This light tells you that
your engine coolant has overheated or your
radiator cooling fans
are not working. If you
have been operating
your vehicle under
normal driving
conditions, you should
pull
off the road, stop
your vehicle and turn
-1 the engine off as soon
as possible.

Engine Temperature Warning Light
I This light tells you that
your engine has overheated.
If you have been operating your vehicle under normal driving conditions,
you should pull
off the road, stop the car and turn the engine off as soon
as possible.
A warning chime should also sound if you drive with this light
on. The chime will continue to sound until the ignition is turned
“off” or
the light goes out.
As a check, the light should come on for a few seconds
when you start your engine.

Charge Light
When you turn the key
to “Run,” this light will
come on briefly, to
show that your
alternator and battery
charging systems are
working.
If a light stays on, you need service, and you should take your Cadillac to
the dealer at once.
To save your battery until you get there, turn off all
accessories, and set your Electronic Climate Control system to “OFF.”

A computer monitors operation of your fuel, ignition and emission
control systems. This light should come on when the ignition is on, but
the engine
is not running, as a check to show you it is working..

It’s important to check occasionally to be sure the trailer bulbs are still
working.
Your vehicle has bulb warning lights. When you plug trailer lights into
your vehicle’s lighting system, its bulb warning lights may not let you
know if one
of your lights goes out. So, when you have trailer lights
plugged in, be sure to check your vehicle and trailer lights
from time to
time to be sure they’re all working. Once you disconnect the trailer lights,
the bulb warning lights again can tell you if one of your vehicle lights is
out.
Driving On Grades
Reduce speed and shift to a lower gear before you start down a long or
steep downgrade.
If you don’t shift down, you might have to use your
brakes
so much that they would get hot and no longer work well.
On a long uphill grade, shift down to “3” (Drive) and reduce your speed
to
45 mph (70 km/h) to reduce the possibility of engine and transaxle
overheating.
Parking on Hills
You really should not park your vehicle, with a trailer attached, on a hill.
If something goes wrong, your rig could start to move. People can be
injured, and both your vehicle and the trailer can be damaged.
But if you ever have to park your rig on a hill, here’s how to do it:
1. Apply your regular brakes, but don’t shift into “P” (Park) yet.
2. Have someone place chocks under the trailer wheels.
3. When the wheel chocks are in place, release the regular brakes until
the chocks absorb the load.
4. Reapply the regular brakes. Then shift into “P” (Park) firmly and
apply your parking brake.
5. Release the regular brakes.

you may have
a leak in the radiator hoses, heater hoses, radiator, water
pump or somewhere else in the cooling system.
A CAUTION:
Heater and radiator hoses, and other engine parts, can be very
hot. Don’t touch them. If you do, you can be burned.
Dodbrun the engine if there is a leak. If you run the engine, it
could lose all coolant. That could cause an engine fire, and you
could be burned. Get any leak Pied before you drive the vehicle.

If there seems to be no leak, check to see if the electric engine fans are
running.
If the engine is overheating, both fans should be running. If they
aren’t, your vehicle needs service.

The following explains your cooling system and how to add coolant when
it is
low. If you have a problem with engine overheating, see “Engine
Overheating” in the Index.
The proper coolant for your Cadillac will:
0 Give freezing protection down to -34°F (-37°C) .
0 Give boiling protection up to 262°F (128” C) .
0 Protect against rust and corrosion.
Help keep the proper engine temperature.
0 Let the warning lights work as they should.
What to Use:
Use a mixture
of one-half clean water (preferably distilled) and one-half
antifreeze that meets “GM Specification 1825-M,” which won’t damage
aluminum parts.
You can also use a recycled coolant conforming to GM
Specification 1825-M with a complete coolant flush and refill. Use GM
Engine Coolant Supplement (sealer) with any complete coolant change.
If you use these, you don’t need to add anything else.
A CAUTION:
Adding only plain water to your cooling system can be
dangerous. Plain water,
or some other liquid like alcohol, can
boil before the proper coolant mix
will. Your vehicle’s coolant
warning system is set for the proper coolant mix. With plain
water or the wrong mix, your engine could get too hot but you
wouldn’t get the overheat warning. Your engine could catch fire
and
you or others could be burned. Use a 50/50 mix of clean
Waf--- and
a proper anti” e. .-

A CAUTION:
You can be burned if you spill coolant on hot engine parts.
Coolant contains ethylene glycol, and it
will burn if the engine
parts are hot enougl- spill coolant on
a hot e-yine.

line up with the overflow tube on the radiator filler neck .L
When you replace your radiator pressure cap, an ACS cap is
recommended.
THERMOSTAT
Engine coolant temperature is controlled by a thermostat in the engine
coolant system. The thermostat stops the
flow of coolant through the
radiator until the coolant reaches a preset temperature.
When you replace your thermostat, an
AC@ thermostat is recommended.

Overloading your tires can cause overheating as a result of
too
much friction. You could have an air-out and a serious
accident. See “Loading Your Vehicle” in the Index.
Underinflated tires pose the
same danger as overloaded
tires. The resulting accident could cause serious iqjury.
Check all tires frequently to maintain the recommended
pressure. Tire pressure should be checked when your tires
are cold.
Overinflated tires are more likely to be cut, punctured, or
broken by a sudden impach such as whenyou hit a pothole.
Keep
tires at the recommended pressure.
Worn, old tires
can cause accidents. If your tread is badly
worn, or if your tires have been damaged, replace them.

Inflation - Tire Pressure
The Tire-Loading Information label which is on the driver’s door shows
the correct inflation pressures for your tires, when they’re
cold. “Cold”
means your vehicle has been sitting for at least three hours or driven no
more than a mile.
