Here are some tips for winter driving:

trunk.
Include an ice scraper, a small brush or broom, a supply
of .windshield washer fluid, a rag, some winter outer
clothing, a small shovel,
.a flashlight, a red cloth, and a
couple of reflective warning triangles. And, if you will
be driving under severe conditidns, include a small bag
of sand, a piece of old carpet or a couple of burlap bags
to help provide .traction. Be sure you properly secure
these items in your vehicle.

Engine Overheating
You will find a,coolant temperature gage and a w&ng
light about a hot engine on your instrument panel.
See
“Engine Coolant Temperature Gage” and “Engine
Coolant Temperature Warning Light” in the Index. You
also have a low’coolant light on your instrument panel.
See
“Low Coolant Light” in the Index.
If Steam Is, Coming From Your Engine
NOTICE:
If your engine catches fire because you keep
driving with
no coolant, your vehicle can be
badly damaged. The costly repairs would
not be
covered by your warranty.
If No Steam Is Coming,From Your Engine
If you get the overheat -warning but see-or hear no ~
steam, the problem may not be too serious. Sometimes
the engine can get a little too hot when you:
Climb a long hill on a hot day.
0 Stop after high speed driving.
0 Idle for long periods in traffic.
’ Tow a trailer.

Brakes
Brake Master Cylinder
Your brake master cylinder is here. It is filled with
DOT-3 brake fluid. should
have your brake system fixed, since a leak means
that sooner or later your brakes won’t work well, or
won’t work at all.
So, it isn’t a good idea to “top off’ I I
your brake fluid. Adding brake fluid won’t correct a
leak. If you add fluid when your linings are worn, then
you’ll have too much fluid when you get new brake
.linings.
You should add (or remove) brake fluid, as
necessary, only when work is done on the brake
hydraulic system.
There
are only two reasons why the brake fluid level in When your brake fluid falls to a low level, your brake
your master cylinder might go down. The first
is that the warning light will come on. See “Brake System Warning

normal brake lining wear. When new linings
are put in,
the fluid level goes back up. The other reason is that
fluid is leaking out of the bree system. If
it is, you
