When trouble arises
Shift the shift position to N* and release the parking brake.
*: If the shift position cannot be changed or the current shift position can
not be confirmed, contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toy ota
authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer or commercial tow ing ser-
vice before towing.
Q While towing
If the hybrid system is off, the power assist for the brakes an d steering will not
function, making steering and braking more difficult.
Q Wheel nut wrench
Wheel nut wrench is installed in luggage compartment. ( P. 6 1 3 )
Q Towing eyelet installation hole on the rear of the vehicle
The hole is equipped for fastening the
vehicle while shipping. The towing eyelet
installed in this hole cannot be used for
towing another vehicle.

Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.
Q When towing the vehicle
Q While towing
O When towing using cables or chains, avoid sudden starts, etc. which place
excessive stress on the towing eyelets, cables or chains. The t owing eye-
lets, cables or chains may become damaged, broken debris may hi t peo-
ple, and cause serious damage.
O Do not turn the power switch off.
This may lead to an accident as the front wheels will be locked by the
parking lock.
Q Installing towing eyelets to the vehicle
O The towing eyelets are only for the vehicle equipped with them. Do not use
the towing eyelets for another vehicle, and do not use the towi ng eyelets
for this vehicle on another vehicle.
O Make sure that towing eyelets are installed securely.
If not securely installed, towing eyelets may come loose during towing.
Be sure to transport the vehicle with the
front wheels raised or with all four wheels
raised off the ground. If the vehicle is
towed with the front wheels contacting
the ground, the drivetrain and related
parts may be damaged or electricity gen-
erated by the operation of the motor may
cause a fire to occur depending on the
nature of the damage or malfunction.

QTowing with a sling-type truck
Q To prevent damage to the vehicle when towing using a wheel-lift type
truck
When raising the vehicle, ensure adequate ground clearance for towing at
the opposite end of the raised vehicle. Without adequate cleara nce, the
vehicle could be damaged while being towed.
Q To prevent damage to the vehicle when towing with a sling-type truck
Do not tow with a sling-type tr uck, either from the front or rear.
Q To prevent damage to the vehicle during emergency towing
Do not secure cables or chains to the suspension components.
Do not tow with a sling-type truck to pre-
vent body damage.

Q When recharging or replacing the 12-volt battery
O In some cases, it may not be possible to unlock the doors using the smart
entry & start system when the 12-volt battery is discharged. Us e the wire-
less remote control or the mechanical key to lock or unlock the doors.
O The hybrid system may not start on the first attempt after the 12-volt battery
has recharged but will start normally after the second attempt. This is not a
malfunction.
O It may be impossible to unlock the charging port lid or locking and unlocking
the charging connector immediately after the 12-volt battery is reconnected.
In this case, carry the electronic key on your person and opera te the
charging port lid or charging connector lock switch again.
O The power switch mode is memorized by the vehicle. When the 12-volt bat-
tery is reconnected, the system will return to the mode it was in before the
12-volt battery was discharged. Before disconnecting the 12-vol t battery,
turn the power switch off.
If you are unsure what mode the power switch was in before the 12-volt bat-
tery discharged, be especially careful when reconnecting the 12 -volt battery.
O If the 12-volt battery discharges while the shift position is in P, it may not be
possible to shift the shift position to other positions. In thi s case, the vehicle
cannot be towed without lifting both front wheels because the f ront wheels
will be locked. ( P. 650)
Q When replacing the 12-volt battery
O Use a 12-volt battery that conforms to European regulations.
O Use a 12-volt battery that the case size is same as the previous one (LN1),
20 hour rate capacity (20HR) is equivalent (45Ah) or greater, a nd perfor-
mance rating (CCA) is equivalent (295A) or greater.
• If the sizes differ, the 12-volt battery cannot be properly se cured.
• If the 20 hour rate capacity is low, even if the time period w here the vehi-
cle is not used is a short time, the 12-volt battery may discha rge and the
hybrid system may not be able to start.
O For details, consult any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized
repairer, or any reliable repairer.

QWhen attempting to free a stuck vehicle
If you choose to push the vehicle back and forth to free it, ma ke sure the
surrounding area is clear to avoid striking other vehicles, obj ects or people.
The vehicle may also lunge forward or lunge back suddenly as it becomes
free. Use extreme caution.
Q When changing the shift position
Be careful not to change the shift position with the accelerato r pedal
depressed.
This may lead to unexpected rapid acceleration of the vehicle t hat may
cause an accident resulting in death or serious injury.
NOTICE
Q To avoid damage to the hybrid transmission and other components
O Avoid spinning the front wheels and depressing the accelerator pedal
more than necessary.
O If the vehicle remains stuck even after these procedures are performed,
the vehicle may require towing to be freed.
