To apply: 
Release and then apply the electric parking brake manually (  pag
e 199).
To release: 
Apply and then release the electric parking brake manually.
If it is not possible to apply the electric parking brake or the red $ indicat
or lamp continues to Oash: 
Do not continue driving. Consult a q
ualiNed specialist workshop. 
Where necessary, also secure the parked vehicle against rolling away.
* The yellow $ indicat
or lamp is lit and the red $ indicator lamp Oashes for approximately ten seconds aser the
electric parking brake has been applied or released. It then remains lit or goes out. The electric parking brake is mal-
functioning.
If the state of charge is too low: 
Charge the 12 V battery.
To apply: 
Switch oM t
he vehicle.
The electric parking brake will be applied automatically. Display messages and warning/indicator lamps

If you do not want the electric parking brake to be applied, e.g. at an automatic car wash or when the vehicle is being
t owed, leave the vehicle switched on. This does not include having the vehicle towed with the rear axle raised.
If the electric parking brake is not applied automatically: 
Switch the vehicle oM and switc
h it back on 
Release and then apply the electric parking brake manually (  pag
e 199).
If it is still not possible to apply the electric parking brake: 
Consult a q
ualiNed specialist workshop. 
Where necessary, also secure the parked vehicle against rolling away.
To release: 
If the conditions for automatic release are fulNlled and t
he electric parking brake is not released automatically,
release the electric parking brake manually (  page 199).
If it is still not possible to release the electric parking brake: 
Do not continue driving. Consult a q
