OThe current amount of the remaining hybrid battery (traction battery) is dis-
played in the Hybrid System Indicator or the sub-screen on the main display.

• The remaining battery for EV driving in EV mode is displayed in green,
and the remaining battery used in HV mode is displayed in blue.
• The amount of the remaining battery displayed decrease as the vehicle is
driven and increase when the hybrid battery (traction battery) is charged,
electrical energy is regenerated using the regenerative braking (P. 93)
or electricity is generated by the gasoline engine.
• If the remaining battery is not displayed in green, HV mode is automati-
cally selected and EV mode cannot be used. To enable EV driving,
charge the hybrid battery (traction battery). (P. 111)
OThe amount of the hybrid battery (traction battery) in HV mode is automati-
cally controlled by the hybrid system. The amount of remaining hybrid battery
(traction battery) in HV mode may not reach the top line
* even if electrical
energy is regenerated using the regenerative braking (P. 93) or electricity
is generated by the gasoline engine. However, this does not indicate a mal-
function. Also, even if the display of the remaining hybrid battery (traction
battery) exceeds the top line, the display is shown in blue until the vehicle
returns to EV mode.

ODepending on the charging situation, when the display of the remaining
hybrid battery (traction battery) is shown during charging, charging continues

Indicates the estimated distance that can be driven using the current
remaining hybrid battery (traction battery).

When the air conditioning system is operating, the driving range with the
air conditioning system on is displayed.
The EV driving range may shorten even when not driving due to power
consumption by the system.

This display inserts information from each driving support system accord-
ing to driving conditions.

Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.
Q When starting the vehicle
Always keep your foot on the brake pedal while stopped with the “READY”
indicator is illuminated. This prevents the vehicle from creepi ng.
Q When driving the vehicle
O Do not drive if you are unfamiliar with the location of the brake and accel-
erator pedals to avoid depressing the wrong pedal.
• Accidentally depressing the accelerator pedal instead of the b rake
pedal will result in sudden acceleration that may lead to an ac cident.
• When backing up, you may twist your body around, leading to a diffi-
culty in operating the pedals. Make sure to operate the pedals properly.
• Make sure to keep a correct driving posture even when moving t he
vehicle only slightly. This allows you to depress the brake and accelera-
tor pedals properly.
• Depress the brake pedal using your right foot. Depressing the brake
pedal using your left foot may delay response in an emergency, result-
ing in an accident.
O The driver should pay extra attention to pedestrians when the vehicle is
powered only by the electric motor (traction motor). As there i s no engine
noise, the pedestrians may misjudge the vehicle’s movement. Eve n
though the vehicle is equipped with the vehicle proximity notif ication sys-
tem, drive with care as pedestrians in the vicinity may still n ot notice the
vehicle if the surrounding area is noisy.
O Do not drive the vehicle over or stop the vehicle near flammable materials
such as leaves, paper or rags.
The exhaust system and exhaust gases can be extremely hot. Thes e hot
parts may cause a fire if there is any flammable material nearb y.
O During normal driving, do not turn off the hybrid system. Turning the hybrid
system off while driving will not cause loss of steering or bra king control,
however, power assist to the steering will be lost. This will m ake it more
difficult to steer smoothly, so you should pull over and stop t he vehicle as
soon as it is safe to do so.

NOTICE
QHybrid battery (traction battery) charge
If the shift position is in N, the hybrid battery (traction bat tery) will not be
charged. To help prevent the battery from discharging, avoid le aving the N
position selected for an extended period of time.
Q Situations where shift control system malfunctions are possible
If any of the following situations occurs, shift control system malfunctions
are possible.
Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place on level ground, a pply the park-
ing brake, and then contact any authorized Toyota retailer or T oyota autho-
rized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
O When the warning message indicating the shift control system appears on
the multi-information display.
O The display indicates that no shift position is selected for more than a few
seconds.
Q Notes regarding shift lever and P position switch operation
Avoid repeatedly operating the shift lever and P position switc h in quick suc-
cession.
The system protection function may activate and it will not be temporarily
possible to shift the shift position other than P. If this happ ens, please wait
for approximately 20 seconds before attempting to change the sh ift position
again.
Q When exiting the vehicle (driver’s seat only)
Check that the shift position indicator shows P and that the pa rking brake is
set before opening the door and exiting the vehicle.

Driving assist systems
XECB (Electronically Controlled Brake System)
The electronically controlled system generates braking force corre-
sponding to the brake operation
XABS (Anti-lock Brake System)
Helps to prevent wheel lock when the brakes are applied suddenly,
or if the brakes are applied while driving on a slippery road surface
XBrake assist
Generates an increased level of braking force after the brake pedal
is depressed when the system detects a panic stop situation
XVSC (Vehicle Stability Control)
Helps the driver to control skidding when swerving suddenly or
turning on slippery road surfaces.
XVSC+ (Vehicle Stability Control+)
Provides cooperative control of the ABS, TRC, VSC and EPS.
Helps to maintain directional stability when swerving on slippery
road surfaces by controlling steering performance.
XTRC (Traction Control)
Helps to maintain drive power and prevent the drive wheels from
spinning when starting the vehicle or accelerating on slippery roads
XHill-start assist control
Helps to reduce the backward movement of the vehicle when start-
ing on an uphill
To keep driving safety and performance, the following systems
operate automatically in response to various driving situations.
Be aware, however, that these systems are supplementary and
should not be relied upon too heavily when operating the vehi-
cle.

Driving
If the vehicle gets stuck in mud, dirt or snow, the TRC system may
reduce power from the hybrid system to the wheels. Pressing to
turn the system off may make it easier for you to rock the vehi cle in
order to free it.
To turn the TRC system off, quickly press and release .
The “Traction Control Turned Off” will be shown on the multi-in formation
display.
Press again to turn the system back on.
Q Turning off both TRC and VSC systems
To turn the TRC and VSC systems off, press and hold for more t han 3
seconds while the vehicle is stopped.
The VSC OFF indicator will come on and the “Traction Control Tu rned Off”
will be shown on the multi-information display.*
Press again to turn the systems back on.
*: Pre-collision brake assist and pre-collision braking will als o be disabled.
The PCS warning light will come on and the message will be show n on the
multi-information display. ( P. 6 5 9 )
Q When the message is displayed on the multi-information display show-
ing that TRC has been disable d even if has not been pressed
TRC is temporary deactivated. If the information continues to s how, contact
any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, o r any reliable
repairer.
