Q Closing the windows
O The driver is responsible for all the power window operations, including the
operation for the passengers. In order to prevent accidental op eration,
especially by a child, do not let a child operate the power win dows. It is
possible for children and other passengers to have body parts c aught in
the power window. Also, when riding with a child, it is recomme nded to use
the window lock switch. ( P. 303)
O When using the wireless remote control or mechanical key and operating
the power windows, operate the power window after checking to m ake
sure that there is no possibility of any passenger having any o f their body
parts caught in the side window. Also do not let a child operat e side win-
dow by the wireless remote control or mechanical key. It is pos sible for
children and other passengers to get caught in the power window .
O When exiting the vehicle, turn the power switch off, carry the key and exit
the vehicle along with the child. There may be accidental opera tion, due to
mischief, etc., that may possibly lead to an accident.
Q Jam protection function
O Never use any part of your body to intentionally activate the jam protection
function.
O The jam protection function may not work if something gets jammed just
before the side window is fully closed. Be careful not to get a ny part of
your body jammed in the side window.
Q Catch protection function
O Never use any part of your body or clothing to intentionally activate the
catch protection function.
O The catch protection function may not work if something gets caught just
before the side window is fully opened. Be careful not to get a ny part of
your body or clothing caught in the side window.
O Check to make sure that all passengers
do not have any part of their body in a
position where it could be caught when
a side window is being operated.

ODrive carefully when it is raining, because visibility will be reduced, the win-
dows may become fogged-up, and the road will be slippery.
ODrive carefully when it starts to rain, because the road surface will be espe-
cially slippery.
ORefrain from high speeds when driving on an expressway in the rain,
because there may be a layer of water between the tires and the road sur-
face, preventing the steering and brakes from operating properly.
QRestraining the hybrid system output (Brake Override System)
OWhen the accelerator and brake pedals are depressed at the same time, the
hybrid system output may be restrained.

Q“ECO Accelerator Guidance” (P. 229)
It is easier to drive in an Eco-friendly manner by driving while referring to the
“ECO Accelerator Guidance” display. Also, by using the “ECO Accelerator
Guidance”, it is easier to increase the Eco score evaluation.
OWhen starting off:
While staying within the “ECO Accelerator Guidance” range, gradually
depress the accelerator pedal and accelerate to the desired speed. If exces-
sive acceleration is avoided, the “Eco-Start” score will increase.
OWhen driving:
After accelerating to the desired speed, release the accelerator pedal and
drive at a stable speed within the “ECO Accelerator Guidance” range. By
keeping the vehicle within the “ECO Accelerator Guidance” range, the “Eco-
Cruise” score will increase.
OWhen stopping:
When stopping the vehicle, early releasing the accelerator pedal will cause
the “Eco-Stop” score to increase.
QDrive-Start Control (DSC)
When the TRC is turned off (P. 511), sudden start restraint control also
does not operate. If your vehicle have trouble escaping from the mud or fresh
snow due to sudden start restraint control operation, deactivate TRC (P.
511) so that the vehicle may become able to escape from the mud or fresh
snow.

Q When starting the vehicle
Always keep your foot on the brake pedal while stopped with the “READY”
indicator is illuminated. This prevents the vehicle from creepi ng.
Q When driving the vehicle
O Do not drive if you are unfamiliar with the location of the brake and accel-
erator pedals to avoid depressing the wrong pedal.
• Accidentally depressing the accelerator pedal instead of the b rake
pedal will result in sudden acceleration that may lead to an ac cident.
• When backing up, you may twist your body around, leading to a diffi-
culty in operating the pedals. Make sure to operate the pedals properly.
• Make sure to keep a correct driving posture even when moving t he
vehicle only slightly. This allows you to depress the brake and accelera-
tor pedals properly.
• Depress the brake pedal using your right foot. Depressing the brake
pedal using your left foot may delay response in an emergency, result-
ing in an accident.
O The driver should pay extra attention to pedestrians when the vehicle is
powered only by the electric motor (traction motor). As there i s no engine
noise, the pedestrians may misjudge the vehicle’s movement. Eve n
though the vehicle is equipped with the vehicle proximity notif ication sys-
tem, drive with care as pedestrians in the vicinity may still n ot notice the
vehicle if the surrounding area is noisy.
O Do not drive the vehicle over or stop the vehicle near flammable materials
such as leaves, paper or rags.
The exhaust system and exhaust gases can be extremely hot. Thes e hot
parts may cause a fire if there is any flammable material nearb y.
O During normal driving, do not turn off the hybrid system. Turning the hybrid
system off while driving will not cause loss of steering or bra king control,
however, power assist to the steering will be lost. This will m ake it more
difficult to steer smoothly, so you should pull over and stop t he vehicle as
soon as it is safe to do so.

