6188-1. Essential information
If the door can be opened,
open the door and exit the
vehicle.
If the door can not be opened,
open the window using the
power window switch and
ensure an escape route.
If the window can be opened,
exit the vehicle through the
window.
If the door and window cannot
be opened due to the rising
water, remain calm, wait until
the water level inside the
vehicle rises to the point that
the water pressure inside of
the vehicle equals the water
pressure outside of the vehi-
cle and then open the door
after waiting for the rising
water to enter the vehicle, and
exit the vehicle. When the outside water level exceeds
half the height of the door, the
door cannot be opened from
the inside due to water pres-
sure.
■Water level exceeds the floor
When the water level exceeds the
floor and time has passed, the elec-
trical equipment will get damaged,
the power windows will not operate,
the engine and motor stop, and the
vehicle may not be able to get mov-
ing.
■Using an emergency escape
hammer*
Laminated glass is used in the wind-
shield on this veh icle. Laminated
glass cannot be shattered with an
emergency hammer
*. Tempered
glass is used in the windows on this
vehicle.
*: Contact your Toyota dealer or
aftermarket accessory manufac-
turer for further information about
an emergency hammer.
If the vehicle is sub-
merged or water on
the road is rising
This vehicle is not designed
to be able to drive on roads
that are deeply flooded with
water. Do not drive on roads
where the roads may be
submerged or the water
may be rising. It is danger-
ous to remain in the vehicle,
if it anticipated that the vehi-
cle will be flooded or set a
drift. Remain calm and fol-
low the following.
WARNING
■Caution while driving
Do not drive on roads where the
roads may be submerged or the
water may be rising. Otherwise
the vehicle may be damaged and
cannot move, as well as become
flooded and set a drift, which may
lead to death.

6428-2. Steps to take in an emergency
1Open the deck board
( P.531).
2 Take out the jack.
Do not touch the threaded portion
of the jack as it is greased.
Take out the tool bag.
WARNING
■Using the tire jack
Observe the following precau-
tions.
Improper use of the tire jack may
cause the vehicle to suddenly fall
off the jack, leading to death or
serious injury.
●Do not use the tire jack for any
purpose other than replacing
tires or installing and removing
tire chains.
●The equipped jack can only be
used with your vehicle. Do not
use it with other vehicles.
●And do not use jacks from other
vehicles with your vehicle.
●Put the jack prope rly in its jack
point.
●Do not put any part of your body
under the vehicle while it is sup-
ported by the jack.
●Do not start the hybrid system
or drive the vehicle while the
vehicle is suppor ted by the jack.
●Do not raise the vehicle while
someone is inside.
●When raising the vehicle, do not
put an object on or under the
jack.
●Do not raise the vehicle to a
height greater than that required
to replace the tire.
●Use a jack stand if it is neces-
sary to get under the vehicle.
●Stop the vehicle on firm, flat and
level ground, firmly set the park-
ing brake and shift the shift
lever to P. Block the wheel diag-
onally opposite to the one being
changed if necessary.
●When lowering the vehicle,
make sure that there is no-one
near the vehicle. If there are
people nearby, warn them
vocally before lowering.

3Lower the vehicle.
4 Firmly tighten each wheel nut
two or three times in the
order shown in the illustra-
tion.
Tightening torque:
76 ft•lbf (103 N•m, 10.5 kgf•m)
5Stow the flat tire, tire jack and
all tools.
■The compact spare tire
●The compact spare tire is identi-
fied by the label “TEMPORARY USE ONLY” on the tire sidewall.
Use the compact spare tire tem-
porarily, and only in an emer-
gency.
●Make sure to check the tire infla-
tion pressure of the compact
spare tire. (
P.672)
■When using the compact spare
tire
As the compact spare tire is not
equipped with a tire pressure warn-
ing valve and transmitter (if
equipped), low inflation pressure of
the spare tire will not be indicated by
the tire pressure warning system.
Also, if you replace the compact
spare tire after the tire pressure
warning light com es on, the light
remains on.
■When the compact spare tire is
attached
The vehicle height may become
lower when driving with the compact
spare tire compared to when driving
with standard tires.
■If you have a flat front tire on a
road covered with snow or ice
Install the compact spare tire on one
of the rear wheels of the vehicle.
Perform the following steps and fit
tire chains to the front tires:
1 Replace a rear tire with the com-
pact spare tire.
2 Replace the flat front tire with the
tire removed from the rear of the
vehicle.
3 Fit tire chains to the front tires.
■When stowing the jack
Before storing the jack, adjust the
height of the ja ck to match the
shape of the jack holder.
The storage direction of the jack dif-
fers depending on the type, so make
sure to store the ja ck in the correct
direction.
Except for models made in Japan

6488-2. Steps to take in an emergency
WARNING
■Speed limit when using the
compact spare tire
Do not drive at speeds in excess
of 50 mph (80 km/h) when a com-
pact spare tire is installed on the
vehicle.
The compact spare tire is not
designed for driving at high
speeds. Failure to observe this
precaution may lead to an acci-
dent causing death or serious
injury.
■After using the tools and jack
Before driving, make sure all the
tools and jack are securely in
place in their storage location to
reduce the possibility of personal
injury during a co llision or sudden
braking.
NOTICE
■Be careful when driving over
bumps with the compact
spare tire installed on the
vehicle
The vehicle height may become
lower when driving with the com-
pact spare tire compared to when
driving with standard tires. Be
careful when driving over uneven
road surfaces.
■Driving with tire chains and
the compact spare tire
Do not fit tire chains to the com-
pact spare tire.
Tire chains may damage the vehi-
cle body and adversely affect driv-
ing performance.
■When replacing the tires
(vehicles with tire pressure
warning system)
When removing or fitting the
wheels, tires or th e tire pressure
warning valve and transmitter,
contact your Toyota dealer as the
tire pressure warning valve and
transmitter may be damaged if not
handled correctly.
