straight up and so that you do
not have to lean forward to

QEmergency locking retractor (ELR)
The retractor will lock the belt during a sudden stop or on imp act. It may also
lock if you lean forward too quickly. A slow, easy motion will allow the belt to
extend so that you can move around fully.
Q Child seat belt usage
The seat belts of your vehicle were principally designed for pe rsons of adult
size.
O Use a child restraint system appropriate for the child, until the child
becomes large enough to properly wear the vehicle’s seat belt. (P. 5 4 )
O When the child becomes large enough to properly wear the vehicle’s seat
belt, follow the instructions regarding seat belt usage. ( P. 34)
Q Replacing the belt after the pretensioner has been activated
If the vehicle is involved in multiple collisions, the pretensi oner will activate for
the first collision, but will not activate for the second or su bsequent collisions.
Q Seat belt regulations
If seat belt regulations exist in the country where you reside, please contact
any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, o r any reliable
repairer for seat belt repl acement or installation.
WARNING
Observe the following precautions to reduce the risk of injury in the event of
sudden braking, sudden swerving or an accident.
Failing to do so may cause death or serious injury.
Q Wearing a seat belt
O Ensure that all passengers wear a seat belt.
O Always wear a seat belt properly.
O Each seat belt should be used by one person only. Do not use a seat belt
for more than one person at once, including children.
O Toyota recommends that children be seated in the rear seat and always
use a seat belt and/or an appropriate child restraint system.
O To achieve a proper seating position, do not recline the seat more than
necessary. The seat belt is most effective when the occupants a re sitting
up straight and well back in the seats.
O Do not wear the shoulder belt under your arm.
O Always wear your seat belt low and snug across your hips.

Riding with children
OIt is recommended that children sit in the rear seats to avoid acci-
dental contact with the shift lever, wiper switch etc.
O Use the rear door child-protector lock or the window lock switch to
avoid children opening the door while driving or operating the
power window accidentally. ( P. 276, 303)
O Do not let small children operate equipment which may catch or
pinch body parts, such as the power window, hood, back door,
seats etc.
Observe the following precautions when children are in the vehi -
cle.
Use a child restraint system appropriate for the child, until t he
child becomes large enough to properly wear the vehicle’s seat
belt.
WARNING
Never leave children unattended in the vehicle, and never allow children to
have or use the key.
Children may be able to start the vehicle or shift the vehicle into neutral.
There is also a danger that children may injure themselves by p laying with
the side windows or other features of the vehicle. In addition, heat build-up
or extremely cold temperatures inside the vehicle can be fatal to children.

QInstalling child restraint system using a seat belt
Install the child restraint system in accordance to the operati on
manual enclosed with the child restraint system.
If the child restraint system on hand is not within the “univer sal” cat-
egory (or the necessary information is not in the table), refer to the
“Vehicle List” provided by the child restraint system maker for vari-
ous possible installation positions, or check the compatibility after
asking the retailer of the child restraint system. ( P. 6 0 , 6 1 )
If installing the child restraint system to the front passenger seat
is unavoidable, refer to P. 56 for front passenger seat adjustm ent.
If the head restraint interferes with the child restraint syste m
installation and the head restraint can be removed, remove the
head restraint. Otherwise, put the head restraint in the upper
most position. ( P. 294)

child restraint system and
insert the plate into the
buckle. Make sure that the
belt is not twisted. Securely
fix the seat belt to the child
restraint system in accor-
dance to the directions
enclosed with the child
restraint system.
If your child restraint system
is not equipped with a lock-
off (a seat belt locking fea-
ture), secure the child
restraint system using a lock-
ing clip.
After installing the child restraint system, rock it back and f orth to
ensure that it is installed securely. ( P. 6 9 )

QRemoving a child restraint system installed with a seat belt
Press the buckle release button and fully retract the seat belt .
When releasing the buckle, the child restraint system may spring up due
to the rebound of the seat cushion. Release the buckle while ho lding
down the child restraint system.
Since the seat belt automatically reels itself, slowly return i t to the stow-
ing position.
Q When installing a child restraint system
You may need a locking clip to install the child restraint syst em. Follow the
instructions provided by the manufacturer of the system. If you r child restraint
system does not provide a locking clip, you can purchase the fo llowing item
from any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repair er, or any reli-
able repairer: Locking clip for child restraint system
(Part No. 73119-22010)
WARNING
Q When installing a child restraint system
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.
O Do not allow children to play with the seat belt. If the seat belt becomes
twisted around a child’s neck, it may lead to choking or other serious inju-
ries that could result in death. If this occurs and the buckle cannot be
unfastened, scissors should be used to cut the belt.
O Ensure that the belt and plate are securely locked and the seat belt is not
twisted.
O Shake the child restraint system left and right, and forward and backward
to ensure that it has been securely installed.
O After securing a child restraint system, never adjust the seat.
O When a junior seat is installed, always ensure that the shoulder belt is
positioned across the center of the child’s shoulder. The belt should be
kept away from the child’s neck, but not so that it could fall off the child’s
shoulder.
O Follow all installation instructions provided by the child restraint system
manufacturer.

NOTICE
QWhen use the charging cable and related parts
To prevent damage to the charging cable and related parts, obse rve the fol-
lowing precautions.
O When interrupting or canceling charging, remove the charging connector
before removing the plug.
O When removing the charging cable, check that the charging connector is
unlocked.
O Do not forcefully pull the connector cap and charging inlet cap.
O Do not apply a vibration to the charging connector while charging.
Charging may be stopped.
O Do not insert anything but the charging connector.
O When inserting the plug into or removing the plug from the socket, make
sure to hold the body of the plug.
O Do not damage the charging inlet cap with a sharp object.
O Do not forcefully pull the charging cable that is caught or entangled.
If the cable is entangled, disentangle it before using.
O When charging from the external device, use the charging cable equipped
with the vehicle.
Q When charging
Do not insert the plug into the charging inlet.
The charging inlet may be damaged.
Q After charging
O Store the charging cable out of reach from infants and children.
O After disconnecting the charging connector from the charging inlet, make
sure to put on the charging inlet cap and close the charging po rt lid.
If the charging inlet cap is not put on, water or foreign objec ts may enter
the charging inlet, which could lead to vehicle damage.
O After removing the plug from the socket, keep it in a safe place free from
moisture and dust.
The charging cable or plug may be damaged if the cable is stepp ed on or
ridden over by the vehicle.
