WARNING
■Water in the vehicle
●Do not splash or spill liquid in the
vehicle. Doing so may cause electrical com-ponents, etc. to malfunction or
catch fire.
●Do not get any of the SRS compo-
nents or wiring in the vehicle interior wet. ( P. 3 4 ) An electrical malfunction may
cause the airbags to deploy or not function properly, resulting in death or serious injury.
■Cleaning the interior (especially instrument panel)
Do not use a polish wax or polish cleaner. The instrument panel may reflect off the windshield, obstructing
the driver’s view and leading to an accident, resulting in death or serious injury.
NOTICE
■Cleaning detergents
●Do not use the following types of detergent, as they may discolor the vehicle interior or cause streaks or
damage to painted surfaces:
• Non-seat portions: Organic sub- stances such as benzene or gaso-
line, alkaline or acidic solutions, dye, and bleach
• Seats: Alkaline or acidic solutions,
such as thinner, benzene, and alco- hol
●Do not use a polish wax or polish cleaner. The instrument panel’s or other interior part’s painted surface
may be damaged.
■Preventing damage to leather surfaces
Observe the following precautions to
avoid damage to and deterioration of leather surfaces:
●Remove any dust or dirt from
leather surfaces immediately.
●Do not expose the vehicle to direct
sunlight for extended periods of time. Park the vehicle in the shade, especially during summer.
●Do not place items made of vinyl, plastic, or containing wax on the
upholstery, as they may stick to the leather surface if the vehicle interior heats up significantly.
■Water on the floor
Do not wash the vehicle floor with
water. Vehicle systems such as the audio system may be damaged if water
comes into contact with electrical components such as the audio sys-tem above or under the floor of the
vehicle. Water may also cause the body to rust.
■When cleaning the inside of the windshield (vehicles with Toyota Safety Sense)
Do not allow glass cleaner to contact the lens. Also, do not touch the lens. ( P.153)
●Be careful not to scratch or damage the heater wires or antenna.
■Cleaning the inside of the rear window
●Do not use glass cleaner to clean the rear window, as this may cause damage to the rear window defog-
ger heater wires or antenna. Use a cloth dampened with lukewarm water to gently wipe the window
clean. Wipe the window in strokes running parallel to the heater wires or antenna.

be kept.
■Does your vehicle need repairs?
Be on the alert for changes in perfor- mance and sounds, and visual tip-offs
that indicate service is needed. Some important clues are:
●Engine misses (misfire), stumbling or pinging
●Appreciable loss of power
●Strange engine noises
●A fluid leak under the vehicle (How-ever, water dripping from the air con-
ditioning system after use is normal.)
●Change in exhaust sound (This may
indicate a dangerous carbon monox- ide leak. Drive with the windows open and have the exhaust system checked
immediately.)
●Flat-looking tires, excessive tire
squeal when cornering, uneven tire wear
●Vehicle pulls to one side when driven straight on a level road
●Strange noises related to suspension movement
●Loss of brake effectiveness, spongy feeling brake pedal or clutch pedal (vehicles with a manual transmission),
pedal almost touches the floor, vehicle pulls to one side when braking
●Engine coolant temperature continu-ally higher than normal ( P.81, 84)
If you notice any of these clues, take
your vehicle to any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or
any reliable repairer as soon as possi-
ble. Your vehicle may need adjustment
or repair.

