After battery replacement, or in some casesafter charging the battery with an externalcharger, the battery management systemrequires eight hours of vehicle sleep time torelearn the battery state of charge. Duringthis time, your vehicle must remain fullylocked with the ignition switched off.
Note:Prior to relearning the battery state ofcharge, the battery management systemmay temporarily disable some electricalsystems.
Electrical Accessory Installation
To make sure the battery managementsystem works correctly, do not connect anelectrical device ground connection directlyto the battery negative post. This can causeinaccurate measurements of the batterycondition and potential incorrect systemoperation.
Note:If you add electrical accessories orcomponents to the vehicle, it may adverselyaffect battery performance and durability. This may also affect the performance ofother electrical systems in the vehicle.
Remove and Reinstall the Battery
Install a battery approved for use by ourspecifications. See Capacities andSpecifications (page 467).
To disconnect or remove the battery, do thefollowing:
1.Apply the parking brake and switch theignition off.
2.Switch all electrical equipment off, forexample lights and radio.
3.Wait a minimum of two minutes beforedisconnecting the battery.
Note:The engine management system hasa power hold function and remains poweredfor a period of time after you switch theignition off. This is to allow the system tostore diagnostic and adaptive tables.Disconnecting the battery without waitingcan cause damage not covered by thevehicle warranty.
4.Disconnect the negative battery cableterminal.
5.Disconnect the positive battery cableterminal.
6.Remove the battery securing clamp.
7.Remove the battery.
8.To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Note:Before reconnecting the battery, makesure the ignition remains switched off.
Note:Make sure to fully tighten the batterycables.
If you disconnect or replace the vehiclebattery, you must reset the followingfeatures:
•Window bounce-back. See Opening andClosing the Windows (page 134).
•Clock Settings.
•Pre-set radio stations.
Battery Disposal

Center height of lamp to ground.B
25 feet (7.6 m).C
Horizontal reference line.D
1.Park your vehicle directly in front of a wallor screen on a level surface, approximately 25 ft (7.6 m) away.
2.Measure the height from the center ofyour headlamp, indicated by a 3millimeter circle on the lens, to theground and mark an 8 ft (2.4 m)horizontal reference line on the verticalwall or screen at this height, a piece ofmasking tape works well.
3.Switch on the low beam headlamps toilluminate the wall or screen and openthe hood. Cover one of the headlampsso no light hits the wall.
4.On the wall or screen, observe a lightpattern with a distinct horizontal edgetoward the right. If this edge is not at thehorizontal reference line, adjust the beamso the edge is at the same height as thehorizontal reference line.

PREPARING YOUR VEHICLE FOR
STORAGE
If you plan on storing your vehicle for 30days or more, the following maintenancerecommendations ensures your vehicle staysin good operating condition.
Under various conditions, long-term storagemay lead to degraded engine performanceor failure unless you use specific precautionsto preserve your vehicle.
General
•Store all vehicles in a dry, ventilatedplace.
•If vehicles are stored outside, theyrequire regular maintenance to protectagainst rust and weather damage.
•Make sure all linkages, cables, levers andpins under your vehicle are covered withgrease to prevent rust.
•Move vehicles at least 25 ft (7.5 m) every15 days to lubricate working parts andprevent corrosion.
•Fill the fuel tank with high-quality fueluntil the first automatic shutoff of the fuelpump nozzle.
Engine
•Change the engine oil and filter prior tostorage because used engine oil containscontaminants which may cause enginedamage.
•Start the engine every 15 days for aminimum of 15 minutes. Run at fast idlewith the climate controls set to defrostuntil the engine reaches normaloperating temperature.
•With your foot on the brake, shift throughall the gears while the engine is running.
Body
•Wash your vehicle thoroughly to removedirt, grease, oil, tar or mud from exteriorsurfaces, rear wheel housings and theunderside of front fenders.
•Periodically wash your vehicle if it isstored in exposed locations.
•Touch-up exposed or primed metal toprevent rust.
•Cover chrome and stainless steel partswith a thick coat of auto wax to preventdiscoloration. Rewax as necessary whenyou wash your vehicle.
•Lubricate all hood, door and luggagecompartment hinges and latches with alight grade oil.
•Cover interior trim to prevent fading.
•Keep all rubber parts free from oil andsolvents.

WHAT IS THE TIRE PRESSURE
MONITORING SYSTEM
The tire pressure monitoringsystem measures the vehicle's tirepressures. A warning lampilluminates if one or more tires aresignificantly underinflated or if there is asystem malfunction.
TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING
SYSTEM OVERVIEW
WARNING: Under-inflation is themost common cause of tire failures andmay result in severe tire cracking, treadseparation or blowout, with unexpectedloss of vehicle control and increased riskof injury. Under-inflation increases sidewallflexing and rolling resistance, resulting in
heat buildup and internal damage to thetire. It also may result in unnecessary tirestress, irregular wear, loss of vehiclecontrol and accidents. A tire can lose upto half of its air pressure and not appearto be flat!
WARNING: To determine therequired pressure(s) for your vehicle, seethe Safety Compliance Certification Label(on the door hinge pillar, door-latch postor the door edge that meets the door-latchpost, next to the driver seat) or the TireLabel on the B-Pillar or the edge of thedriver door.
Each tire, including the spare (if provided),should be checked monthly when cold andinflated to the inflation pressurerecommended by the vehicle manufactureron the vehicle placard or tire inflationpressure label. (If your vehicle has tires of adifferent size than the size indicated on thevehicle placard or tire inflation pressure label, you should determine the proper tire inflationpressure for those tires).
As an added safety feature, your vehicle hasbeen equipped with a Tire PressureMonitoring System (TPMS) that illuminates alow tire pressure telltale when one or moreof your tires is significantly under-inflated.Accordingly, when the low tire pressuretelltale illuminates, you should stop andcheck your tires as soon as possible, andinflate them to the proper pressure. Drivingon a significantly under-inflated tire causesthe tire to overheat and can lead to tirefailure. Under-inflation also reduces fuelefficiency and tire tread life, and may affectthe vehicle’s handling and stopping ability.
Please note that the TPMS is not a substitutefor proper tire maintenance, and it is thedriver’s responsibility to maintain correct tirepressure, even if under-inflation has notreached the level to trigger illumination ofthe TPMS low tire pressure telltale.
