The tire pressure warning system may be disabled in the following conditions:
(When the condition becomes normal, the system will work properly.)
⚫If electronic devices or facilities us ing similar radio wave frequencies are
nearby
⚫If a radio set at a similar frequency is in use in the vehicle
⚫If a window tint that affects the radio wave signals is installed
⚫If there is a lot of snow or ice on th e vehicle, particularly around the wheels
or wheel housings
⚫If non-genuine Toyota wheels are used (Even if you use Toyota wheels, the
tire pressure warning system may no t work properly with some types of
tires.)
⚫If tire chains are used
⚫If the spare tire is in a location subject to poor radio wave signal reception.
⚫If a large metallic object which can in terfere with signal reception is put in
the luggage room.
⬛If the tire pressure warning light freq uently comes on after blinking for 1
minute (vehicles with a tire pressure warning system)
If the tire pressure warning light freque ntly comes on after blinking for 1 min-
ute when the engine switch is turned on, have it checked by your Toyota
dealer.

WARNING
⬛When the electric power steering system warning light comes on
When the light comes on yellow, the assist to the power steering is restricted.
When the light comes on red, the assist to the power steering is lost and han-
dling operations of the steering wheel become extremely heavy. When steer-
ing wheel operations are heavier than us ual, grip the steering wheel firmly and
operate it using more force than usual.
⬛If the tire pressure warning light comes on (vehicles with a tire pressure
warning system)
Be sure to observe the following precaut ions. Failure to do so could cause a
loss of vehicle control and result in death or serious injury.
⚫Stop your vehicle in a safe place as soon as possible. Adjust the tire inflation
pressure immediately.
⚫If the tire pressure warning light come s on even after tire inflation pressure
adjustment, it is probable that you have a flat tire. Check the tires. If a tire is
flat, change it with the spare tire and ha ve the flat tire repaired by the near-
est Toyota dealer.
⚫Avoid abrupt maneuvering and braking. If the vehicle tires deteriorate, you
could lose control of the steering wheel or the brakes.
⬛If a blowout or sudden air leakage sh ould occur (vehicles with a tire
pressure warning system)
The tire pressure warning system may not activate immediately.
NOTICE
⬛To ensure the tire pressure warning system✽ operates properly
Do not install tires with different specif ications or makers, as the tire pressure
warning system may not operate properly.

(See P. 327 for more information about tires)
WARNING
⬛If you have a flat tire
Do not drive with a flat tire.
Even over short distances, the tires an d wheels can be irreparably damaged or
cause an accident.
Before lifting the vehicle with a jack
⚫Move the vehicle to a hard, flat, safe location
⚫Apply the parking brake
⚫For continuously variable transmission vehicles, set the shift lever to P
⚫For vehicles with manual transmission, set the shift lever to R
⚫Stop the engine
⚫Turn the emergency flashers on

WARNING
⬛Replacing a flat tire
⚫Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in serious injury:
⦁Do not touch the disc wheels or the area around the brakes immediately
after the vehicle has been driven.
After the vehicle has been driven the disc wheels and the area around the
brakes will be extremely hot. Touching these areas with hands, feet or

If the vehicle has become stuck
Carry out the following procedures if the tires spin or the vehicle has
become stuck in mud, sand or snow:
a Make sure that the parking brake is applied. For continuously variable
transmission vehicles, set the shift lever to P, and for the manual trans-
mission vehicles, set it to N, then stop the engine
b Remove the dirt and snow from around the wheels
c Place wood, stones or some other material under the rear wheels to
help provide traction
d Restart the engine
e For continuously variable transmission vehicles, set the shift lever to D
or R. For the manual transmission ve hicles, make sure to set the gear
to 1 or R. Then, step on the accelerator pedal while exercising caution
If VSC/TRC is making it difficult to extricate the vehicle, turn off TRC or VSC/TRC.
( ➞ P. 233)
WARNING
⬛When attempting to free a stuck vehicle
If you choose to push the vehicle back an d forth to free it, make sure the sur-
rounding area is clear to avoid striking other vehicles, objects or people.
The vehicle may also lunge forward or lu nge back suddenly as it becomes free.
Use extreme caution.
⬛When shifting the shift lever
Be careful not to shift the shift lever with the accelerator pedal depressed.
This may lead to unexpected rapid acceleration of the vehicle that may cause
an accident resulting in death or serious injury.
⬛To avoid damage to the transmission and other components
⚫Avoid spinning the wheels and depre ssing the accelerator pedal more than
necessary to race the engine. The tr ansmission or other parts may be dam-
aged, which may lead to an accident.
⚫Do not spin the wheels at high speed. The tires may rupture or overheat,
which may lead to an accident.
