ga ses such as carbon monoxide. Breathing in
th ese exhaust gases is hazardous tohealth
and results in poisoning. #
Never lea vethe engine and, if present,

enclosed space without su1cient venti-

speed and the transmission position is hor

Depress the brake pedal and push the DIRECT
SELECT le ver down past the /r stpoint of
re sis tance.
When the automatic transmission is in transmis-
sion position h, it will shiT gears automaticall y.
This depends, among other things, on thefo llo w-
ing factors:

R The position of the accelerator pedal

Yo u could otherwise failto recognise
dangers. When
the automatic transmission is shiTed to
position h,you can manually shiT it with the
stee ring wheel gearshiT paddle. If permitted, the
automatic transmission will shiT toa higher or
lo we rge ar depending on the steering wheel gear-
shiT paddle being pulled. Yo
u ha vetwo options for manually shiTing the
automatic transmission:
R Temp orary setting
R Perm anent setting
The gears will shiT automatically when manual
shiTing is deactivated.

dle 1 or2.
Manual shiTing will be activated for a short
time. The transmission position display will
show pand the cur rent gear.
% How long manual shiTing st ays activated
depends on various factors.
Manual shiTing can be deactivated automati-
cally in thefo llowing cases:
R When the drive prog ram is changed
R When theve hicle is restar ted
R When transmission position his engaged
again

R Ifth e transmission is in position k,the boot
lid must be closed.
R The seat belt tongue is inse rted into the seat
belt buckle of the driver's seat.
If th e seat belt tongue is not inse rted into the
seat belt buckle of the driver's seat, one of the
fo llowing conditions must be ful/lled:
- You shiT from transmission position j.
or
- You ha veprev iously driven at speeds
gre ater than 3 km/h.
When the electric parking brake is released, the
