QOperation conditions of each function
OLane departure alert function
This function operates when all of the following conditions are met.
• LTA is turned on.
• Vehicle speed is approximately 50 km/h (32 mph) or more.

• System recognizes white (yellow) lane lines or a course*2. (When a white
[yellow] line or course
*2 is recognized on only one side, the system will
operate only for the recognized side.)
• Width of traffic lane is approximately 3 m (9.8 ft.) or more.
• Turn signal lever is not operated.
• Vehicle is not being driven around a sharp curve.
• No system malfunctions are detected. (P. 394)
*1: The function operates even if the vehicle speed is less than approxi-
mately 50 km/h (32 mph) when the lane centering function is operating.
*2: Boundary between asphalt and the side of the road, such as grass, soil,
or a curb
OSteering assist function
This function operates when all of the following conditions are met in addi-
tion to the operation conditions for the lane departure alert function.
• Setting for (“LTA Steering Assist Mode”) in of the multi-
information display is set to “On”. (P. 220)
• Vehicle is not accelerated or decelerated by a fixed amount or more.
• Steering wheel is not operated with a steering force level suitable for
changing lanes.
• ABS, VSC, TRC and PCS are not operating.
• TRC or VSC is not turned off.
• Hands off steering wheel warning is not displayed. (P. 393)
OVehicle sway warning function
This function operates when all of the following conditions are met.
• Setting for (“Lane Sway Warning Status”) in of the multi-
information display is set to “On”. (P. 220)
• Vehicle speed is approximately 50 km/h (32 mph) or more.
• Width of traffic lane is approximately 3 m (9.8 ft.) or more.
• No system malfunctions are detected. (P. 394)

Driving
OLane centering function
This function operates when all of the following conditions are met.
• LTA is turned on.
• Setting for (“LTA Steering Assist Mode”) and (“LTA
Center Trace On/Off”) in of the multi-information display are set to
“On”. (P. 220)
• This function recognizes white (yellow) lane lines or the position of a pre-
ceding vehicle (except when the preceding vehicle is small, such as a
motorcycle).
• The dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range is operating in
vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode.
• Width of traffic lane is approximately 3 to 4 m (10 to 13 ft.).
• Turn signal lever is not operated.
• Vehicle is not being driven around a sharp curve.
• No system malfunctions are detected. (P. 394)
• Vehicle does not accelerate or decelerate by a fixed amount or more.
• Steering wheel is not operated with a steering force level suitable for
changing lanes.
• ABS, VSC, TRC and PCS are not operating.
• TRC or VSC is not turned off.
• Hands off steering wheel warning is not displayed. (P. 393)
• The vehicle is being driven in the center of a lane.
• Steering assist function is not operating.

OWhen operation conditions are no longer met, a function may be temporarily
canceled. However, when the operation conditions are met again, operation
of the function is automatically restored. (P. 390)
OIf the operation conditions (P. 391) are no longer met while the lane cen-
tering function is operating, the buzzer may sound to indicate that the func-
tion has been temporarily canceled.
QSteering assist function/lane centering function
ODepending on the vehicle speed, lane departure situation, road conditions,
etc., the driver may not feel the function is operating or the function may not
operate at all.
OThe steering control of the function is overridden by the driver’s steering
wheel operation.
ODo not attempt to test the operation of the steering assist function.
QLane departure alert function
OThe warning buzzer may be difficult to hear due to external noise, audio
playback, etc.
OIf the edge of the course
* is not clear or straight, the lane departure alert
function may not operate.
ODo not attempt to test the operation of the lane departure alert function.

Driving
QHands off steering wheel warning
OWhen the system determines that the driver is driving without holding the
steering wheel while the system is operating
If the driver continues to keep their hands off of the steering wheel, the
buzzer sounds, the driver is warned and the function is temporarily can-
celed. This warning also operates in the same way when the driver continu-
ously operates the steering wheel only a small amount.
OWhen the system determines that the vehicle may deviate from the lane
while driving around a curve while the lane centering function is operating
Depending on the vehicle condition and road conditions, the warning may
not operate. Also, if the system determines that the vehicle is driving
around a curve, warnings will occur earlier than during straight-lane driving.
OWhen the system determines that the driver is driving without holding the
steering wheel while the steering wheel assist of the steering assist function
is operating.
If the driver continues to keep their hands off of the steering wheel and the
steering wheel assist is operating, the buzzer sounds and the driver is
warned. Each time the buzzer sounds, the continuing time of the buzzer
becomes longer.
QVehicle sway warning function In the following situations, a warning mes-
sage urging the driver to hold the steering
wheel and the symbol shown in the illus-
tration are displayed on the multi-informa-
tion display to warn the driver. The
warning stops when the system deter-
mines that the driver holds the steering
wheel. Always keep your hands on the
steering wheel when using this system,
regardless of warnings.
When the system determines that the
vehicle is swaying while the vehicle sway
warning function is operating, a buzzer
sounds and a warning message urging
the driver to rest and the symbol shown in
the illustration are simultaneously dis-
played on the multi-information display.
Depending on the vehicle and road condi-
tions, the warning may not operate.

