Cleaning and protecting the vehicle exterior
OWorking from top to bottom, liberally apply water to the vehicle
body, wheel wells and underside of the vehicle to remove any dirt
and dust.
OWash the vehicle body using a sponge or soft cloth, such as a
chamois.
OFor hard-to-remove marks, use car wash soap and rinse thoroughly
with water.
OWipe away any water.
OWax the vehicle when the waterproof coating deteriorates.
If water does not bead on a clean surface, apply wax when the vehicle
body is cool.
QBefore car washes
Check that the fuel filler door and charging port lid on your vehicle are closed
properly.
QAutomatic car washes
OFold the mirrors before washing the vehicle. Start washing from the front of
the vehicle. Make sure to extend the mirrors before driving.
OBrushes used in automatic car washes may scratch the vehicle surface,
parts (wheel, etc.) and harm your vehicle’s paint.
ORear spoiler may not be washable in some automatic car washes. There
may also be an increased risk of damage to vehicle.
QHigh pressure car washes
As water may enter the cabin, do not bring the nozzle tip near the gaps
around the doors or perimeter of the windows, or spray these areas continu-
ously.
Perform the following to protect the vehicle and maintain it in
prime condition:

Maintenance and care
QWhen replacing wheels
The wheels of your vehicle are equipped with tire pressure warn ing valves
and transmitters that allow the tire pressure warning system to provide
advance warning in the event of a loss in tire inflation pressu re. Whenever
wheels are replaced, tire pressure warning valves and transmitt ers must be
installed. ( P. 601)
WARNING
QWhen replacing wheels
O Do not use wheels that are a different size from those recommended in the
Owner’s Manual, as this may resu lt in a loss of handling control.
O Never use an inner tube in a leaking wheel which is designed for a tube-
less tire. Doing so may result in an accident, causing death or serious
injury.
Q When installing the wheel nuts
Never use oil or grease on the wheel bolts or wheel nuts.
Oil and grease may cause the wheel nuts to be excessively tight ened, lead-
ing to bolt or disc wheel damage. In addition, the oil or greas e can cause the
wheel nuts to loosen and the wheel may fall off, causing an acc ident and
resulting in death or serious injury. Remove any oil or grease from the wheel
bolts or wheel nuts.
Q Use of defective wheels prohibited
Do not use cracked or deformed wheels.
Doing so could cause the tire to leak air during driving, possi bly causing an
accident.

Q Replacing tire pressure warning valves and transmitters
O Because tire repair or replacement may affect the tire pressure warning
valves and transmitters, make sure to have tires serviced by an y autho-
rized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any rel iable repairer
or other qualified service shop. In addition, make sure to purc hase your
tire pressure warning valves and transmitters at any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repaire r.
O Ensure that only genuine Toyota wheels are used on your vehicle.
Tire pressure warning valves and transmitters may not work prop erly with
non-genuine wheels.

Low engine oil pressure warning light
(warning buzzer)*2
Indicates that the engine oil pressure is too low
 Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and con-
tact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota autho-
rized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
Malfunction indicator lamp
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The hybrid system;
• The electronic engine control system; or
• The electronic throttle control system
 Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.
SRS warning light
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The SRS airbag system; or
• The seat belt pretensioner system
 Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.
ABS warning light
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The ABS; or
• The brake assist system
 Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.

Indicates a malfunction in the EPS (Electric Power Steer-
ing) system

*1: Brake system warning buzzer:
When there is a possible problem that could affect braking perf ormance,
the warning light will come on and a warning buzzer will sound.
*2: Low engine oil pressure warning buzzer:
A buzzer also sounds continuously for approximately 30 seconds at maxi-
mum in addition to the low engine oil pressure warning light wh en the
“READY” indicator is illuminated.
*3: Open door warning buzzer:
The open door warning buzzer sounds to alert one or more of the doors is
not fully closed (with the vehicle having reached a speed of 5 k m/h
[3 mph]).
*4: Driver’s and front passenger’s seat belt warning buzzer:
The driver’s and front passenger’s seat belt warning buzzer sou nds to alert
the driver and front passenger that his or her seat belt is not fastened. If
the seat belt is unfastened, the buzzer sounds intermittently f or a certain
period of time after the vehicle reaches a certain speed.
*5: Rear passengers’ seat belt warning buzzer:
The rear passengers’ seat belt warning buzzer sounds to alert t he rear
passenger that his or her seat belt is not fastened. If the sea t belt is unfas-
tened, the buzzer sounds intermittently for a certain period of time, after
the seat belt is fastened and unfastened and the vehicle reache s a certain
speed.

Q Front passenger detection sensor, seat belt reminder and warning
buzzer
O If luggage is placed on the front passenger seat, the front passenger detec-
tion sensor may cause the warning light to flash and the warnin g buzzer to
sound even if a passenger is not sitting in the seat.
O If a cushion is placed on the seat, the sensor may not detect a passenger,
and the warning light may not operate properly.
Q Electric power steering system warning light (warning buzzer)
When the 12-volt battery charge becomes insufficient or the vol tage tempo-
rarily drops, the electric power steering system warning light may come on
and the warning buzzer may sound.
Q If the malfunction indicator lamp comes on while driving
The malfunction indicator lamp will come on if the fuel tank be comes com-
pletely empty. If the fuel tank is empty, refuel the vehicle im mediately. The
malfunction indicator lamp will go off after several trips.
If the malfunction indicator lamp does not go off, contact any authorized
Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer as soon
as possible.

O If a message or image about an open/close state of a part or replenishment
of a consumable is shown
Confirm the part indicated by the multi-information display or a warning light,
and then perform the coping method such as closing the open doo r or
replenishing a consumable.
Q If “See Owner’s Manual” is shown
O If “Braking Power Low Stop in a Safe Place See Owner’s Manual” is shown,
this may be a malfunction. Immediately stop the vehicle in a sa fe place and
contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized rep airer, or any
reliable repairer. Continuing to drive the vehicle may be dange rous.
O If “Engine Oil Pressure Low” is shown, this may be a malfunction. Immedi-
ately stop the vehicle in a safe place and contact any authoriz ed Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repaire r.
O If the following messages are shown, there may be a malfunction. Immedi-
ately have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retai ler or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
• “Plug-in charging system malfunction.”
• “Hybrid System Malfunction”
