Why does the engine not always stopwhen I expect it to?
The system is designed to work in a way thatcomplements other vehicle systems, allowingthem to operate at optimum performance.
The system does not stop the engine if:
•The driver door is open.
•Your vehicle is at high altitude.
•The heated windshield is on.
•The engine is warming up.
•The outside temperature is too low ortoo high.
•The battery charge is low.
•The battery temperature is outside theoptimal operating range.
•The engine is required to run to maintaininterior climate and reduce fogging.
Why does the engine sometimesrestart when I do not expect it to?
The system is designed to work in a way thatcomplements other vehicle systems, allowingthem to operate at optimum performance.
The system restarts the engine if:
•You switch the heated windshield on.
•You switch maximum defrost on.
•Your vehicle starts to roll downhill inneutral.
•The engine is required to run to maintainadequate brake system assistance.
•The engine is required to run to maintaininterior climate and reduce fogging.
Can I permanently switch the systemoff?
No. The system plays an important role inreducing the fuel consumption and the CO2emissions.
Will the frequent engine starts causeparts to wear out?
Your vehicle has an enhanced battery andstarter motor that are designed for theincreased number of engine starts.

FUEL AND REFUELING –INFORMATION MESSAGES
Refueling System Warning
If the fuel tank filler valve does not fully close,a message could appear in the instrumentcluster display.
Message
Check Fuel Fill Inlet
If the message appears, do the following:
1.Stop your vehicle as soon as it is safe todo so and switch the engine off.
2.Shift into park (P) or neutral (N).
3.Apply the parking brake.
4.Fully open the fuel filler door.
5.Check the fuel tank filler valve for anydebris that may be restricting itsmovement.
6.Remove any debris from the fuel tankfiller valve.
7.Fully insert a fuel pump nozzle or the fuelfiller funnel provided with your vehicleinto the fuel filler pipe. See Locating theFuel Filler Funnel (page 204). This actionshould dislodge any debris that may bepreventing the fuel tank filler valve fromfully closing.
8.Remove the fuel pump nozzle or fuel fillerfunnel from the fuel filler pipe.
9.Fully close the fuel filler door.
Note:The message may not immediatelyreset. If the message continues to appearand a warning lamp illuminates, have yourvehicle checked as soon as possible.

WARNING: Always fully apply theparking brake and make sure you shift intopark (P). Failure to follow this instructioncould result in personal injury or death.
WARNING: Do not apply the brakepedal and accelerator pedalsimultaneously. Applying both pedalssimultaneously for more than a fewseconds will limit engine performance,which may result in difficulty maintainingspeed in traffic and could lead to seriousinjury.
WARNING: When your vehicle isstationary, keep the brake pedal fullypressed when shifting gears. Failure tofollow this instruction could result inpersonal injury, death or property damage.
Note:Do not use supplemental transmissionfluid additives, treatments, or cleaningagents. Failure to follow this instruction couldresult in vehicle damage not covered by thevehicle warranty.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
POSITIONS
PARK (P)
WARNING: Shift into park (P) onlywhen your vehicle is stationary.
In park (P) power is not transmitted to thedriven wheels.
Note:A tone sounds if you attempt to exityour vehicle without the vehicle in park (P).
Note:Your vehicle may not shift out of park(P) if the 12V battery has run out of charge.
Note:Your vehicle may not shift out of park(P) if a fuse is blown.
Note:Your vehicle may not shift out of park(P) unless the key or remote control is insideyour vehicle.
Note:The electronic parking brake couldapply when you power your vehicle on withthe selector in park (P).
Note:The electronic parking brake couldapply if you shift to park (P) without fullypressing the brake pedal.

SHIFTING USING THE PADDLESHIFTERS
The instrument cluster displays the currentgear. The current gear flashes when yourvehicle cannot shift into the requested gear.Your vehicle will not shift if the requestedgear raises or lowers the engine speedbeyond the limit.
Your vehicle could shift when you fully pressthe accelerator or brake pedal.

ENTERING TEMPORARY NEUTRALMODE
1.Bring your vehicle to a complete stop.
2.Press and hold the brake pedal.
3.Power your vehicle on.

WHAT IS AUTOMATIC RETURN TO
PARK (P)
Your vehicle shifts into park (P) if you attemptto exit your vehicle without the vehicle inpark (P).
HOW DOES AUTOMATIC RETURN TOPARK (P) WORK
Your vehicle shifts into park (P) when yourvehicle is stationary and any of the followingoccur:
•You switch the vehicle off.
•You open the driver door with yourseatbelt unlatched.
•You unlatch the driver seatbelt when thedriver door is open.
Note:Do not use automatic return to park(P) when your vehicle is moving, except inan emergency. See Stopping the EngineWhen Your Vehicle is Moving (page 195).
AUTOMATIC RETURN TO PARK (P)
LIMITATIONS
Automatic return to park (P) may not work ifthe door ajar sensor or seatbelt sensor aremalfunctioning.
See an authorized dealer if any of thefollowing occur:
•Seatbelt indicator illuminates or tonesounds with the seatbelt fastened.
•Door ajar indicator does not illuminatewith the driver door open.
•Door ajar indicator illuminates with thedriver door closed.
•Transmission not in park messageappears with the driver door closed, afteryou shift out of park (P).

MANUAL PARK RELEASE
WHAT IS MANUAL PARK RELEASE
Manual park release allows you to shift yourvehicle out of park (P) in the event of anelectrical malfunction or emergency.
MANUAL PARK RELEASEPRECAUTIONS
WARNING: When doing thisprocedure, you need to take thetransmission out of park (P) which meansyour vehicle can roll freely. To avoidunwanted vehicle movement, apply theparking brake prior to doing thisprocedure. Use wheel chocks ifappropriate.
WARNING: Do not drive your vehicleuntil you verify that the stoplamps areworking.
USING MANUAL PARK RELEASE
Activating the Manual Park ReleaseCable
1.Apply the parking brake. See ElectricParking Brake (page 225).
Note:If the vehicle's battery has run out ofcharge, use an external power source toapply the parking brake.
2.Remove the access cover. The cover islocated under the dash below thesteering wheel. Do not pull the tether.
3.Sit in the driver seat.
4.Power your vehicle on without your footon the brake pedal.

Note:Do not attempt this procedure whenthe engine is running. Failure to follow thisinstruction could result in vehicle damagenot covered by the vehicle warranty.
5.Press and hold the brake pedal.
6.Pull the tether towards you. Move tetherto the lower righthand corner of housinguntil bead engages in the pocket.
Note:Do not use excessive force. Failure tofollow this instruction could result in vehicledamage not covered by the vehiclewarranty.
Note:A message appears when your vehicleis out of park (P). If you do not receive amessage attempt the procedure again.
7.Release the parking brake. See ElectricParking Brake (page 225).

8.Switch your vehicle off.
9.Release the brake pedal.

10.Disconnect the negative battery cablefrom the battery as soon as it is safe todo so.
Note:If your vehicle detects wheel speedwhen the battery is connected, the electricparking brake could apply.
Returning Your Vehicle to Normal Mode
1.Connect the negative battery cable tothe battery as soon as it is safe to do so.
Note: If your vehicle detects wheel speedwhen the battery is connected, the electricparking brake could apply.
2.Apply the parking brake. See ElectricParking Brake (page 225).

8.Switch your vehicle off.
