⬛Seat belt regulations
If seat belt regulations exist in the country where you reside, please contact
your Toyota dealer for seat belt replacement or installation.
WARNING
Observe the following precautions to reduce the risk of injury in the event of sud-
den braking, sudden swerving or an accident.
Failure to do so may cause death or serious injury.
⬛Wearing a seat belt
⚫Ensure that all passengers wear a seat belt.
⚫Always wear a seat belt properly.
⚫Do not load items that block the
seat belt path
⚫Do not drive with the seat belt too close to the steering wheel or meter
⚫Do not slacken the seat belt with clothespins or clips
⚫Each seat belt should be used by one person only. Do not use a seat belt for
more than one person at once, including children.
⚫Toyota recommends that children be se ated in the rear seats and always use
a seat belt and/or an appropriate child restraint system.
⚫To achieve a proper seating position, do not recline the seat more than nec-
essary. The seat belt is most effect ive when the occupants are sitting up
straight and well back in the seats.
⚫Do not wear the shoulder belt under your arm.
⚫Always wear your seat belt low and snug across your hips.
⬛Child seat belt usage
The seat belts of your vehicle were pr incipally designed for persons of adult
size.
⚫Use a child restraint system appropriat e for the child, until the child becomes
large enough to properly wear the vehicle’s seat belt. ( ➞P. 4 9 )
⚫When the child becomes large enough to properly wear the vehicle’s seat
belt, follow the instructions regarding seat belt usage. ( ➞P. 3 2 )

⬛SRS airbag precautions
Observe the following precautions regarding the SRS airbags.
Failure to do so may cause death or serious injury.
⚫The driver and all passengers in the vehicle must wear their seat belts prop-
erly.
The SRS airbags are supplemental devices to be used with the seat belts.
⚫The SRS driver airbag deploys with co nsiderable force, and can cause death
or serious injury especially if the driver is very close to the airbag.
Since the risk zone for the driver’s airbag is the first 50 - 75 mm (2 - 3 in.) of
inflation, placing yourself 250 mm (10 in .) from your driver airbag provides
you with a clear margin of safety. This distance is measured from the center
of the steering wheel to your breastbo ne. If you sit less than 250 mm (10 in.)
away now, you can change your driving position in several ways:
⦁ Move your seat to the rear as far as you can while still reaching the pedals
comfortably.
⦁ Slightly recline the back of the seat . Although vehicle designs vary, many
drivers can achieve the 250 mm (10 in.) distance, even with the driver seat
all the way forward, simply by reclin ing the back of the seat somewhat. If
reclining the back of your seat makes it hard to see the road, raise yourself
by using a firm, non-slippery cushion, or raise the seat if your vehicle has
that feature.
⦁ If your steering wheel is adjustable, ti lt it downward. This points the airbag
toward your chest instead of your head and neck.
The seat should be adjusted as recommended above, while still maintaining
control of the foot pedals, steering wh eel, and your view of the instrument
panel controls.
⚫The SRS front passenger airbag also de ploys with considerable force, and
can cause death or serious injury especially if the front passenger is very
close to the airbag. The front passenger seat should be as far from the air-
bag as possible with the seatback ad justed, so the front passenger sits
upright.
⚫A deploying airbag can cause even the de ath or serious injury of an infant or
child who is improperly seated and/or restrained. An infant or child who is
too small to use a seat belt should be properly secured using a child
restraint system. Toyota strongly re commends that all infants and children
be placed in the rear seats of the ve hicle and properly restrained. The rear
seats are safer for infants and child ren than the front passenger seat.

WARNING
⚫Do not sit on the edge of the seat
or lean against the dashboard.
⚫Do not allow a child to stand in
front of the SRS front passenger
airbag unit or sit on the knees of a
front passenger.
⚫Do not allow the front seat occu-
pants to hold items on their knees.
⚫Vehicles with SRS side and curtain
shield airbags: Do not lean against
the door, the roof side rail or the
front, side and rear pillars
⚫Vehicles with SRS side and curtain
shield airbags: Do not allow anyone
to kneel on the passenger seat
toward the door or put their head
or hands outside the vehicle
⚫Do not attach anything to or lean
anything against areas such as the
dashboard or steering wheel pad.
These items can become projectiles
when the SRS driver and front pas-
senger airbags deploy.

