Note:Do not reduce tire pressureto change the ride characteristicsof the vehicle. If you do notmaintain the inflation pressure atthe levels specified by Ford, yourvehicle may experience a conditionknown as shimmy. Shimmy is asevere vibration and oscillation inthe steering wheel after the vehicletravels over a bump or dip in theroad that does not dampen out byitself. Shimmy may result fromsignificant under-inflation of thetires, improper tires (load range,size, or type), or vehiclemodifications such as lift-kits. Inthe event that your vehicleexperiences shimmy, you shouldslowly reduce speed by either liftingoff the accelerator pedal or lightlyapplying the brakes. The shimmyceases as the vehicle speeddecreases.
Maximum Inflation Pressure isthe tire manufacturer's maximumpermissible pressure and thepressure at which the maximum
load can be carried by the tire. Thispressure is normally higher than

Checking Pressure when tiresare hot:
If pressures are checked after tireshave been driven for more thanthree minutes or more than 1 mile,(2 km) the tires become hot andthe pressures will increase byapproximately 4 psi (27.6 kPa).Therefore when the tire pressureis adjusted under these conditions,it should be increased to a gaugereading of 4 psi (27.6 kPa) greaterthan the recommended coldinflation pressure.

This begins with the letters DOTand indicates that the tire meetsall federal standards. The nexttwo numbers or letters are theplant code designating where itwas manufactured, the next twoare the tire size code and the lastfour numbers represent the weekand year the tire was built. Forexample, the numbers 317 meanthe 31st week of 1997. After 2000the numbers go to four digits. Forexample, 2501 means the 25thweek of 2001. The numbers inbetween are identification codesused for traceability. Thisinformation is used to contactcustomers if a tire defect requiresa recall.
Tire ReplacementRequirements
Your vehicle is equipped with tiresdesigned to provide a safe rideand handling capability.
WARNING: Only usereplacement tires and wheelsthat are the same size, loadindex, speed rating, and type asthose originally provided for yourvehicle. The recommended tireand wheel sizes can be found onthe Tire Label on the driver side
door frame or the edge of thedriver door. If this information isnot found in those locations, orfor additional options, contactyour authorized dealer. Use ofany tire or wheel notrecommended, could affect thesafety and performance of yourvehicle, which could result in anincreased risk of loss of vehiclecontrol, vehicle rollover, personalinjury and death.
WARNING: To reduce therisk of serious injury, whenmounting replacement tires andwheels, you should not exceedthe maximum pressure indicatedon the sidewall of the tire to setthe beads without additionalprecautions listed below. If thebeads do not seat at themaximum pressure indicated,re-lubricate and try again.
WARNING: For a mountingpressure more than 20 psi(1.38 bar) greater than themaximum pressure, a Forddealer or other tire serviceprofessional should do themounting.

HIGH SPEED DRIVING CAN BEDANGEROUS
Correct inflation pressure isespecially important. However, athigh speeds, even with the correctinflation pressure, a road hazardfor example is more difficult toavoid and if contact is made, hasa greater chance of causing tiredamage than at a lower speed.Moreover, driving at high speedreduces the reaction timeavailable to avoid accidents andbring your vehicle to a safe stop.
If you see any damage to a tire orwheel, replace it with the spare atonce and visit a participating TireRetailer.
Exceeding the maximum speedsshown on the following page foreach type of tire will cause the tireto build up excessive heat whichcan cause tire damage that couldresult in sudden tire destructionand rapid air loss. Failure tocontrol a vehicle when one ormore tires experience a sudden airloss can lead to an accident.
In any case, you should notexceed reasonable speeds asindicated by the legal limitsand driving conditions.
DO NOT OVERLOAD: DRIVINGON ANY OVERLOADED TIRE ISDANGEROUS
The maximum load rating of yourtires is molded on the tire sidewall.Do not exceed this rating. Followthe loading instructions of themanufacturer of your vehicle andthis will ensure that your tires arenot overloaded. Tires which areloaded beyond their maximumallowable loads for the particularapplication will build up excessiveheat that may result in sudden tiredestruction. Do not exceed thegross axle weight rating for anyaxle on your vehicle.
TIRE ALTERATIONS
Do not make or allow to be made
any alterations on your tires.Alterations may prevent properperformance, leading to tiredamage which can result in anaccident. Tires which becomeunserviceable due to alterationssuch as truing, whitewall inlays,addition of balancing or sealantliquids, or the use of tire dressingcontaining petroleum distillatesare excluded from warrantycoverage.

