WA R N I N G
●Do not leave a door or window
open if the curved glass is coated
with a metallized film such as a sil- ver-colored one. Reflected sunlight
may cause the glass to act as a
lens, causing a fire.
●Always apply the parking brake,
shift the shift lever to P (vehicles
with an automatic transmission), stop the engine and lock the vehi-
cle.
Do not leave the vehicle unat- tended while the engine is running.
If the vehicle is parked with the shift
lever in P but the parking brake is not set, the vehicl e may start to
move, possibly leading to an acci-
dent.
●Do not touch the exhaust pipes
while the engine is running or immediately after turning the engine
off.
Doing so may cause burns.
■When taking a nap in the vehicle
Always turn the engine off. Otherwise, if you accidentally move the shift lever
or depress the accelerator pedal, this
could cause an accident or fire due to engine overheating. Additionally, if the
vehicle is parked in a poorly ventilated
area, exhaust gases may collect and enter the vehicle, leading to death or
a serious health hazard.
■When braking
●When the brakes are wet, drive
more cautiously. Braking distance increases when
the brakes are wet, and this may
cause one side of the vehicle to brake differently than the other
side. Also, the parking brake may
not securely hold the vehicle.
●If the brake booster device does not operate, do not follow other vehi-
cles closely and avoid hills or sharp
turns that require braking. In this case, braking is still possible,
but the brake pedal should be
depressed more firmly than usual. Also, the braking distance will
increase. Have your brakes fixed
immediately.
●Do not pump the brake pedal if the
engine stalls. Each push on the brake pedal uses
up the reserve for the
power-assisted brakes.
●The brake system consists of 2 indi-
vidual hydraulic systems; if one of the systems fails, the other will still
operate. In this case, the brake
pedal should be depressed more firmly than usual and the braking
distance will increase. Have your
brakes fixed immediately.
■If the vehicle becomes stuck
Do not spin the wheels excessively when any of the tires is up in the air,
or the vehicle is stuck in sand, mud,
etc. This may damage the driveline components or propel the vehicle for-
ward or backward, causing an acci-
dent.
NOTICE
■Pre-driving check
Trapping small animals in the cooling
fan and belts of the engine may result
in a malfunction. Check that no small animal enters the engine compart-
ment and under the vehicle before
starting the engine.

■If you get a flat tire while driving
A flat or damaged tire may cause the
following situations. Hold the steering wheel firmly and gradually depress
the brake pedal to slow down the
vehicle.
●It may be difficult to control your
vehicle.
●The vehicle will make abnormal
sounds or vibrations.
●The vehicle will lean abnormally.
Information on what to do in case of a flat tire (P.345)
■When encountering flooded roads
Do not drive on a road that has
flooded after heavy rain etc. Doing so may cause the following serious dam-
age to the vehicle:
●Engine stalling
●Short in electrical components
●Engine damage caused by water
immersion
In the event that you drive on a
flooded road and the vehicle is flooded, be sure to have any author-
ized Toyota retailer or Toyota author-
ized repairer, or any reliable repairer check the following:
●Brake function
●Changes in quantity and quality of
oil and fluid used for the engine, transmission, differential, etc.
●Lubricant condition for the propel-ler shaft, bearings and suspension
joints (where possible), and the
function of all joints, bearings, etc.
Cargo and luggage
Take notice of the following
information about storage pre-
cautions, cargo capacity and
load:

■Things that must not be carried
in the trunk
The following things may cause a fire if loaded in the trunk:
●Receptacles containing gasoline
●Aerosol cans
■Storage precautions
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.
●Stow cargo and luggage in the trunk whenever possible.
●To prevent cargo and luggage from sliding forward during braking, do
not stack anything in the enlarged
trunk. Keep cargo and luggage low, as close to the floor as possible.
●When you fold down the rear seats, long items should not be placed
directly behind the front seats.
●Never allow anyone to ride in the
enlarged trunk. It is not designed for
passengers. They should ride in their seats with their seat belts
properly fastened. Otherwise, they
are much more likely to suffer death or serious bodily injury, in the event
of sudden braking, sudden swerv-
ing or an accident.

Press the “ON-OFF” switch. At this
time, (white) and the following dis-
tance setting indicator are displayed on the meter display.
The set vehicle speed display will read

front passenger's door are
closed.
• The driver’s seatbelt is fastened.
• The shift lever is in the D or M
position.
• The brake pedal is not
depressed.
• EyeSight operation is not tempo-
rarily stopped. (white) is
turned off. ( P.223)
• The road is not a steep slope.
• The steering wheel has not been
turned significantly in either
direction.
• The vehicle speed is between 0
km/h (0 mph) and approximately
180 km/h (110 mph).
• Parking brake is released.
• The GPF system warning light is
not illuminated or flashing.
• The driving mode is set to nor-
mal mode or sport mode.