⬛When the Emergency Call system is replaced with a new one
The Emergency Call system should be registered. Contact your Toyota dealer.
⬛For your safety
⚫Please drive safely.
The function of this system is to assist you in making the Emergency Call in
case of accidents such as traffic accidents or sudden medical emergencies,
and it does not protect the driver or passengers in any way. Please drive
safely and fasten your seatbelts at all times for your safety.
⚫In case of an emergency, make lives the top priority.
⚫If you smell anything burning or other unusual smells, leave the vehicle and
evacuate to a safe area immediately.
⚫Since the system detects shocks, th e automatic reporting may not always
occur synchronized with the operation of the airbag system. (If the vehicle is
struck from behind, etc.)
⚫For safety, do not make the Emergency Call while driving.
Making calls during driving may cause mishandling of the steering wheel,
which may lead to unexpected accidents.
Stop the vehicle and confirm the safety of your surroundings before making
the Emergency Call.
⚫When changing fuses, please use the sp ecified fuses. Using other fuses may
cause ignition or smoke in the circuit and lead to a fire.
⚫Using the system while there is smoke or an unusual smell may cause a fire.
Stop using the system immediately and consult your Toyota dealer.
NOTICE
⬛To prevent damage
Do not pour any liquids onto the “SOS” bu tton panel, etc. and do not impact it.
⬛If the “SOS” button panel, speaker or microphone malfunctions during an
Emergency Call or manual maintenance check
It may not be possible to make Emergency Calls, confirm the system status, or
communicate with the eCall control center operator. If any of the above equip-
ment is damaged, please consult your Toyota dealer.

⬛Operating conditions (electric type)
When the engine switch is “ACC” or “ON”
⬛Using “Automatic mode” in cold weather (vehicles with key-free system)
When using “Automatic mode” in cold weather, the mirrors may not be folded
or extended automatically if the outsid e rear view mirrors get frozen. If this
happens, remove ice or snow covering the outside rear view mirrors, and acti-
vate them by using “Manual mode” or move the mirrors with your hands.
⬛Disabling folding (or extension) in the automatic mode (vehicles with key-
free system)
Set the switch to the extend (or fold) position.
⬛Customization (vehicles with key-free system)
You can customize the operation contents of the automatic mode. (List of cus-
tomizable features: ➞ P. 430)
WARNING
⬛Important points while driving
Be sure to observe the following pr ecautions while driving the vehicle.
Failure to do so may result in mishandling of the vehicle and cause an accident,
resulting in death or serious injury.
⚫Do not adjust the mirrors while driving
⚫Do not drive with the outside rear view mirrors folded
⚫Both the driver and passenger side mirrors must be extended and properly
adjusted before driving
⬛When the mirror is moving (electric type)
Do not touch it with your hands.
Doing so could get your hands caught and cause injury or the mirror to mal-
function.
⬛Adjusting the mirrors (manual type)
Do not adjust them with dirty hands. If the mirror surface gets dirty, it will
cause diffused reflection of the lights fr om behind during nighttime etc., which
is extremely dangerous as it could compromise the visibility.

1714-1. Driving the vehicle
RAIZE_OM_General_BZ358E
WARNING
Driving
4
⚫Avoid sudden engine braking (shift lever operation). The tires may lock and
slip, causing an accident.
⚫Do not adjust the positions of the steering wheel, the seat, or the inside or
outside rear view mirrors while driving.
Doing so could cause the driver to mishandle the vehicle.
⚫Always check that all occupants’ arms , heads or other parts of their bodies
are not outside the vehicle.
⚫Do not drive off-road.
If you must drive off-road, drive carefully.
⚫Do not drive underwater such as crossing a river.
It may cause a serious vehicle failure such as short-circuiting of electrical
components or damage to the engine.
⚫Do not drive with luggage on or near the seats.
If the vehicle brakes or turns sudden ly, the luggage may be thrown out and
hit occupants, the luggage may be dama ged, or the driver may be distracted
by the luggage, which may lead to an unforeseen accident.
⚫Drive carefully where there are large steps or where there are wheel chocks.
The bumper may be damaged.
⚫Do not release the clutch pedal all the way at once. Doing so could move the
vehicle forward and may lead to an unforeseen accident. (➞ P. 194)
⬛When driving on slippery road surfaces
⚫Sudden braking, acceleration or steering may cause tire slippage and reduce
your ability to control the vehicle.
⚫Sudden acceleration, engine braking due to shifting, or changes in engine
speed could cause the vehicle to skid.
⚫After driving through a puddle, lightly depress the brake pedal to make sure
that the brakes are functioning prop erly. Wet brake pads may prevent the
brakes from functioning properly. If th e brakes on only one side are wet and
not functioning properly, steering control may be affected.
⬛When operating the shift lever
⚫For the continuously variable transmissi on vehicles, never let the vehicle roll
backward while the shift lever is in a driv ing position, or roll forward while the
shift lever is in R.
Doing so may cause the engine to sta ll or lead to poor brake and steering
performance, resulting in an acci dent or damage to the vehicle.
