⬛Conditions under which it may deploy, other than a collision
The SRS front airbags and SRS side and curtain shield airbags
✽ may also
deploy if a serious impact occurs to the underside of your vehicle, as in the fol-
lowing cases.
⚫Hitting a curb, edge of pavement or
hard surface
⚫Falling into or jumping over a deep
hole
⚫Landing hard after jumping or fall-
ing from a road
⬛Types of collisions that may not deploy the SRS airbags
Even if a collision occurs, the SRS airbags do not inflate if the engine switch is
“OFF” or “ACC”.
⬛Types of collisions that may not depl oy the SRS airbags (SRS front airbags)
The SRS front airbags do not generally infl ate if the vehicle is involved in a side
or rear collision, if it rolls over, or if it is involved in a low-speed frontal collision.
But, whenever such an impact causes sufficient forward deceleration of the
vehicle, deployment of the SRS front airbags may occur.
⚫Collision from the side
⚫Collision from the rear
⚫Vehicle rollover

⬛Types of collisions that may not deploy the SRS airbags (SRS side and

✽
The SRS side and curtain shield airbags may not deploy if the vehicle receives
impact from an angle or to the side of th e vehicle that is not part of the cabin.
⚫Impact to side of vehicle not part of
the cabin
⚫Angular impact
The SRS side and curtain shield airbags do not generally inflate if the vehicle is
involved in a rear collision, if it rolls over , or if it is involved in a low-speed fron-
tal or side collision.
⚫Collision from the rear
⚫Vehicle rollover
⬛When to contact your Toyota dealer
In the following cases, the vehicle will re quire inspection and/or repair. Contact
your Toyota dealer as soon as possible.
⚫Any of the SRS airbags have been inflated
⚫The vehicle was involved in an acci-
dent that involved collision to the
front area or left the front area
damaged or deformed, but was not
severe enough to cause the SRS
front airbags to inflate

When using a child restraint system
⬛When installing a child restraint system to a front passenger seat
For the safety of a child, install a ch ild restraint system to a rear seat.
When installing a child restraint syst em to a front passenger seat is una-
voidable, adjust the seat as follows and install the child restraint system.
⚫Tilt the seatback forward, place it
back in its 1st fixed position (
a), and
adjust it to its 5th fixed position (
b)
⚫If the child restraint system cannot
be properly installed because the
head restraint is in the way, fix the
head restraint at its highest posi-
tion or remove it ( ➞P. 152)
⚫Push the seat all the way back
WARNING
⬛When using a child restraint system
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.
⚫Never use a rear-facing child restraint system on the front passenger seat.
The force of the rapid inflation of the front passenger airbag can cause
death or serious injury to childr en in the event of an accident.
There is a label(s) on the passenger side sun visor, indicating it is forbidden
to attach a rear-facing child restraint system to the front passenger seat.
Details of the label(s) are shown in the illustration below.

WARNING
⚫Only put a forward-facing child
restraint system on the front seat
when unavoidable. When installing
a forward-facing child restraint on
the front passenger seat, move the
seat as far back as possible.
Failing to do so may result in death
or serious injury if the airbags
deploy (inflate).
⚫Do not allow the child to lean his/
her head or any part of his/her
body against the door or the area
of the seat, front or rear pillars, or
roof side rails from which the SRS
side airbags or SRS curtain shield
airbags deploy even if the child is
seated in the child restraint system.
It is dangerous if the SRS side air-
bags and curtain shield airbags
inflate, and the impact could cause
death or serious injury to the child.
⚫When a junior seat (booster seat) is installed, always ensure that the shoul-
der belt is positioned across the cent er of the child’s shoulder. The belt
should be kept away from the child’s neck , but not so that it could fall off the
child’s shoulder.
⚫Use child restraint system suitable to th e age and size of the child and install
it to the rear seat.
⚫If the driver’s seat interferes with
the child restraint system and pre-
vents it from being attached cor-
rectly, attach the child restraint
system to the right-hand rear seat
(left-hand drive vehicles) or the left-
hand rear seat (right-hand drive
vehicles).
⚫Adjust the front passenger seat so
that it does not interfere with the
child restraint system.

Emergency Notification Services
⬛Automatic Emergency Calls
If any airbag deploys, the system is designed to automatically call the eCall
control center.* The answering operat or receives the vehicle’s location,
the time of the incident and the vehicle VIN, and attempts to speak with
the vehicle occupants to assess the situation. If the occupants are unable
to communicate, the operator automati cally treats the call as an emer-
gency and contacts the nearest emerge ncy services provider (999 system
etc.) to describe the situation and request that assistance be sent to the
location.
*In some cases, the call cannot be made. ( ➞P. 7 0 )
⬛Manual Emergency Calls
In the event of an emergency, press the “SOS” button to call the eCall con-
trol center.* The answering operator will determine your vehicle’s loca-
tion, assess the situation, and dispatch the necessa ry assistance required.
If you accidentally press the “SOS” button, tell the operator that you are not experi-
encing an emergency.
*In some cases, the call cannot be made. ( ➞P. 7 0 )
Indicator lights
When the engine switch is turned to “ON”, the red indicator light will illumi-
nate for 10 seconds and then the gree n indicator light will illuminate, indi-
cating that the system is enabled. The indicator lights indicate the following:
⚫If the green indicator light illuminat es and stays on, the system is ena-
bled.
⚫If the green indicator light flashe s twice per second, an automatic or
manual Emergency Call is being made.
⚫If no indicator lights illuminate, the system is not enabled.
⚫If the red indicator light illuminates at any time other than immediately
after the engine switch is turned to “ON”, the system may be malfunc-
tioning or the backup battery may be depleted.
⚫If the red indicator light blinks for approximately 30 seconds during an
Emergency Call, the call has been disconnected or the cellular network
signal is weak.
The service life of the backup battery does not exceed 3 years.

⬛When the Emergency Call system is replaced with a new one
The Emergency Call system should be registered. Contact your Toyota dealer.
⬛For your safety
⚫Please drive safely.
The function of this system is to assist you in making the Emergency Call in
case of accidents such as traffic accidents or sudden medical emergencies,
and it does not protect the driver or passengers in any way. Please drive
safely and fasten your seatbelts at all times for your safety.
⚫In case of an emergency, make lives the top priority.
⚫If you smell anything burning or other unusual smells, leave the vehicle and
evacuate to a safe area immediately.
⚫Since the system detects shocks, th e automatic reporting may not always
occur synchronized with the operation of the airbag system. (If the vehicle is
struck from behind, etc.)
⚫For safety, do not make the Emergency Call while driving.
Making calls during driving may cause mishandling of the steering wheel,
which may lead to unexpected accidents.
Stop the vehicle and confirm the safety of your surroundings before making
the Emergency Call.
⚫When changing fuses, please use the sp ecified fuses. Using other fuses may
cause ignition or smoke in the circuit and lead to a fire.
⚫Using the system while there is smoke or an unusual smell may cause a fire.
Stop using the system immediately and consult your Toyota dealer.
NOTICE
⬛To prevent damage
Do not pour any liquids onto the “SOS” bu tton panel, etc. and do not impact it.
⬛If the “SOS” button panel, speaker or microphone malfunctions during an
Emergency Call or manual maintenance check
It may not be possible to make Emergency Calls, confirm the system status, or
communicate with the eCall control center operator. If any of the above equip-
ment is damaged, please consult your Toyota dealer.
