■Installing child restraint sys-
tem using a seat belt
Install the child restraint system in
accordance to the operation man-
ual enclosed with the child restraint
system.
If the child restraint system on hand
is not within the “universal” cate-
gory (or the necessary information
is not in the table), refer to the
“Vehicle List” provided by the child
restraint system maker for various
possible installation positions, or
check the compatibility after asking
the retailer of the child seat.

1 If installing the child restraint
system to the front passenger
seat is unavoidable, refer to
P.49 for the front passenger seat
adjustment.
2 If the head restraint interferes
with your child restraint system,
and the head restraint can be
removed, remove the head
restraint. Otherwise, put the
head restraint in the upper most
position. ( P.108)
3 Run the seat belt through the
child restraint system and insert
the plate into the buckle. Make
sure that the belt is not twisted.
Securely fix the seat belt to the
child restraint system in accor-
dance to the directions enclosed
with the child restraint system.
4 If your child restraint system is
not equipped with a lock-off (a
seat belt locking feature),
s e c u r e t h e c h i l d r e s t r a i n t s y s t e m
using a locking clip.
5 After installing the child restraint
system, rock it back and forth to
ensure that it is installed
securely. ( P. 6 1 )

Press the buckle release button
and fully retract the seat belt.
When releasing the buckle, the child
restraint system may spring up due to
the rebound of the seat cushion.
Release the buckle while holding down

Since the seat belt automatically reels
itself, slowly return it to the stowing
position.
■When installing a child restraint system
You may need a locking clip to install the
child restraint system. Follow the instructions provided by the manufac-turer of the system. If your child restraint
system does not provide a locking clip, you can purchase the following item from any authorized Toyota retailer or
Toyota authorized repairer, or any reli- able repairer: Locking clip for child restraint system
(Part No. 73119-22010)■ISOFIX lower anchorages
(ISOFIX child restraint system)
Lower anchorages are provided for
each rear seat. (Marks displaying
the location of the anchorages are
attached to the seats.)

Observe the following precautions. Failure to do so may result in death or
serious injury.
●Do not allow children to play with
the seat belt. If the seat belt becomes twisted around a child’s neck, it may lead to choking or
other serious injuries that could result in death. If this occurs and the buckle cannot be unfastened,
scissors should be used to cut the belt.
●Ensure that the belt and plate are securely locked and the seat belt is not twisted.
●Shake the child restraint system left and right, and forward and back-
ward to ensure that it has been securely installed.
●After securing a child restraint sys-tem, never adjust the seat.
●When a junior seat is installed, always ensure that the shoulder belt is positioned across the center
of the child’s shoulder. The belt should be kept away from the child’s neck, but not so that it could
fall off the child’s shoulder.
●Follow all installation instructions
provided by the child restraint sys- tem manufacturer.

for each rear seat.

fixing the top strap.

●When using the lower anchorages, be sure that there are no foreign
objects around the anchorages and that the seat belt is not caught behind the child restraint system.

■Fixing the top strap to the top

1 Vehicles with the luggage cover:
Remove the luggage cover.

2 Adjust the head restraint to the
upmost position.
If the head restraint interferes with the child restraint system or top strap instal-
lation and the head restraint can be removed, remove the head restraint. ( P.109)
3Latch the hook onto the top
tether anchorage and tighten
the top strap.
Make sure the top strap is securely latched. ( P.61) When installing the child restraint sys-
tem with the head restraint being raised, be sure to have the top strap pass underneath the head restraint.

●Firmly attach the top strap and make sure that the belt is not
twisted.
●Do not attach the top strap to any-
thing other than the top tether anchorage.
●After securing a child restraint sys-tem, never adjust the seat.
●Follow all installation instructions provided by the child restraint sys-tem manufacturer.
●When installing the child restraint system with the head restraint
being raised, after the head restraint has been raised and then the top tether anchorage has been
fixed, do not lower the head restraint.

●The rear seat reminder function deter- mines that luggage, etc., has been placed in a rear seat based on open-
ing and closing of a rear door. There- fore, depending on the situation, the rear seat reminder function may not
operate and you may still forget lug- gage, etc., in the rear seat, or it may operate unnecessarily.
●The rear seat reminder function can be enabled/disabled. ( P.354)

■Inside lock buttons
1 Driver’s side: Locks all the doors
Passenger’s side: Locks the

The front doors can be opened by pull-
ing the inside handle even if the lock
buttons are in the lock position.
■Locking the front doors from the outside without a key
1 Move the inside lock button to the
lock position.
2 Close the door while pulling the door handle.

■To prevent an accident
Observe the following precautions while driving the vehicle.Failure to do so may result in a door
opening and an occupant being thrown out of the vehicle, resulting in death or serious injury.
●Ensure that all doors are properly closed and locked.
●Do not pull the inside door handle while driving.
Be especially careful of the front doors, as the doors may be opened even if the inside lock buttons are in
the locked position.
●Set the rear door child-protector
locks when children are seated in the rear seats.
■When opening or closing a door
Check the surroundings of the vehicle such as whether the vehicle is on an
incline, whether there is enough space for a door to open and whether a strong wind is blowing. When open-
ing or closing the door, hold the door handle tightly to prepare for any unpredictable movement.

Pull the head restraint up.

pressing the lock release button .
WARNING
●Do not allow anyone to sit on a folded seatback or in the luggage
compartment while driving.
●Do not allow children to enter the
luggage compartment.
●Be careful not to get your hand
caught when folding the rear seat- backs.
●Adjust the position of the front seats before folding down the rear seat-backs so that the front seats do not
interfere with the rear seatbacks when folding down the rear seat-backs.
■After returning the rear seatback to the upright position
●Make sure that the seatback is securely locked in position by lightly pushing it back and forth.
●Check that the seat belts are not twisted or caught in the seatback.
If the seat belt gets caught between
the seatback’s securing hook and
latch, it may damage the seat belt.
Head restraints
Head restraints are provided
for rear seats.
WARNING
■Head restraint precautions
Observe the following precautions
regarding the head restraints. Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.
●Use the head restraints designed for each respective seat.
●Adjust the head restraints to the correct position at all times.
●After adjusting the head restraints, push down on them and make sure
they are locked in position.
●Do not drive with the head
restraints removed.

• If a pedestrian is bending forward or squatting or bicyclist is bending for-ward
• If a pedestrian/bicyclist is moving fast • If a pedestrian is pushing a stroller, wheelchair, bicycle or other vehicle
• When driving in inclement weather such as heavy rain, fog, snow or a sandstorm
• When driving through steam or smoke
• When the surrounding area is dim,
such as at dawn or dusk, or while at night or in a tunnel, making a detect-able object appear to be nearly the
same color as its surroundings • When driving in a place where the sur-rounding brightness changes sud-
denly, such as at the entrance or exit of a tunnel• After the engine has started the vehi-
cle has not been driven for a certain amount of time• While making a left/right turn and for a

Care should be taken if anyone in the following categories comes in contact
with the seats when the heater is on:
●Babies, small children, the elderly,
the sick and the physically chal- lenged
●Persons with sensitive skin
●Persons who are fatigued
●Persons who have taken alcohol or drugs that induce sleep (sleeping
drugs, cold remedies, etc.)
NOTICE
■To prevent damage to the seat heaters
Do not put heavy objects that have an
uneven surface on the seat and do not stick sharp objects (needles, nails, etc.) into the seat.
■To prevent battery discharge
Do not use the functions when the
engine is off.