When the malfunction indicator isilluminated, the system may not be ableto detect or signal low tire pressure asintended. TPMS malfunctions may occurfor a variety of reasons, including theinstallation of replacement or alternatetires or wheels on the vehicle that preventthe TPMS from functioning properly.Always check the TPMS malfunctiontelltale after replacing one or more tires orwheels on your vehicle to ensure that thereplacement or alternate tires and wheelsallow the TPMS to continue to functionproperly.
Note: Only use tire sealants in roadsideemergencies as they may cause damage tothe tire pressure monitoring system sensor.
Note: If the tire pressure monitoring systemsensor becomes damaged, it may notfunction.
Changing Tires With a TirePressure Monitoring System
Note:Each road tire is equipped with a tirepressure sensor located inside the wheeland tire assembly cavity. The pressuresensor is attached to the valve stem. Thepressure sensor is covered by the tire and isnot visible unless the tire is removed. Takecare when changing the tire to avoiddamaging the sensor.
You should always have your tires servicedby an authorized dealer.
Check the tire pressure periodically, atleast monthly, using an accurate tire gauge.See Inflating Your Tires in this chapter.
Understanding Your Tire PressureMonitoring System
The tire pressure monitoring systemmeasures pressure in your four road tiresand sends the tire pressure readings toyour vehicle. The low tire pressure warninglight turns on if the tire pressure issignificantly low. Once the light isilluminated, your tires are under-inflatedand need to be inflated to themanufacturer’s recommended tirepressure. Even if the light turns on and ashort time later turns off, your tire pressurestill needs to be checked.
When Your Temporary Spare Tire isInstalled
When you replace one of the road tireswith the temporary spare, the systemcontinues to identify an issue to remindyou that you need to repair and put backon the damaged road wheel and tireassembly on your vehicle.
To restore the full function of the tirepressure monitoring system, have thedamaged road wheel and tire assemblyrepaired and remounted on your vehicle.
When You Believe Your System is NotOperating Properly
The main function of the tire pressuremonitoring system is to warn you whenyour tires need air. It can also warn you inthe event the system is no longer capableof functioning as intended. See thefollowing chart for information concerningyour tire pressure monitoring system:

