7. Installthe main bearing caps.
Check clearance with plastigage (see page 7-9), thentighten the bearing cap bolts in 2 steps.
First step: 25 N.m {2.5 kgf.m, 18 lbf.ft)
Second stop:
B1642 engine:
76 N.m {7.8 kgf.m, 56 lbf.ft)
D16Y5, D16Y7, D16Y8 engines:
51 N.m (5.2 kgf.m, 38 lbf.ft)
NOTE: Coat the thrust washer surfaces and boltthreads with oil.

NOTE:
. Use liquid gasket, part No. 08718 - 0001 or08718-0003.
. Check that the mating surfaces are clean and drybefore apptying liquid gasket.
. Apply liquid gasket evenly, being careful to coverall the mating surface.. To prevent oil leakage, apply liquid gasket to theinner threads of the bolt holes.. Do not install the parts if five minutes or morehave elapsed since applying the liquid gasket.
Instead reapply liquid gasket after removing theold residue.
. After assembly, wait at least 30 minutes beforefilling the engine with oil.
L Apply liquid gasket to the block mating surface ofthe right side cover, then install it on the cylinderblock.
Bl6A2 engine;
Apply tiquid gaslet alongthe broken line.

9. Apply liquid gasket to the oil pump mating surtace
of the block, then install the oil pump on the cylin-
der block.
Apply grease to the lips of the oil seals.
Thgn, align the inner rotor with the crankshaft and
install the oil pump. When the pump is in place,
clean any excess grease off the crankshaft. Check
that the oil seal lips are not distorted.

OilJet (B1642 engine)
Inspection
1.Remove the oil jet (see page 8-3) and inspect it asfollows.
Make sure that a 1.1 mm (0.04 in) diameter drillwill go through the nozzte hole (j.2 mm (0.05 in)diameter).
Insert the other end of the same 1.1 mm (0.04 in)drill into rhe oil intake (i.2 mm (0.05 in) diame_ter).
Make sure the check ball moves smoothly andhas a stroke of approximately 4.0 mm (0.16 in).Check the oil jet operation with an air nozzle. ltshould take at least 200 kPa (2.0 kgf/cm,, 28 psi)to unseat the check ball.
NOTE: Replace the oil jet assembly if the nozzlers damaged or bent.
CHECK BALLSPRING16 N.m 11.6 kgf,m, t2 tbf.fil
Mounting torque is critical. Be very precise wheninstalling.
Torque: 16 N.m (1.6 kgt.m, 12 tbt.ft)

Engine Coolant Refilling and Bleeding
CAUTION: when pouring engine coolant, be sure to
shut the relay box lid and not to lst coolant spill on the
eleqtrical parts or the paint. lf any coolant spills, rinse it
off immediately.
1. Slide the heater temperature control lever to maxl-
mum heat. Make sure the engine and radiator are
cool to the touch.
Remove the radiator caP.
Loosen the drain plug, and drain the coolant'
Remove the drain bolt from the cylinder block'

Apply liquid gasket to the drain bolt threads, then
reinstall the bolt with a new washer and tighten 't
securely.
Tighten the radiator drain plug securely
Remove, drain and reinstall the reservoir' Fill the
tank halfway to the MAX mark with water, then up
to the MAX mark with antitreeze.

Remove the timing belt (see section 6).
Turn the water pump pulley counterclockwise.Check that it tarns freely.
Check for signs of seal leakage.
NOTE: A small amount of "weeping,,from the bleedhole is normal.

Remove the water pump by removing five bolts.
NOTE: Inspect, repair and clean the O-ring grooveand mating surface with the cylinder block.