The Toyota Safety Sense is designed to operate under the assump tion that
the driver will drive safely, and is designed to help reduce th e impact to the
occupants and the vehicle in the case of a collision or assist the driver in
normal driving conditions.
As there is a limit to the degree of recognition accuracy and c ontrol perfor-
mance that this system can provide, do not overly rely on this system. The
driver is always responsible for paying attention to the vehicl e’s surround-
ings and driving safely.

QLimitations of the pre-collision system
O The driver is solely responsible for safe driving. Always drive safely, taking
care to observe your surroundings.
Do not use the pre-collision system instead of normal braking o perations
under any circumstances. This system will not prevent collision s or lessen
collision damage or injury in every situation. Do not overly re ly on this sys-
tem. Failure to do so may lead to an accident, resulting in dea th or serious
injury.
O Although this system is designed to help avoid a collision or help reduce
the impact of the collision, its effectiveness may change accor ding to vari-
ous conditions, therefore the system may not always be able to achieve
the same level of performance.
Read the following conditions carefully. Do not overly rely on this system
and always drive carefully.
• Conditions under which the system may operate even if there is no pos-
sibility of a collision: P. 374
• Conditions under which the system may not operate properly: P. 3 7 6
O Do not attempt to test the operation of the pre-collision system yourself.
Depending on the objects used for testing (dummies, cardboard o bjects
imitating detectable objects, etc.), the system may not operate properly,
possibly leading to an accident.
Q Pre-collision braking
O When the pre-collision braking function is operating, a large amount of
braking force will be applied.
O If the vehicle is stopped by the operation of the pre-collision braking func-
tion, the pre-collision braki ng function operation will be canceled after
approximately 2 seconds. Depress the brake pedal as necessary.
O The pre-collision braking function may not operate if certain operations are
performed by the driver. If the accelerator pedal is being depr essed
strongly or the steering wheel is being turned, the system may determine
that the driver is taking evasive action and possibly prevent t he pre-colli-
sion braking function from operating.
O In some situations, while the pre-collision braking function is operating,
operation of the function may be canceled if the accelerator pe dal is
depressed strongly or the steering wheel is turned and the syst em deter-
mines that the driver is taking evasive action.
O If the brake pedal is being depressed, the system may determine that the
driver is taking evasive action and possibly delay the operatio n timing of
the pre-collision braking function.

QBefore using LTA system
O Do not rely solely upon the LTA system. The LTA system does not auto-
matically drive the vehicle or reduce the amount of attention t hat must be
paid to the area in front of the vehicle. The driver must always assume full
responsibility for driving safely by paying careful attention t o the surround-
ing conditions and operating the steering wheel to correct the path of the
vehicle. Also, the driver must take adequate breaks when fatigu ed, such
as from driving for a long period of time.
O Failure to perform appropriate driving operations and pay careful attention
may lead to an accident, resulting in death or serious injury.
O When not using the LTA system, use the LTA switch to turn the system off.
Q Situations unsuitable for LTA system
In the following situations, use the LTA switch to turn the sys tem off. Failure
to do so may lead to an accident, resulting in death or serious injury.
O Vehicle is driven on a road surface which is slippery due to rainy weather,
fallen snow, freezing, etc.
O Vehicle is driven on a snow-covered road.
O White (yellow) lines are difficult to see due to rain, snow, fog, dust, etc.
O Vehicle is driven in a temporary lane or restricted lane due to construction
work.
O Vehicle is driven in a construction zone.
O A spare tire, tire chains, etc. are equipped.
O When the tires have been excessively worn, or when the tire inflation pres-
sure is low.
O During emergency towing.
Q Preventing LTA system malfunctions and operations performed by
mistake
O Do not modify the headlights or place stickers, etc. on the surface of the
lights.
O Do not modify the suspension etc. If the suspension etc. needs to be
replaced, contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota auth orized
repairer, or any reliable repairer.
O Do not install or place anything on the hood or grille. Also, do not install a
grille guard (bull bars, kangaroo bar, etc.).
O If your windshield needs repairs, contact any authorized Toyota retailer or
Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.

O Driving safely is the sole responsibility of the driver. Do not rely solely on
the system, and drive safely by always paying careful attention to your sur-
roundings.
O The dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range provides driving
assistance to reduce the driver’s burden. However, there are li mitations to
the assistance provided.
Read the following conditions carefully. Do not overly rely on this system
and always drive carefully.
• When the sensor may not be correctly detecting the vehicle ahe ad:

• Conditions under which the vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode
may not function correctly: P. 417
O Set the speed appropriately depending on the speed limit, traffic flow, road
conditions, weather conditions, etc. The driver is responsible for checking
the set speed.
O Even when the system is functioning normally, the condition of the preced-
ing vehicle as detected by the system may differ from the condi tion
observed by the driver. Therefore, the driver must always remai n alert,
assess the danger of each situation and drive safely. Relying s olely on this
system or assuming the system ensures safety while driving can lead to
an accident, resulting in death or serious injury.
O Switch the dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range setting to off
using the “ON-OFF” button when not in use.
