Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine vehicle@). Inflation is determined by the angle of the impact and the
vehicle’s deceleration, of which vehicle damage is only one indication.
Repair cost is not a good indicator of whether an air bag should have
deployed. 2-
_I What makes an air bag inflate?
In a frontal or near-frontal impact of sufficient severity, sensors
- strategically located on the vehicle detect that the vehicle is suddenly
stopping as a result of a crash. These sensors complete an electrical
circuit, triggering a chemical reaction of the sodium azide sealed in the
inflator. The reaction produces nitrogen gas, which inflates a cloth bag.
The inflator, cloth bag, and related hardware are all part of the air bag
inflator modules packed inside the steering wheel and in the instrument
panel in front
of the passenger.
How does an air bag restrain?
In moderate to severe frontal or near-frontal collisions, even belted
occupants can contact the steering wheel or the instrument panel. The air
bag supplements the protection provided by safety belts. Air bags
distribute the force of the impact more evenly over the occupant’s upper
body, stopping the occupant more gradually. But air bags would not
provide protection in many types of collisions, including rollovers and
rear and side impacts, primarily because an occupant’s motion is not
toward the air bag. Air bags should never be regarded as anything more
and near-frontal collisions.
What will you see after an air bag inflation?
__ than a supplement to safety belt protection in moderate to severe frontal
After the air bag has inflated, it will then quickly deflate. This occurs
so
quickly that some people may not even realize that the air bag inflated.
The air bag will
not impede the driver’s vision or ability to steer the
vehicle, nor will it hinder the occupants from exiting the vehicle. There
will be small amounts of smoke coming from vents in the deflated air
bags. Some components of the air bag module in the steering wheel hub
may be hot for a short time, but the portion of the bag that comes into
contact with you will not be hot to the touch. The nitrogen gas used to
inflate the ‘air bag will have vented into the passenger compartment, and
the bag will be deflated within seconds after the collision. Nitrogen makes
up about
80% of the air we breathe and is not hazardous. As the nitrogen

Please don’t cover the
light sensor.
If you cover the sensor, it will sense that is is dark outside and your lights
will come on.
__
Cornering Lights
If your exterior lights are on, the cornering lights will come on when you
-- signal a turn. This will provide more light for cornering when its dark.
Underhood Light
~
Your vehicle has a Delay Interior Lighting System (DIL). This system
controls power to the underhood light. Just pull up on the door handle
with the hood raised and the lamp will light for about
10 minutes. Every
minutes. The light will go off when you close the hood.
__ time the door handle is pulled up the light will stay on another 10
Daytime Running Lights (Canada Only)
The Canadian Federal Government has decided that “Daytime Running
Lights” (DRL) are
a useful feature, in that DRL can make your vehicle
more visible to pedestrians and other drivers during daylight hours. DRL
are required on new vehicles sold in Canada. -
__ Your DRL work with a light sensor on top of the instrument panel. Don’t
cover it up.

air conditioning system. The flashing will continue for about two minutes.
It means you should have your system serviced.
Defroster
To get fog or ice off the
windshield, push
the
Defroster button.
The fan speed
will work automatically or you can choose another fan
speed
if you want.
It will help a lot if
you first clear any ice and snow from the hood and the
air inlet (it’s between the hood and the windshield).
- Electronic Solar Sensor
Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine The Electronic Solar Sensor is part of the Electronic Climate Control
System (ECC). The sensor monitors the
sun’s solar radiation by telling
the
ECC system at what intensity the sun is. The ECC uses this
information to automatically make the necessary temperature
adjustments. The sensor is located in the defroster grille.
Rear Window Defogger
To get fog or ice off the
rear window, push the
Rear Defogger button.
With it, your rear window and both outside rearview mirrors are warmed.
To turn it off, push the button again. After
10 minutes, it will go off by
itself. To make it go longer, just push the button again.

detergents and oxygenates, and if they have been reformulated to reduce
vehicle emissions.
FUELS IN FOREIGN COUNTMES
If you plan on driving in another country outside the U.S. or Canada,
unleaded fuel may be hard to find.
Do not use leaded gasoline. If you use
even one tankful, your emission controls won’t work well or at all. With
continuous use, spark plugs can get fouled, the exhaust system can
corrode, and your engine
oil can deteriorate quickly. Your vehicle’s
oxygen sensor
will be damaged. All of that means costly repairs that
wouldn’t be covered by your warranty.
To check on fuel availability, ask an auto club, or contact a major oil
company that does business in the country where you’ll be driving.
You can also write us at the following address for advice. Just tell
us
where you’re going and give your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
