Engine Oil Additives:
Don’t add anything to your oil. Your
Chevrolet dealer is ready
to advise if you
think something should be added.
When to Change Engine Oil:
See if any one of these is true for you:
0 Most trips are less than 4 miles (6
km).
It’s below freezing outside and most
trips are less than
10 miles (16 km).
The engine is at low speed most of the
time (as
in door-to-door delivery, or in
stop-and-go traffic).
0 You tow a trailer often.
0 Most trips are through dusty places.
If any one of these is true for your
vehicle, then you need to change your
oil
and filter every 3,000 miles (5 000 km)
or 3 months - whichever comes first. If none
of them is true, change the oil
every
7,500 miles (12 500 km) or 12
months - whichever comes first. Change
the filter at the first oil change and at
every other
oil change after that.
Engine Block Heater:
An engine block heater can be a big help
if you have to park outside in very cold
weather,

Automatic Transmission Fluid
When to Check and Change:
A good time to check your automatic
transmission fluid level is when the
engine oil is changed. Refer
to the
Maintenance Schedule
to determine when
to change your fluid. See “Scheduled
Maintenance Services” in the Index.
How to Check:
Because this operation can be a little
difficult, you may choose to have this
done at a Chevrolet dealership Service
Department.
If you do it yourself, be sure to follow all
the instructions here,
or you could get a
false reading
on the dipstick. damage

temperature gage moves and then remains
steady for ten minutes. Then follow the
hot check procedures.
To check transmission fluid cold: A cold
check is made after the vehicle has been
sitting for eight hours
or more with the
engine off and
is used only as a reference.
Let the engine run at idle for five minutes

Using Your Maintenance Schedules
This section tells you the maintenance services you should have done and when you should schedule them. Your
Chevrolet dealer knows your vehicle best and wants you to
be happy
with it. If you go to your dealer for your service
needs, you’ll know that GM-trained and supported service people will perform the work using genuine
GM parts.
These schedules are for vehicles that:
carry passengers and cargo within recommended limits.
You will find these limits on your vehicle’s Tire-Loading
Information label. See “Loading Your Vehicle” in the
Index.
are driven on reasonable road surfaces within legal

Se/ecting the Right Schedule
First you’ll need to decide which of the two schedules is
right for your vehicle. Here’s how to decide which schedule
to follow:
Schedule I
Is any one of these true for your vehicle?
Most trips are less than 4 miles (6 km).
Most trips are less than 10 miles (16 km) when outside
temperatures are below freezing.
The engine is at low speed most of the time (as in
door-to-door delivery, or
in stop-and-go traffic).
You operate your vehicle in dusty areas.
You tow a trailer.
If any one (or more) of these is true for your driving, follow
Schedule I.
Schedule I1
Follow Schedule II only if none of the above conditions is
true.

Follow Schedule I if your vehicle is
MAINLY driven under one or more of
the following conditions:
When most trips are less than 4 miles
When most trips are less than 10 miles

Rear Axle Service
Brake System Inspection
WHAT SHOULD BE DONE
Check the gear lubricant level in the rear axle and add if needed. See “Rear Axle” in the Index. A
fluid
loss in this system may indicate a problem. Check the system and repair it if needed. If your
vehicle
is used to pull a trailer, change the gear lubricant every 7,500 miles (12 500 km).
Inspect the complete system. Inspect brake lines and hoses for proper hookup, binding, leaks, cracks,
chafing, etc. Inspect disc brake pads for wear and rotors for surface condition. Also inspect drum
brake linings for wear and cracks. Inspect other brake parts, including drums, wheel cylinders,
calipers, parking brake, etc. The parking brake is self-adjusting and no manual adjustment is
required. You may need to have your brakes inspected more often if your driving habits or conditions
result in frequent braking.
NOTE: A low brake fluid level can indicate worn disc brake pads which may need to be serviced.
Also, if the brake system warning light stays on
or comes on, something may be wrong with the
brake system. See “Brake System Warning Light” in
the Index. If your anti-lock brake system
warning light stays on, comes on or flashes, something may be wrong with the anti-lock brake
system. See “Anti-Lock Brake System Warning Light” in
the Index.
