■Information tag (manufacturer’s label)
Gross vehicle mass
The combined weight of the driver, passengers, luggage, towing hitch,
total curb mass and drawbar load should not exceed the gross ve hicle
mass by more than 100 kg (220.5 lb.). Exceeding this weight is danger-
ous.
Maximum permissible rear axle capacity
The weight borne by the rear axle should not exceed the maximum per-
missible rear axle capacity by 15% or more. Exceeding this weig ht is
dangerous.
The values for towing capacity were derived from testing conduc ted at
sea level. Take note that engine output and towing capacity wil l be
reduced at high altitudes.

WARNING
■ When the gross vehicle mass or maximum permissible axle capacity is
exceeded
Failing to observe this precaution may lead to an accident caus ing death or
serious injury.
● Add an additional 20.0 kPa (0.2 kgf/cm2 or bar, 3 psi) to the recommended
tire inflation pressure value. ( P. 774)
● Do not exceed the established speed limit for towing a trailer in built-up
areas or 100 km/h (62 mph), whichever is the lower.

WARNING
Follow all the instructions described in this section.
Failure to do so could cause an accident resulting in death or serious injury.
■ Trailer towing precautions
When towing, make sure that none of the weight limits are excee ded.
( P. 295)
■ To avoid accident or injury
● Vehicles with a compact spare tire:
Do not tow a trailer when the compact spare tire is installed o n your vehi-
cle.
● Vehicles with an emergency tire puncture repair kit:
Do not tow a trailer when the tire installed is repaired with t he emergency
tire puncture repair kit.
● Do not use the following systems when trailer towing.
• Cruise control*
• Dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range*
• LTA (Lane Tracing Assist)*
• PCS (Pre-Collision System)*
• BSM (Blind Spot Monitor)*
*: If equipped
■ Vehicle speed in towing
Observe the legal maximum speeds for trailer towing.
■ Before descending hills or long declines
Reduce speed and downshift. However, never downshift suddenly w hile
descending steep or long downhill grades.
■ Operation of the brake pedal
Do not hold the brake pedal depressed often or for long periods of time.
Doing so may result in the brake overheating or reduce braking effects.
NOTICE
■Do not directly splice trailer lights
Directly splicing trailer lights may damage your vehicle’s elec trical system
and cause a malfunction.

WARNING
■When starting the hybrid system
Always start the hybrid system while sitting in the driver’s se at. Do not
depress the accelerator pedal while starting the hybrid system under any
circumstances.
Doing so may cause an accident res ulting in death or serious injury.
■ Caution while driving
If a hybrid system failure occurs while the vehicle is moving, do not lock or
open the doors until the vehicle reaches a safe and complete st op. Activa-
tion of the steering lock in this circumstance may lead to an a ccident, result-
ing in death or serious injury.
■ Stopping the hybrid system in an emergency
● If you want to stop the hybrid system in an emergency while driving the
vehicle, press and hold the power switch for more than 2 second s, or
press it briefly 3 times or more in succession. ( P. 669)
However, do not touch the power switch while driving except in an emer-
gency. Turning the hybrid system off while driving will not cau se loss of
steering or braking control, however, power assist to the steer ing will be
lost. This will make it more difficult to steer smoothly, so yo u should pull
over and stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.
● If the power switch is operated while the vehicle is running, a warning
message will be shown on the multi-information display and a bu zzer
sounds.
● When restarting the hybrid system after an emergency shutdown while
driving, press the power switch. When restarting the hybrid sys tem after
stopping the vehicle, shift the shift lever to P and then press the power
switch.

■ Changing a driving mode when in EV drive mode
EV drive mode can be used in conjunction with “ECO” mode and “S PORT”
mode.
However, EV drive mode may be automatically canceled when used in con-
junction with “SPORT” mode.
■ Fuel economy
The hybrid system is designed to achieve the best possible fuel economy
during normal driving (using the gasoline engine and electric m otor [traction
motor]). Driving in EV drive mode more than necessary may lower fuel econ-
omy.
WARNING
■ Caution while driving
When driving in EV drive mode, pay special attention to the are a around the
vehicle. Because there is no engine noise, pedestrians, people riding bicy-
cles or other people and vehicles in the area may not be aware of the vehi-
cle starting off or approaching them, so take extra care while driving.
Therefore, take extra care while driving even if the acoustic v ehicle alerting
system is active.

WARNING
■When driving on slippery road surfaces
Do not accelerate or shift the shift lever suddenly.
Sudden changes in engine braking may cause the vehicle to spin or skid,
resulting in an accident.
■ To prevent an accident when releasing the shift lock
Before pressing the shift lock override button, make sure to se t the parking
brake and depress the brake pedal.
If the accelerator pedal is accidentally depressed instead of t he brake pedal
when the shift lock override button is pressed and the shift le ver is shifted
out of P, the vehicle may suddenly start, possibly leading to a n accident
resulting in death or serious injury.
NOTICE
■ Hybrid battery (traction battery) charge
If the shift lever is in N, the hybrid battery (traction batter y) will not be
charged. To help prevent the battery from discharging, avoid le aving the N
position selected for an extended period of time.

■ Downshift restriction warning buzzer (S mode)
To help ensure safety and driving performance, downshifting ope ration may
sometimes be restricted. In some circumstances, downshifting ma y not be
possible even when the shift lever is operated. (A buzzer will sound twice.)
■ S mode
● When the shift range is S4 or lower, holding the shift lever toward “+” sets
the shift range to S6.
● Automatically selects a higher shift range before the engine speed becomes
too high.
■ If the S indicator does not come on or the D indicator is displayed even
after shifting the shift lever to S
This may indicate a malfunction in the transmission system. Hav e the vehicle
inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorize d repairer, or
any reliable repairer immediatel y. (In this situation, the transmission will oper-
ate in the same manner as when the shift lever is in D.)
Remove the cover.
Remove the cover using flathead
screwdriver. To prevent damage to the
cover, tip the screwdriver with a rag.
Press the shift lock override button
while pressing the button on the shift
knob.
The shift lever can be shifted while the
button is pressed.

■Parking brake operation
● When the power switch is not in ON mode, the parking brake cannot be
released using the parking brake switch.
● When the power switch is not in the ON mode, automatic mode (automatic
brake setting and releasing) is not available.
■ Automatic release function
The parking brake is automatically released when slowly depress the acceler-
ator pedal.
The parking brake will be released automatically under the foll owing condi-
tions:
● The driver’s door is closed.
● The driver’s seatbelt is fastened.
● Shift the shift lever is in a forward or reverse position.
● The malfunction indicator lamp or brake system warning light is not illumi-
nated.
If the automatic release function does not operate, manually re lease the park-
ing brake.
■ If “EPB Frequently Operated, Wait a Minute.” is displayed on the
multi-information display
If the parking brake is operated repeatedly over a short period of time, the
system may restrict operation to prevent overheating. If this h appens, refrain
from operating the parking brake. Normal operation will return after about 1
minute.
■ If “EPB Activation Incomplete.” or “EPB Unavailable” is displayed on the
multi-information display
Operate the parking brake switch. If the message does not disap pear after
operating the switch several times, the system may be malfuncti oning. Have
the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyo ta authorized
repairer, or any reliabl e repairer immediately.
■ Parking brake operation sound
When the parking brake operates, a motor sound (whirring sound) may be
heard. This does not indicate a malfunction.
