Ford MotorCompany, Ford of Canada, Ford of Mexicoand service or repair facilities can retrievethis information when servicing your vehicle.Ford Motor Company may use thisinformation to determine if your warrantycovers any needed repairs.

Your new diesel engine will feel, drive andfunction somewhat differently than agasoline engine. Therefore it is veryimportant that you read and thoroughlyfamiliarize yourself and others operatingthe vehicle with this guide. There is aspecial procedure for turning off the dieselengine. See Starting a Diesel Engine(page 103). It is important to read andunderstand this material in order tomaintain the best service life for yourengine.
Ford may discontinue models or changespecifications without any notice andwithout incurring obligations.
Note:Either Ford Motor Company or anauthorized Ford dealer may have originallysold this incomplete vehicle to a vehiclemodifier who upfitted it. As a result, someof the options and features on this vehiclemay differ from what we describe in thismanual.
This manual may qualify the location of acomponent as left-hand side or right-handside. The side is determined when facingforward in the seat.

Diesel Engine Information
The diesel engine fuel system is apressurized two-stage filtration systemand consists of:
•A frame-mounted Fuel and WaterSeparator primary filter with an electricfuel pump and water drain
•An engine-mounted secondary fuelfilter
•A fuel injector for each cylinder (8total)
•A high-pressure fuel pump
•A high-pressure fuel rail for eachcylinder bank (2 total)
•Numerous high-pressure pipes fromthe high-pressure pump to the rails,and rails to the injectors
The fuel and water separator removesboth water and impurities from the fuel.The engine-mounted filter filters finerimpurities from the diesel fuel. Theengine-mounted fuel filter and theframe-mounted fuel filter should bechanged at the recommended serviceinterval or when indicated by theinformation display LOW FUEL PRESSUREmessage. See Scheduled Maintenance(page 325).
The fuel and water separator should bedrained at regular intervals (recommendedat every oil change) or when indicated bythe information display and water in fuelindicator light. See Fuel Quality (page108).
Proper fuel filter maintenance and promptwater draining when the water in fuel lightilluminates is essential to prevent injectionequipment damage. Ignoring the water infuel light or the information displaymessage WATER IN FUEL DRAIN FILTERcan cause your vehicle to go into a reducedpower mode.
A frame-mounted electric fuel pumplocated inside the fuel and water separatordraws fuel from the fuel tank to providepressurized fuel to the engine. The fuelpump contains a pressure relief valve foroverpressure protection in the event ofrestricted flow.
The fuel injection system is controlledthrough the powertrain control module.
Engine Protection Mode
Ford diesel engines are equipped withengine protection and emission controlsystems. These systems monitor criticaltemperatures and pressures, and modifyengine operation accordingly. Thesemodified engine performancecharacteristics are normal.

DATA RECORDING
WARNING: Do not connectwireless plug-in devices to the data linkconnector. Unauthorized third partiescould gain access to vehicle data andimpair the performance of safety relatedsystems. Only allow repair facilities thatfollow our service and repair instructionsto connect their equipment to the datalink connector.
We respect your privacy and arecommitted to protecting it. Theinformation contained in this publicationwas correct at the time of going to print,but as technology rapidly changes, werecommend that you visit the regional Fordwebsite for the latest information.
Your vehicle has electronic control unitsthat have data recording functionality andthe ability to permanently or temporarilystore data. This data could includeinformation on the condition and status ofyour vehicle, vehicle maintenancerequirements, events and malfunctions.The types of data that can be recorded aredescribed in this section. Some of the datarecorded is stored in event logs or errorlogs.
Note:Error logs are reset following a serviceor repair.
Note:We may provide information inresponse to requests from law enforcement,other government authorities and thirdparties acting with lawful authority orthrough a legal process. Such informationcould be used by them in legal proceedings.
Data recorded includes, for example:
•Operating states of systemcomponents, for example, fuel level,tire pressure and battery charge level.
•Vehicle and component status, forexample, wheel speed, deceleration,lateral acceleration and seatbeltstatus.
•Events or errors in essential systems,for example, headlamps and brakes.
•System responses to driving situations,for example, airbag deployment andstability control.
•Environmental conditions, for example,temperature.
Some of this data, when used incombination with other information, forexample, an accident report, damage to avehicle or eyewitness statements, couldbe associated with a specific person.
Service Data
Service data recorders in your vehicle arecapable of collecting and storingdiagnostic information about your vehicle.This potentially includes information aboutthe performance or status of varioussystems and modules in the vehicle, suchas engine, throttle, steering or brakesystems. In order to properly diagnose andservice your vehicle, Ford Motor Company(Ford of Canada in Canada), and serviceand repair facilities may access or shareamong them vehicle diagnosticinformation received through a directconnection to your vehicle whendiagnosing or servicing your vehicle.Additionally, Ford Motor Company (Fordof Canada, in Canada) may, wherepermitted by law, use vehicle diagnosticinformation for vehicle improvement orwith other information we may have aboutyou, for example, your contact information,to offer you products or services that mayinterest you. Data may be provided to our

