to
88 lb-in (10 N-m).

4. Lift up on both plastic side flaps at the same time
(driver’s side shown) and lift the assembly out.
5. Carefully let go of the decklid and let it raise
completely. The assembly will still be connected to
the wiring harness, but now you
will have access to
the bulbs.
6. Turn the bulb assembly counterclockwise to remove it.

Headlamp Wiring
The headlamp wiring is protected by an internal circuit
breaker.
An electrical overload will cause the lamps to go
on
.and off, or in mrne cases to re& off. .If this happens,
have
your headlamp system checked right away.
Windshield Wipers
The windshield wiper motor is protected by an internal
circuit breaker
and a fuse. If the motor overheats due to
heavy snow, etc., the wiper
will stop until the motor
cools. If tbe overload is .caused by some electrical
problem, be
sure to have it fixed.
Power Windows and Other Power Options
Circuit breakers in the fuse panel protect the power
windows other power accessories. When the current
load is too’heavy, the circ,uit breaker opens and closes,
protecting
the circuit until the problem is fixed or
goes away.
MaxifusedRelay Center
To check the fuses in this underhood fuse center, turn
the two knobs one-quarter turn counterclockwise and
loosen the metal wing nut on the passenger side of the
cover. Then remov’e the cover. The inside of the cover
has
a chart that explahs the features and controls
governed
by each fuse and relay.

Fuses and Circuit Breakers
The wiring circuits in your vehicle are protected from
short circuits by a combination of fuses, circuit breakers
and fusible thermal links. This greatly reduces the
chance of damage caused by electrical problems.
Look at the silver-colored band inside the fuse. If the
band is broken
or melted, replace the fuse. Be sure you
replace a bad fuse with a new one
of the identical size
and rating.
If you ever have a problem on the road and don’t have a
spare fuse,
you can borrow one that has the same
amperage. Just pick some feature of
your vehicle that
you can get along without -- like the radio or cigarette
lighter -- and use its fuse, if it is the eomect amperage.
Replace it as soon as you can.
There are two fuse blocks in your vehicle: the driver’s
side and passenger’s side fuse blocks.
Driver’s Side Fuse Block
The driver’s side fuse block is to the left of the steering
wheel, under the instrument panel.
Snap off the cover to reveal the fuses. You’ll find a fuse
puller clipped to the inside of the cover. Place the wide
end of the fuse puller over the plastic end of the fuse.
Squeeze the ends over the fuse and pull it out.
Spare fuses are located in the slots labeled “Spare”
on
the following chart.
When finished, replace the cover by snapping it back
up
into place.