The unit can be changed.
■How to change the unit
1 Park the vehicle in a safe place
and turn the engine switch off.
Changing the unit cannot be performed while the vehicle is moving.
2 Turn the engine switch to ON.
3 Press / of the meter con-
trol switch to select .
4 Press / to select “Vehicle
Settings” and then press and
hold .
5 Press / to select “TPWS
setting” and then press .
6 Press / to select “Setting
Unit”.
7 Press / to select the
desired unit and then press .
■Routine tire inflation pressure checks
The tire pressure warning system does not replace routine tire inflation pressure checks. Make sure to check tire inflation
pressure as part of your routine of daily
vehicle checks.
■Tire inflation pressure
●It may take a few minutes to display
the tire inflation pressure after the engine switch is turned to ON. It may also take a few minutes to display the
tire inflation pressure after inflation pressure has been adjusted.
●Tire inflation pressure changes with temperature. The displayed values may also be different from the values
measured using a tire pressure gauge.
■Situations in which the tire pres-sure warning system may not oper-
ate properly
●In the following cases, the tire pres-
sure warning system may not operate properly.• If non-genuine Toyota wheels are
used. • A tire has been replaced with a tire that is not an OE (Original Equipment)
tire. • A tire has been replaced with a tire that is not of the specified size.
• Tire chains, etc. are equipped. • An auxiliary-supported run-flat tire is equipped.
• If a window tint that affects the radio wave signals is installed.• If there is a lot of snow or ice on the
vehicle, particularly around the wheels or wheel housings.• If the tire inflation pressure is
extremely higher than the specified level.• If tires not equipped with tire pressure
warning valves and transmitters are used.• If the ID code on the tire pressure
warning valves and transmitters is not registered in the tire pressure warning computer.
●Performance may be affected in the following situations.
• Near a TV tower, electric power plant, gas station, radio station, large dis-play, airport or other facility that gen-

5 Stop the vehicle in a safe place
by the road.
 Remove the seat belt first.
 If the door can be opened, open
the door and exit the vehicle.
 If the door cannot be opened,
open the window using the
power window switch and exit
the vehicle through the window.
 If the window cannot be opened
using the power window switch,
remain calm, wait until the water
level inside the vehicle rises to
the point that the water pressure
inside of the vehicle equals the
water pressure outside of the
vehicle, and then open the door
and exit the vehicle.
WARNING
■If the engine has to be turned off while driving
Power assist for the brakes and steer-
ing wheel will be lost, making the brake pedal harder to depress and the steering wheel heavier to turn.
Decelerate as much as possible before turning off the engine.
If the vehicle is trapped
in rising water
In the event the vehicle is sub-
merged in water, remain calm
and perform the following.
WARNING
■Using an emergency hammer* f o r
emergency escape
The front side windows and of this vehicle rear window can be shattered
with an emergency hammer* used for emergency escape. However, an
emergency hammer* cannot shatter
the windshield as it is laminated glass.*: Contact any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized
repairer, or any reliable repairer, or
aftermarket accessory manufac-
turer for further information about
an emergency hammer.

WARNING
■Escaping the vehicle from the window
There are cases where escaping the vehicle from the window is not possi-ble due to seating position, passenger
body type, etc. When using an emergency hammer, consider your seat location and the
size of the window opening to ensure that the opening is accessible and large enough to escape.

7-2. Steps to take in an emergency
When trouble arises
■When the electronic key does not work properly
●Make sure that the smart entry & start system has not been deactivated in the customization setting. If it is off,
turn the function on. (Customizable features: P.359)
●Check if battery-saving mode is set. If it is set, cancel the function. ( P.108)
Use the mechanical key (P.99) in
order to perform the following oper-
ations:
1 Locks all the doors
2 Unlocks all the doors
■Key linked functions
1 Closes the windows (turn and hold)*
2Opens the windows (turn and hold)*
*: These settings must be customized at
any authorized Toyota retailer or
Toyota authorized repairer, or any reli-
able repairer.
If the electronic key
does not operate prop-
erly
If communication between the
electronic key and vehicle is
interrupted ( P.108) or the
electronic key cannot be used
because the battery is
depleted, the smart entry &
start system and wireless
remote control cannot be used.
In such cases, the doors can
be opened and the engine can
be started by following the pro-
cedure below.

■In case of a smart entry & start
system malfunction or other key- related problems
Take your vehicle with all the elec-
tronic keys provided with your vehicle to any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reli-
able repairer.
Locking and unlocking the
doors
WARNING
■When using the mechanical key and operating the power win-dows
Operate the power window after checking to make sure that there is no possibility of any passenger having
any of their body parts caught in the window.Also, do not allow children to operate
the mechanical key. It is possible for children and other passengers to get caught in the power window.

What to do if... (Troubleshooting)
Is the window lock switch
pressed?
The power window except for the one
at the driver’s seat cannot be operated
if the window lock switch is pressed.

The auto power off function will
be operated if the vehicle is left
in ACC or ON (the engine is not
running) for a period of time.

 The seat belt reminder light is
flashing
Are the driver and the passenger wear-
