Automatic
Transmission Fluid
How to Check Automatic
Transmission Fluid
It is not necessary to check
the transmission fluid level.
A transmission fluid leak is the
only reason for fluid loss. If a
leak occurs, take the vehicle to
your dealer and have it
repaired as soon as possible.
The vehicle is not equipped
with a transmission fluid level
dipstick. There is a special
procedure for checking and
changing the transmission
fluid. Because this procedure
is difficult, this should be done
at the dealer. Contact your
dealer for additional
information.
Caution
Use of the incorrect
automatic transmission fluid
may damage the vehicle, and
the damage may not be
covered by the vehicle
warranty. Always use the
correct automatic
transmission fluid. See
Recommended Fluids and
Lubricants
0474.
Change the fluid and filter at
the intervals listed in
Maintenance Schedule 0469,
and be sure to use the fluid
listed in Recommended Fluids
and Lubricants 0474.
Manual Transmission
Fluid
It is not necessary to check
the manual transmission fluid
level. A transmission fluid leak
is the only reason for fluid
loss. If a leak occurs, take the
vehicle to your dealer and
have it repaired as soon as

Vehicle Storage
{Warning
Batteries have acid that can
burn you and gas that can
explode. You can be badly
hurt if you are not careful.
See Jump Starting - North
America0447 for tips on
working around a battery
without getting hurt.
Infrequent Usage: Remove the
black, negative (−) cable from
the battery to keep the
battery from running down.
Extended Storage: Remove
the black, negative (−) cable
from the battery or use a
battery trickle charger.
All-Wheel Drive
If the vehicle is equipped with
All-Wheel-Drive (AWD), this is
an additional system that
needs lubrication.
Transfer Case
Under normal driving
conditions, transfer case fluid
does not require maintenance
unless there is a fluid leak or
unusual noise. If required, have
the transfer case serviced by
your dealer.
Park Brake and
P (Park) Mechanism
Check
{Warning
When you are doing this
check, the vehicle could
begin to move. You or
others could be injured and
property could be damaged.
Make sure there is room in
front of the vehicle in case it
begins to roll. Be ready to
apply the regular brake at
once should the vehicle
begin to move. Park on a fairly steep hill, with
the vehicle facing downhill.
Keeping your foot on the
regular brake, set the parking
brake.
.To check the parking brake's
holding ability: With the
engine running and the
transmission in N (Neutral),
slowly remove foot pressure
from the regular brake pedal.
Do this until the vehicle is
held by the parking
brake only.
.Automatic transmission
vehicles only: To check the
P (Park) mechanism's holding
ability: With the engine
running, shift to P (Park).
Then release the parking
brake followed by the
regular brake.
Contact your dealer if service
is required.

The vehicle must be in
N (Neutral) and the electric
parking brake must be
released when loading the
vehicle onto a flatbed tow
truck.

Automatic Transmission
(Electronic Shifter) 0275 to
place the vehicle in

.If jump starting is
unsuccessful, the vehicle will
not move. Tire skates or
dollies must be used under
the non-rolling tires to
prevent vehicle damage.
V-Series Blackwing Only
Due to low ramp angles on the
V-Series Blackwing, use care
when loading the vehicle onto
a flatbed carrier. Front spring
spacers were provided for
lifting the front suspension if
more clearance is necessary
when towing.
Front Tow Eye
The vehicle is equipped with a
tow eye. Only use the tow eye
to pull the vehicle onto a
flatbed car carrier from a flat
road surface. Do not use the
tow eye to pull the vehicle
from snow, mud, or sand. The
tow eye is located under the
carpet in the trunk.
Carefully open the cover in the
fascia by using the small notch
that conceals the tow eye
socket.