Driving
BSM (Blind Spot Monitor)
The Blind Spot Monitor is a system that has 2 functions;
OThe Blind Spot Monitor function
Assists the driver in making the decision when changing lanes
OThe Rear Crossing Traffic Alert function
Assists the driver when backing up
These functions use same sensors.
Outside rear view mirror indicators
Blind Spot Monitor function:
When a vehicle is detected in the blind spot, the outside rear view mirror
indicator comes on while the turn signal lever is not operated. If the turn
signal lever is operated toward the detected side, the outside rear view
mirror indicator flashes.
Rear Crossing Traffic Alert function:
When a vehicle approaching from the right or left rear of the vehicle is
detected, the outside rear view mirror indicators flash.

QThe ABS does not operate effectively when
O The limits of tire gripping performance have been exceeded (such as
excessively worn tires on a snow covered road).
O The vehicle hydroplanes while driving at high speed on wet or slick roads.
Q Stopping distance when the ABS is operating may exceed that of nor-
mal conditions
The ABS is not designed to shorten the vehicle’s stopping dista nce. Always
maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you, espe cially in the
following situations:
O When driving on dirt, gravel or snow-covered roads
O When driving with tire chains
O When driving over bumps in the road
O When driving over roads with potholes or uneven surfaces
Q TRC/VSC may not operate effectively when
Directional control and power may not be achievable while drivi ng on slip-
pery road surfaces, even if the TRC/VSC system is operating. Dr ive the
vehicle carefully in conditions where stability and power may b e lost.
Q Hill-start assist control does not operate effectively when
O Do not overly rely on hill-start assist control. Hill-start assist control may
not operate effectively on steep inclines and roads covered wit h ice.
O Unlike the parking brake, hill-start assist control is not intended to hold the
vehicle stationary for an extended period of time. Do not attem pt to use
hill-start assist control to hold the vehicle on an incline, as doing so may
lead to an accident.
Q When the TRC/ABS/VSC is activated
The slip indicator light flashes. Always drive carefully. Reckl ess driving may
cause an accident. Exercise particular care when the indicator light flashes.

WARNING
QDriving with snow tires
Observe the following precautions to reduce the risk of acciden ts.
Failure to do so may result in a loss of vehicle control and ca use death or
serious injury.
O Use tires of the specified size.
O Maintain the recommended level of air pressure.
O Do not drive at speeds in excess of the speed limit or the speed limit spec-
ified for the snow tires being used.
O Use snow tires on all, not just some wheels.
Q Driving with tire chains
Observe the following precautions to reduce the risk of acciden ts.
Failure to do so may result in the vehicle being unable to be d riven safely,
and may cause death or serious injury.
O Do not drive in excess of the speed limit specified for the tire chains being
used, or 50 km/h (30 mph), whichever is lower.
O Avoid driving on bumpy road surfaces or over potholes.
O Avoid sudden acceleration, abrupt steering, sudden braking and shifting
operations that cause sudden engine braking.
O Slow down sufficiently before entering a curve to ensure that vehicle con-
trol is maintained.
O Do not use LTA (Lane Tracing Assist).
Q When parking the vehicle
When parking the vehicle without applying the parking brake, ma ke sure to
chock the wheels. If you do not chock the wheels, the vehicle m ay move
unexpectedly, possibly resulting in an accident.
NOTICE
Q Repairing or replacing snow tires
Request repairs or replacement of snow tires from any authorize d Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repaire r or legitimate
tire retailers.
This is because the removal and attachment of snow tires affect s the opera-
tion of the tire pressure warning valves and transmitters.
Q Fitting tire chains
The tire pressure warning valves and transmitters may not funct ion correctly
when tire chains are fitted.

When trouble arises
(Flashes or illuminates)
PCS warning light
• When a buzzer sounds simultaneously:
Indicates a malfunction has occurred in the PCS (Pre-
Collision System).
 Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.
• When a buzzer does not sound:
The PCS (Pre-Collision System) has become temporar-
ily unavailable, corrective action may be necessary.
 Follow the instructions displayed on the multi-infor-
mation display. ( P. 366, 665)
If the PCS (Pre-Collision System) or VSC (Vehicle Stability
Control) system is disabled, the PCS warning light will illu-
minate.

LTA indicator (warning buzzer)
Indicates a malfunction in the LTA (Lane Tracing Assist)
 Follow the instructions displayed on the multi-infor-
mation display. ( P. 394)
Slip indicator light
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The VSC system;
• The TRC system; or
• The hill-start assist control system
 Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.
The light will flash when the ABS, VSC or TRC system is
operating.
High coolant temperature warning light
• When the light flashes:
Indicates that the engine coolant temperature is too high
The light changes from a flashing to a solid light when
the temperature further increases
 Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place.

• When the light comes on without flashing:
Indicates a malfunction in the exhaust heat recirculator
system
 Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.