4.Turn the hazard flashers on then offthree times. You must accomplish thiswithin 10 seconds. If you successfullyenter the reset mode, the horn soundsonce, the system indicator flashes anda message shows in the informationdisplay. If this does not occur, pleasetry again starting at step 2. If afterrepeated attempts to enter the resetmode, the horn does not sound, thesystem indicator does not flash and nomessage shows in the informationdisplay, seek service from yourauthorized dealer.
5.Train the tire pressure monitoringsystem sensors in the tires using thefollowing system reset sequencestarting with the left front tire in thefollowing order: Left front - driver sidefront tire, Right front - passenger sidefront tire, Right outer rear -passengerside rear outer tire, Right inner rear -passenger side rear inner tire, Left outerrear - driver side rear outer tire, Leftinner rear - driver side rear inner tire.
6.Remove the valve cap from the valvestem on the left front tire. Decrease theair pressure until the horn sounds.
Note:The single horn chirp confirms thatthe sensor identification code has beenlearned by the module for this position. If adouble horn is heard, the reset procedurewas unsuccessful, and you must repeat it.
7.Remove the valve cap from the valvestem on the right front tire. Decreasethe air pressure until the horn sounds.
8.Remove the valve cap from the valvestem on the right outer rear tire.Decrease the air pressure until the hornsounds.
9.Remove the valve cap from the valvestem on the right inner rear tire.Decrease the air pressure until the hornsounds.
10.Remove the valve cap from the valvestem on the left outer rear tire.Decrease the air pressure until thehorn sounds.
11.Remove the valve cap from the valvestem on the left inner rear tire.Decrease the air pressure until thehorn sounds. Training is completeafter the horn sounds for the last tiretrained, the system indicator stopsflashing, and a message is shown inthe information display.
12.Turn the ignition off. If two short hornbeeps are heard, the reset procedurewas unsuccessful and you mustrepeat it. If after repeating theprocedure and two short beeps areheard when the ignition is turned tooff, seek assistance from yourauthorized dealer.
13.Set all six tires to the recommendedair pressure as indicated on theSafety Compliance CertificationLabel, affixed to either the door hingepillar, door-latch post, or the dooredge that meets the door-latch post,next to the driver seating position orTire Label located on the B-Pillar orthe edge of the driver door.
CHANGING A ROAD WHEEL
WARNING: To determine therequired pressure(s) for your vehicle, seethe Safety Compliance CertificationLabel (on the door hinge pillar,door-latch post or the door edge thatmeets the door-latch post, next to thedriver seat) or the Tire Label on theB-Pillar or the edge of the driver door.
Note:You should only use tire sealants inroadside emergencies as they may causedamage to the tire pressure monitoringsystem sensor.

Note:The tire pressure monitoring systemindicator light illuminates when the sparetire is in use. To restore the full function ofthe monitoring system, all road wheelsequipped with tire pressure monitoringsensors must be mounted on the vehicle.
Note:Do not use wheels or wheel nutsdifferent than the original equipment, as thismay damage the wheel or mounting system.
If you get a flat tire when driving, do notapply the brake heavily. Instead, graduallydecrease your speed. Hold the steeringwheel firmly and slowly move to a safeplace on the side of the road.
Have a flat serviced by an authorizeddealer to prevent damage to the tirepressure monitoring system sensors. SeeTire Pressure Monitoring System (page213). Replace the spare tire with a road tireas soon as possible. During repairing orreplacing of the flat tire, have theauthorized dealer inspect the tire pressuremonitoring system sensor for damage.
Dissimilar Spare Wheel and TireAssembly Information
WARNING: Failure to follow theseguidelines could result in an increasedrisk of loss of vehicle control, injury ordeath.
If you have a dissimilar spare wheel andtire, then it is intended for temporary useonly. This means that if you need to use it,you should replace it as soon as possiblewith a road wheel and tire assembly thatis the same size and type as the road tiresand wheels that were originally providedby Ford. If the dissimilar spare tire or wheelis damaged, it should be replaced ratherthan repaired.
A dissimilar spare wheel and tire assemblyis defined as a spare wheel and tireassembly that is different in brand, size orappearance from the road tires and wheelsand can be one of three types:
1.T-type mini-spare: This spare tirebegins with the letter T for tire size andmay have Temporary Use Only molded inthe sidewall.
2.Full-size dissimilar spare with labelon wheel: This spare tire has a label onthe wheel that states: THIS WHEEL ANDTIRE ASSEMBLY FOR TEMPORARY USEONLY.
When driving with one of the dissimilarspare tires listed above:
•Do not exceed 50 mph (80 km/h).
•Do not load the vehicle beyondmaximum vehicle load rating listed onthe Safety Compliance Label.
•Do not tow a trailer.
•Do not use snow chains on the end ofthe vehicle with the dissimilar sparetire.
•Do not use more than one dissimilarspare tire at a time.
•Do not use commercial car washingequipment.
•Do not try to repair the dissimilar sparetire.
Using a dissimilar spare wheel and tireassembly can compromise theeffectiveness of the following:
•Handling, stability and brakingperformance.
•Comfort and noise.
•Ground clearance and parking at curbs.
•Winter weather driving capability.
•Wet weather driving capability.
•All-wheel driving capability.
