Remove the air conditioning fil-
ter from the filter case and
replace it with a new one.
The “ UP” marks shown on the fil-
ter should be pointing up.
When installing, reverse the steps listed.
Q Checking interval
Inspect and replace the air conditioning filter according to th e maintenance
schedule. In dusty areas or areas with heavy traffic flow, earl y replacement
may be required. (For scheduled maintenance information, please refer to the
“Toyota Service Booklet” or “Toyota Warranty Booklet”.)
Q If air flow from the vents decreases dramatically
The filter may be clogged. Check the filter and replace if nece ssary.

QWhen replacing the air conditioning filter
Observe the following precautions. Failure to do so may result in the air
conditioning system operating dur ing the procedure, possibly resulting in
injury.
O Check that the charging connector is not connected
The air conditioning may operate due to the “Climate Prep” ( P. 166) or
“Traction Battery Cooler” ( P. 145) setting. (if equipped)
O Do not use the Remote Air Conditioning System

Checking and replacing fuses
Turn the power switch off.
Confirm that the charging connector is not connected. Also, do not use the
Remote Air Conditioning System during the procedure.
Open the fuse box cover.
Engine compartment type A fuse box
While pushing the 2 claws, lift
up the cover.
When closing the cover, make
sure to attach the 2 claws.
Engine compartment type B fuse box
While pushing the 3 claws, lift
up the cover.
When closing the cover, make
sure to attach the 3 claws.
If any of the electrical components do not operate, a fuse may
have blown. If this happens, check and replace the fuses as nec -
essary.

When trouble arises
If a war ning light tur ns on or a warning
buzzer sounds
Calmly perform the following actions if any of the warning ligh ts
comes on or flashes. If a light comes on or flashes, but then
goes off, this does not necessarily indicate a malfunction in t he
system. However, if this continues to occur, have the vehicle
inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorize d
repairer, or any reliable repairer.

Indicates that:
• The brake fluid level is low; or
• The brake system is malfunctioning
 Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and con-

rized repairer, or any reliable repairer. Continuing to
drive the vehicle may be dangerous.
Brake system warning light (yellow indicator)
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The regenerative braking system; or
• The electronically controlled brake system
 Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.
Charging system warning light
Indicates a malfunction in the vehicle’s charging system
 Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and con-
tact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota autho-
rized repairer, or any reliable repairer.

sage is displayed.
The multi-information display shows warnings of system mal-
functions, incorrectly performed operations, and messages that
indicate a need for maintenance. When a message is shown,
perform the correction procedure appropriate to the message.

O If a message or image about an open/close state of a part or replenishment
of a consumable is shown
Confirm the part indicated by the multi-information display or a warning light,
and then perform the coping method such as closing the open doo r or
replenishing a consumable.
Q If “See Owner’s Manual” is shown
O If “Braking Power Low Stop in a Safe Place See Owner’s Manual” is shown,
this may be a malfunction. Immediately stop the vehicle in a sa fe place and
contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized rep airer, or any
reliable repairer. Continuing to drive the vehicle may be dange rous.
O If “Engine Oil Pressure Low” is shown, this may be a malfunction. Immedi-
ately stop the vehicle in a safe place and contact any authoriz ed Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repaire r.
O If the following messages are shown, there may be a malfunction. Immedi-
ately have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retai ler or Toyota

The P position switch may not operate. Immediately have the veh icle
inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorize d repairer, or
any reliable repairer.
When parking the vehicle, stop the vehicle on level ground and apply the
parking brake firmly.
Q If “Shift System Malfunction Shifting Unavailable See Owner’s Manual”
is shown
Indicates a malfunction in the shift control system. Immediatel y have the vehi-
cle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota autho rized repairer,
or any reliable repairer.
The shift position may not be shifted from P to other than P.

O After charging the 12-volt battery, the message may not go off until the shift
position is changed from P.
Q If “Shifting Unavailable Low 12-Volt Battery See Owner’s Manual” is
shown
Indicates that the shift position cannot be changed because the voltage of the
12-volt battery drops. Charge or replace the 12-volt battery.
(Coping method in the case the 12-volt battery is discharged: P. 697)
Q If “Hybrid System Overheated. Reduced Output Power.” is shown
The message may be shown when driving under severe operating co nditions.
(For example, when driving up a long steep hill or driving up a steep hill in

If the hybrid system will not star t
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
O The charging cable may be attached to the vehicle. (P. 155)
O The electronic key may not be functioning properly.* (P. 693)
O There may not be sufficient fuel in the vehicle’s tank.
Refuel the vehicle. ( P. 100)
O There may be a malfunction in the immobilizer system.* (P. 7 4 )
O There may be a malfunction in the shift control system.*
( P. 326, 672)
O The hybrid system may be malfunctioning due to an electrical prob-
lem such as electronic key battery depletion or a blown fuse. H ow-
ever, depending on the type of malfunction, an interim measure is
available to start the hybrid system. ( P. 692)
O There is a possibility that the temperature of the hybrid battery
(traction battery) is extremely low (approximately below -30 C
[-22 F]). (P. 100, 325)
*: It may not be possible to shift the shift position other than P.
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
O The 12-volt battery may be discharged. (P. 697)
O The 12-volt battery terminal connections may be loose or corroded.
( P. 594)
Reasons for the hybrid system not starting vary depending on
the situation. Check the following and perform the appropriate
procedure:
The hybrid system will not start even though the correct starti ng
procedure is being followed. ( P. 323)
The interior lights and headlights are dim, or the horn does not
sound or sounds at a low volume.
