CHILD SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Always make sure yourchild is secured properly in a device thatis appropriate for their height, age andweight. Child safety restraints must bebought separately from your vehicle.Failure to follow these instructions andguidelines may result in an increased riskof serious injury or death to your child.
WARNING: All children are shapeddifferently. The National Highway TrafficSafety Administration and other safetyorganizations, base their recommendationsfor child restraints on probable child height,age and weight thresholds, or on theminimum requirements of the law. Werecommend that you check with a NHTSACertified Child Passenger SafetyTechnician (CPST) to make sure that youproperly install the child restraint in yourvehicle and that you consult yourpediatrician to make sure you have a childrestraint appropriate for your child. Tolocate a child restraint fitting station and
CPST, contact NHTSA toll free at1-888-327-4236 or go towww.nhtsa.dot.gov. In Canada, contactTransport Canada toll free at1-800-333-0371 or go to www.tc.gc.ca tofind a Child Car Seat Clinic in your area.Failure to properly restrain children in childrestraints made especially for their height,age and weight, may result in an increasedrisk of serious injury or death to your child.
WARNING: On hot days, thetemperature inside the vehicle can risevery quickly. Exposure of people or animalsto these high temperatures for even a shorttime can cause death or serious heatrelated injuries, including brain damage.Small children are particularly at risk.
WARNING: Do not place a rearwardfacing child restraint in front of an activeairbag. Failure to follow this instructioncould result in personal injury or death.
WARNING: Properly secure children12 years old and under in a rear seatingposition whenever possible. If you areunable to properly secure all children in arear seating position, properly secure thelargest child on the front seat. If you mustuse a forward facing child restraint on thefront seat, move the seat as far back aspossible. Failure to follow theseinstructions could result in personal injuryor death.
WARNING: Always carefully followthe instructions and warnings provided bythe manufacturer of any child restraint todetermine if the restraint device isappropriate for your child's size, height,weight, or age. WARNING: Do not allow a passengerto hold a child on their lap when yourvehicle is moving. Failure to follow thisinstruction could result in personal injuryor death in the event of a sudden stop orcrash.
WARNING: Do not use pillows, booksor towels to boost your child's height.Failure to follow this instruction could resultin personal injury or death.
WARNING: Properly secure childrestraints or booster seats when they arenot in use. They could become projectilesin a sudden stop or crash. Failure to followthis instruction could result in personalinjury or death.
WARNING: Do not put the shouldersection of the seatbelt or allow the child toput the shoulder section of the seatbeltunder their arm or behind their back.Failure to follow this instruction couldreduce the effectiveness of the seatbeltand increase the risk of injury or death ina crash.
WARNING: Do not leave children orpets unattended in your vehicle. Failure tofollow this instruction could result inpersonal injury or death.
When installing a child restraint withseatbelts:
•Place the vehicle seat in the uprightposition before you install the childrestraint.
•Use the correct seatbelt buckle for thatseating position.
•Insert the belt tongue into the buckle.Make sure the tongue is securelyfastened in the buckle.
•Keep the buckle release button pointingup and away from the child restraint, withthe tongue between the child restraintand the release button, to preventaccidental unbuckling.
•Put the seatbelt in the automatic lockingmode.

CHILD RESTRAINTS RECOMMENDATION
Recommended Restraint TypeChild Size, Height, Weight, or Age
Use a child restraint (sometimes called an infant carrier,convertible seat, or toddler seat).Children weighing 40 lb (18 kg) or less (generally age four or younger).
Use a belt-positioning booster seat.
Children who have outgrown or no longer properly fit in a child restraint (generallychildren who are less than 57 in (1.45 m) tall, are greater than age four and lessthan age 12, and between 40 lb (18 kg) and 80 lb (36 kg) and upward to 100 lb(45 kg) if recommended by your child restraint manufacturer).
Use a vehicle seatbelt having the lap belt snug and lowacross the hips, shoulder belt centered across theshoulder and chest, and seat backrest upright.
Children who have outgrown or no longer properly fit in a belt-positioning boosterseat (generally children who are at least 57 in (1.45 m) tall or greater than 80 lb(36 kg) or 100 lb (45 kg) if recommended by child restraint manufacturer).
You are required by law to properly use childrestraints for infants and toddlers in theUnited States, Canada and Mexico.
Many states and provinces require that smallchildren use approved booster seats untilthey reach age eight, a height of 57 in(1.45 m) tall, or 80 lb (36 kg). Check your localand state or provincial laws for specificrequirements about the safety of children inyour vehicle.
When possible, properly restrain children 12years of age and under in a rear seatingposition of your vehicle. Accident statisticssuggest that children are safer when properlyrestrained in the rear seating positions thanin a front seating position.
When installing a rear facing child restraint,adjust the vehicle seats to avoid interferencebetween the child restraint and the vehicleseat in front of the child restraint.

3.Clip the tether strap to the anchor asshown.
4.Tighten the child restraint tether strapaccording to the manufacturer'sinstructions.
Note:If your child restraint system has atether strap and the manufacturerrecommends its use, we also recommendits use.
BOOSTER SEATS
Use a belt-positioning booster seat forchildren who have outgrown or no longerproperly fit in a child restraint and meet thefollowing criteria.
•Generally children who are less than57 in (1.45 m) tall.
•Are greater than age four (4) and lessthan age twelve (12).
•Are between 40 lb (18 kg) and 80 lb(36 kg) and upward to 100 lb (45 kg).
Many state and provincial laws require thatchildren use approved booster seats untilthey reach age eight, a height of 57 in(1.45 m) tall, or 80 lb (36 kg).
Booster seats should be used until you cananswer yes to all of these questions whenseated without a booster seat:
•Can the child sit all the way back againsttheir vehicle seat backrest with kneesbent comfortably at the edge of the seatcushion?
•Can the child sit without slouching?
•Does the lap belt rest low across thehips?
•Is the shoulder belt centered on theshoulder and chest?
•Can the child stay seated like this for thewhole trip?
Always use booster seats in conjunction withyour vehicle lap and shoulder belt.
Types of Booster Seats
•Backless booster seats
If your backless booster seat has aremovable shield, remove the shield.

The seatbelt system consists of:
•Lap and shoulder seatbelts.
•A shoulder seatbelt with automaticlocking mode, except driver seatbelt.
•Height adjusters at the front outermostseating positions.
•Seatbelt pretensioners at the frontoutermost and second row outermostseating positions.
•Belt tension sensor at the front outermostpassenger seating position.
A seatbelt warning light and tone.
Crash sensors and monitoringsystem with readiness indicator.
The seatbelt pretensioners are designed totighten the seatbelts when activated. Infrontal and near-frontal crashes, the seatbeltpretensioners may be activated alone or, ifthe crash is of sufficient severity, togetherwith the front airbags. The pretensioners mayalso activate when a Safety Canopy airbagdeploys.
FASTENING THE SEATBELTS
All seatbelts in your vehicle are a three-pointcombination lap and shoulder seatbelt.

1.Pull the seatbelt out steadily.
Note:It may lock if you pull it sharply or ifthe vehicle is on a slope.
2.Insert the tongue into the buckle.
3.Pull the seatbelt tight to remove anyslack.
Unfastening the Seatbelts
1.Press the red button on the buckle torelease the seatbelt.
2.Hold the seatbelt tongue and let it retractcompletely and smoothly to its stowedposition.
When in use, place the rear seatbelts in thebelt guides on the outermost seat backrests.
