mode retractor on the shoulder belt portion of
the combination lap/shoulder safety belt for
front seat passenger and rear seat outboard
passengers.

In this operating mode, the shoulder belt
retractor will allow the occupant freedom of
movement, locking tight only on hard braking,
hard cornering or impacts of approximately
5 mph (8 km/h) or more.

The front seat belt retractor can also be made to
lock by pulling/jerking on the belt.

Automatic Locking Mode

In this operating mode, the shoulder belt
retractor will be automatically locked and remain
locked when the combination lap/shoulder
safety belt is buckled, and does not allow the
occupant freedom of movement. This mode

This mode must be used when installing a child

Pull the combination lap/shoulder belt from the
retractor so that the shoulder portion of the belt
crosses your shoulder and chest. Be sure the belt
is not twisted. If it is, remove the twist. Insert
the belt tongue into the proper buckle until you
hear a snap and feel it latch. Make sure the
tongue is securely fastened to the buckle by
pulling on tongue.

Use the shoulder belt on the outside
shoulder only. Never wear the shoulder
belt under the arm. Never swing it around
the neck over the inside shoulder. Never
use a single belt for more than one
person. Failure to follow these precautions
could increase the risk and/or severity of

Due to folding rear seats, sometimes the buckles
and tongues toward the center of the vehicle
may be hidden by the rear edge of the seat
cushion. Pull them out so they will be accessible.

combination lap and shoulder belt adjusts to
your movement. However, if you brake hard,
turn hard, or if your vehicle receives an impact
of 5 mph (8 km/h) or more, the lap and
shoulder belt will become locked and help

conditions, the pointer may indicate in the upper
range of the NORMAL band while the battery is
charging. If you are running electrical accessories
with the engine off or idling at a low speed, or

Anti-theft lock knobs are designed to preclude
unlocking the door by pulling up on the bullet
type lock knob. To unlock and open the front
door from the inside of the vehicle, pull on the
inside door handle.

To open the forward door of the side double
door from the inside, first unlock the door with
the lock plunger or the power lock switch. Now
reach into the depression in the door and pull
the release handle inward. Open the forward
side door from the outside by pulling the door
handle towards you.

The rear side door cannot be opened until the
forward side door is open. With the forward
side door open, pull the release handle (from the
middle of the rear door pillar) to open the rear
side door.

Sliding Door
[FV04001( E )03/94]
Unlock the door first. Then unlatch the sliding
door by pulling the inside handle to the rear, or
by pulling the outside handle outward. Now
slide the door back until the catch at the bottom
of the door engages. To close, pull the inside
handle forward or pull the outside handle
forward, and slide the door forward until it is
closed and latched. If the door is not completely
closed repeat the process.