When the Adaptive Cruise Control
system brings your vehicle to a
complete stop, 3 intermittent beeps,
1 short beep a nd 1 long beep will
sound, and the Adaptive Cruise
Control system will release control
of your vehicle.
In the following cases, a notification
will sound 1 short beep and 1 long
beep and Adaptive Cruise Control
is automatically canceled.

When the vehicle has stopped, the
automatic braking function will be gradually released and the vehicle will

Press and hold the (Following dis-
tance setting) switch for approximately
2 seconds or longer to switch from Adaptive Cruise Control to Conven-
tional Cruise Control. A notification

At this time, the following distance set-
ting indicator on the meter display turns
off and (white) is displayed.

6-1. Maintenance and care
Maintenance and care
 Remove dirt and dust using a
vacuum cleaner. Wipe dirty sur-
faces with a cloth dampened with
lukewarm water.
 If dirt cannot be removed, wipe it
off with a soft cloth dampened
with neutral detergent diluted to
approximately 1%.
Wring out any excess water from the
cloth and thoroughly wipe off remaining
traces of detergent and water.
■Shampooing the carpets
There are several commercial foam-
ing-type cleaners available. Use a sponge or brush to apply the foam. Rub
in overlapping circles. Do not use water.
Wipe dirty surfaces and let them dry.
Excellent results are obtained by keep- ing the carpet as dry as possible.
■Handling the seat belts
Clean with mild soap and lukewarm
water using a cloth or sponge. Also check the belts peri odically for exces-
sive wear, fraying or cuts.
■Meter visor
Do not place anything on top of meter visor. The color of the meter visor may
transfer.
Cleaning and protecting
the vehicle interior
Perform cleaning in a manner
appropriate to each compo-
nent and its material.
Protecting the vehicle inte-
rior

■Water in the vehicle
●Do not splash or spill liquid in the
vehicle.
Doing so may cause electrical com-
ponents, etc. to malfunction or catch
fire.
●Do not get any of the SRS compo-
nents or wiring in the vehicle interior
wet. ( P. 3 2 )
An electrical malfunction may cause
the airbags to deploy or not function
properly, resulting in death or serious injury.
■Cleaning the interior (especially instrument panel)
Do not use polish wax or polish
cleaner. The instrument panel may reflect off the windshield, obstructing
the driver’s view and leading to an
accident, resulting in death or serious injury.
NOTICE
■Cleaning detergents
●Do not use the following types of detergent, as they may discolor the
vehicle interior or cause streaks or
damage to painted surfaces:
• Non-seat portions: Organic sub-
stances such as benzene or gaso-
line, alkaline or acidic solutions, dye, and bleach
• Seats: Alkaline or acidic solutions, such as thinner, benzene, and alco-
hol
●Do not use polish wax or polish
cleaner. The instrument panel’s or
other interior part’s painted surface may be damaged.

■When working on the engine
compartment
●Keep hands, clothing and tools away from the moving fans and
engine drive belt.
●Be careful not to touch the engine,
radiator, exhaust manifold, etc. right
after driving as they may be hot. Oil
and other fluids may also be hot.
●Do not leave anything that may
burn easily, such as paper and rags, in the engine compartment.
●Do not smoke, cause sparks or expose an open flame to fuel or the
battery. Fuel and battery fumes are
flammable.
●Be extremely cautious when work-
ing on the battery. It contains poi- sonous and corrosive sulfuric acid.
●Take care because brake fluid can harm your hands or eyes and dam-
age painted surfaces. If fluid gets
on your hands or in your eyes, flush the affected area with clean water
immediately.
If you still experience discomfort, con- sult a doctor.
■When working near the electric cooling fans or radiator grille
Be sure the engine switch is off.
With the engine switch in ON, the electric cooling fans may automati-
cally start to run if the air conditioning
is on and/or the coolant temperature is high. (P.298)
■Safety glasses
Wear safety glasses to prevent flying
or falling material, fluid spray, etc.
from getting in your eyes.
NOTICE
■If you remove the air cleaner fil-
ter
Driving with the air cleaner filter removed may cause excessive
engine wear due to dirt in the air.
■If the fluid level is low or high
It is normal for the brake fluid level to
go down slightly as the brake pads
wear or when the fluid level in the accumulator is high.
If the reservoir needs frequent refill-
ing, it may indicate a serious problem.