service providers such as part suppliersthat may help diagnose malfunctions, andwho are similarly obligated to protect data.We retain this data only as long asnecessary to perform these functions or tocomply with law. Event Data
This vehicle is equipped with an event datarecorder. The main purpose of an eventdata recorder is to record, in certain crashor near crash-like situations, such as anairbag deployment or hitting a roadobstacle; this data assist in understandinghow a vehicle’s systems performed. Theevent data recorder is designed to recorddata related to vehicle dynamics andsafety systems for a short period of time,typically 30 seconds or less.
The event data recorder in this vehicle isdesigned to record such data as:
•How various systems in your vehiclewere operating;
•Whether or not the driver andpassenger seatbelts werebuckled/fastened;
•How far (if at all) the driver wasdepressing the accelerator and/or thebrake pedal; and
•How fast the vehicle was traveling; and
•Where the driver was positioning thesteering wheel.
This data can help provide a betterunderstanding of the circumstances inwhich crashes and injuries occur.
Note:Event data recorder data is recordedby your vehicle only if a non-trivial crashsituation occurs; no data is recorded by theevent data recorder under normal drivingconditions and no personal data orinformation (e.g., name, gender, age, andcrash location) is recorded. However, otherparties, such as law enforcement, couldcombine the event data recorder data withthe type of personally identifying dataroutinely acquired during a crashinvestigation.

To read data recorded by an event datarecorder, special equipment is required,and access to the vehicle or the event datarecorder is needed. In addition to thevehicle manufacturer, other parties, suchas law enforcement, that have such specialequipment, can read the information if theyhave access to the vehicle or the eventdata recorder.
Comfort, Convenience andEntertainment Data
Your vehicle has electronic control unitsthat have the ability to store data basedon your personalized settings. The data isstored locally in the vehicle or on devicesthat you connect to it, for example, a USBdrive or digital music player. You can deletesome of this data and also choose whetherto share it through the services to whichyou subscribe.
Comfort and Convenience Data
Data recorded includes, for example:
•Seat and steering wheel position.
•Climate control settings.
•Radio presets.
Entertainment Data
Data recorded includes, for example:
•Music, videos or album art.
•Contacts and corresponding addressbook entries.
•Navigation destinations.
Services That We Provide
If you use our services, we collect and usedata, for example, account information,vehicle location and driving characteristics,that could identify you. We transmit thisdata through a dedicated, protectedconnection. We only collect and use data
to enable your use of our services to whichyou have subscribed, with your consent orwhere permitted by law. For additionalinformation, see the terms and conditionsof the services to which you havesubscribed.

We recommend that you review the termsand conditions and data privacyinformation for any services to which yousubscribe. We take no responsibility forservices that third parties provide.
Vehicles With a ConnectivityDevice (If Equipped)
The connectivity device has aSIM. The connectivity device wasenabled when your vehicle wasbuilt and periodically sends messages tostay connected to the cell phone network.These messages could include informationthat identifies your vehicle, the SIM and theelectronic serial number of the connectivitydevice. Cell phone network serviceproviders could have access to additionalinformation, for example, cell phonenetwork tower identification.
Note:The connectivity device continues tosend this information unless you disable theconnectivity device. To find out more abouthaving the connectivity device disabled,contact the Ford Customer RelationshipCenter. See Connected Vehicle (page 314).

Use of your light truck as an ambulance,without the Ford Ambulance PreparationPackage voids the Ford New VehicleLimited Warranty and may void theemissions warranties. In addition,ambulance usage without the preparationpackage could cause high underbodytemperatures, over-pressurized fuel and arisk of spraying fuel, which could lead tofires.
If your vehicle has the Ford AmbulancePreparation Package, it is indicated on theSafety Compliance Certification Label. Thelabel is on the driver side door pillar or onthe rear edge of the driver door. You candetermine whether the ambulancemanufacturer followed ourrecommendations by directly contactingthat manufacturer.
MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS
EQUIPMENT

Regulations such as those issued by theFederal Highway Administration or issuedpursuant to the Occupational Safety andHealth Act (OSHA), and state and locallaws and regulations may requireadditional equipment for the way youintend to use your vehicle. It is theresponsibility of the registered owner todetermine the applicability of such laws
and regulations to your intended use forthe vehicle, and to arrange for theinstallation of required equipment. Thedealer has information about theavailability of equipment which can beordered for your vehicle.
ENTERING, EXITING OR
CLIMBING ON THIS VEHICLE
WARNING: Do not carry itemswhile entering, exiting or climbing. Makesure you keep a firm grip. Always facethe vehicle step and handle system whileclimbing up and down. Do not climbbehind the cab unless you have threepoint contact with a step and handlesystem at all times.
You must be careful and deliberate tominimize the possibility of personal injuryfrom a slip and fall when entering, exitingor climbing on your vehicle. Always usethe steps and assist handles beforeclimbing. Do not skip any steps or assisthandles. Use three point contact at alltimes with at least two feet and one handor two hands and one foot firmly placedduring all phases of entering, exiting orclimbing. Always keep your shoe soles andhands clean. Keep the steps and assisthandles free of snow, ice, oil, grease,substances or debris. Be sure to take extracare in bad weather. Avoid wearing thickgloves. Always perform trailer hook-upwhile standing on the ground.

We recommendthat you check with a NHTSA CertifiedChild Passenger Safety Technician
(CPST) to make sure that you properlyinstall the child restraint in your vehicleand that you consult your pediatrician tomake sure you have a child restraintappropriate for your child. WARNING: On hot days, thetemperature inside the vehicle can risevery quickly. Exposure of people oranimals to these high temperatures foreven a short time can cause death orserious heat related injuries, includingbrain damage. Small children areparticularly at risk.
