If the turn signal is left on, a warning chime will sound
and the
DIC will display TURN SIGNAL ON (after
driving about a mile) to remind you to turn it off.
Arrows that
flash rapidly when signaling for a turn or
lane change may be caused by
a burned out signal bulb.
Other drivers won’t see the turn signal.
Replace burned
out bulbs to help avoid possible
accidents. Check the fuse (see “Fuses and Circuit
Breakers”
in the Index) and for burned-out bulbs if the
arrow fails
to work when signaling a turn.
Headlamp High/Low Beam
Pull the turn signal lever all
the way toward you and
then release
it to change the
headlamps from low beam
to high or from high beam
to low. The blue light on the
instrument panel will be on
indicating high-beam usage.
Flash-To-Pass
This lets you use the high-beam headlamps to signal the
driver in front
of you that you want to pass. It works
even if
the headlamps are off.
Pull the turn signal lever toward you to use. When you do:
0 If the headlamps are off, the high-beam headlamps
will turn on. They’ll stay on as
long as you hold the
lever there. Release the lever to turn them off.
If the headlamps are on low beam, they will shift to
high beam and stay there. Pull
the lever toward you
to return to low beam.
0 If the headlamps are on high beam, they will switch
to low beam. To return to high beam, pull the lever
toward
you.

Turn Signals When Towing a Trailer
When you tow a trailer, your vehicle may need a
different turn signal flasher and extra wiring. Check
with your Cadillac dealer. The green arrows on your
instrument panel will flash whenever you signal a turn
or lane change. Properly hooked up, the trailer lamps
will also flash, telling other drivers you’re about to turn,
change lanes or stop.
When towing a trailer, the green arrows on your
instrument panel will flash for turns
even if the bulbs on
the trailer are burned
out. Thus, you may think drivers
behind you are seeing your signal when they are not.
It’s important to check occasionally to be sure the trailer
bulbs
are still working.
Driving On Grades
Reduce speed and shift to a lower gear before you start
down a long or steep downgrade.
If you don’t shift
down, you might have to use your brakes
so much that
they would
get hot and no longer work well.
On a long uphill grade, shift down and reduce your
speed to around
45 mph (70 km/h) or less to reduce the
possibility of engine and transaxle overheating.
Parking on Hills
You really should not park your vehicle, with a trailer
attached, on a hill. If something goes wrong, your rig
could start to move. People can be injured, and both
your vehicle and the trailer can be damaged.
But if you ever have to park your
rig on a hill, here’s
how to do it:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Apply your regular brakes, but do not shift into
PARK
(P).
Have someone place chocks under the trailer wheels.
When the wheel chocks
are in place, release the
regular brakes until the chocks absorb the load.
Reapply the regular brakes. Then shift into
PARK (P) firmly and apply your parking brake.
Release the regular brakes.
