Note:Event data recorder data is recordedby your vehicle only if a non-trivial crashsituation occurs; no data is recorded by theevent data recorder under normal drivingconditions and no personal data orinformation (for example name, gender,age, and crash location) is recorded.However, parties, such as law enforcement,could combine the event data recorder datawith the type of personally identifying dataroutinely acquired during a crashinvestigation.
To read data recorded by an event datarecorder, special equipment is required,and access to the vehicle or the event datarecorder is needed. In addition to thevehicle manufacturer, other parties, suchas law enforcement, that have such specialequipment, can read the information if theyhave access to the vehicle or the eventdata recorder.
SETTINGS DATA
Your vehicle has electronic control unitsthat have the ability to store data basedon your personalized settings. The data isstored locally in the vehicle or on devicesthat you connect to it, for example, a USBdrive or digital music player. You can deletesome of this data and also choose whetherto share it through the services to whichyou subscribe. See Settings (page 430).
Comfort and Convenience Data
Data recorded includes, for example:
•Seat and steering wheel position.
•Climate control settings.
•Radio presets.
Entertainment Data
Data recorded includes, for example:
•Music, videos or album art.
•Contacts and corresponding addressbook entries.
•Navigation destinations.
CONNECTED VEHICLE DATA
The modem has a SIM. Themodem was enabled when yourvehicle was built and periodicallysends messages to stay connected to thecell phone network, receive automaticsoftware updates and send vehicle-relatedinformation to us, for example diagnosticinformation. These messages couldinclude information that identifies yourvehicle, the SIM and the electronic serialnumber of the modem. Cell phone networkservice providers could have access toadditional information, for example cellphone network tower identification. Note:The modem continues to send thisinformation unless you disable the modemor stop the modem from sharing vehicledata by changing the modem settings. SeeConnected Vehicle (page 377).

For longer, trouble-free operation, keep thetop of the battery clean and dry and thebattery cables tightly fastened to thebattery terminals. If any corrosion ispresent on the battery or terminals, removethe cables from the terminals and cleanwith a wire brush. You can neutralize theacid with a solution of baking soda andwater.
We recommend that you disconnect thenegative battery cable terminal from thebattery if you plan to store your vehicle foran extended period.
Note:If you only disconnect the negativebattery cable terminal, make sure it isisolated or placed away from the batteryterminal to avoid unintended connection orarcing.
If you replace the battery make sure itmatches the electrical requirements ofyour vehicle.
If you disconnect or replace the batteryand your vehicle has an automatictransmission, it must relearn its adaptivestrategy. Because of this, the transmissionmay shift firmly when first driven. This isnormal operation while the transmissionfully updates its operation to optimumshift feel.
Battery Sensor Reset
When you install a new battery, reset thebattery sensor by doing the following:
1.Switch the ignition on, and leave theengine off.
Note:Complete Steps 2 and 3 within 10seconds.
2.Flash the high beam headlamps fivetimes, ending with the high beams off.
3.Press and release the brake pedal threetimes.
The battery warning lamp flashes threetimes to confirm that the reset issuccessful.
Battery Management System (If
Equipped)
The system monitors battery conditionsand takes actions to extend battery life. Ifexcessive battery drain is detected, thesystem temporarily disables someelectrical systems to protect the battery.
Systems included are:
•Heated rear window.
•Heated seats.
•Climate control.
•Heated steering wheel.
•Audio unit.
•Navigation system.
A message may appear in the informationdisplay to alert you that battery protectionactions are active. This message is only fornotification that an action is taking place,and not intended to indicate an electricalproblem or that the battery requiresreplacement.
After battery replacement, or in somecases after charging the battery with anexternal charger, the battery managementsystem requires eight hours of vehicle sleeptime to relearn the battery state of charge.During this time, your vehicle must remainfully locked with the ignition switched off.
Note:Prior to relearning the battery stateof charge, the battery management systemmay temporarily disable some electricalsystems.

About SYNC

Note:You can switch the system on anduse it for up to an hour without switchingthe ignition on.
Note:You can use the system after youswitch the ignition off for up to 10 minutesor until you open a door.

Downloading an Update
1.Go to the SYNC update page on thelocal Ford website.
2.Download the update.
Note:The website notifies you if an updateis available.
3.Insert a USB drive into your computer.
Note:The USB drive needs to be empty andmeet the minimum requirements detailedon the website.
4.Follow the instructions provided todownload the update to the USB drive.
Installing an Update
Note:You can use the system when aninstallation is in progress.
1.Disconnect all other USB devices fromthe USB ports.
2.Connect the USB drive with the updateto a USB port.

USING VOICE RECOGNITION
The SYNC 3 system allows you to use voicecommands to control features like audioand climate controls. By using voicecommands, you can keep your hands onthe wheel and your eyes on the road.
You can access each feature controlled bySYNC 3 through a variety of commands.
To activate the SYNC 3 voicecommands push the voicebutton on the steering wheel andwait for the prompt.

Navigation Map Accuracy andUpdates
HERE is the digital map provider for thenavigation application. If you find map dataerrors, you may report them directly toHERE by going to www.here.com. HEREevaluates all reported map errors andresponds with the result of theirinvestigation by e-mail.
The navigation system map data maycontain inaccurate or incompleteinformation due to the passage of time,changing circumstances, sources used andthe nature of collecting comprehensivegeographic data, any of which may lead toincorrect results. Inaccurate speed limitinformation, turn restrictions and otherroad attributes may affect the determinedroute and associated guidance
Annual navigation map updates areavailable for purchase through yourdealership. Depending on your purchaseagreement, you might be eligible for a freemap update. You can choose to downloadthe map data update onto a USB, order aUSB, or use Wi-Fi to deliver automaticupdates. To update your map data overWi-Fi, your vehicle must be connected toa Wi-Fi access point. Map data files arelarge, so it is highly recommended toperform the update when free Wi-Fi isavailable otherwise high data rates mayapply. Power Flow
The power flow information foryour hybrid vehicle is availablethrough the home screen orunder Apps.
Vehicle Operational States
Power flows to or from the front and rearwheels depending on operational stateand drive conditions.
•Idling: The vehicle is running and in park(P). The engine and/or the high voltagebattery are on.
•Electric Driving: The vehicle is runningand in drive (D) or neutral (N). The highvoltage battery provides power to thewheels.
•Hybrid Driving: The vehicle is runningand in drive (D) or neutral (N). Theengine and the high voltage batteryprovide power to the wheels.
•Regenerative Braking: The vehicle isrunning in drive (D) and is slowingdown. Power captured by theregenerative braking system is sentback to the high voltage battery.
