QSituations in which the system may not
operate properly
OIn some situations such as the following,
an object may not be detected by the
radar sensor and front camera, prevent-
ing the system from operating properly:
• When a detectable object is approaching
your vehicle
• When your vehicle or a detectable object is wobbling
• If a detectable object makes an abrupt maneuver (such as sudden swerving,
acceleration or deceleration)
• When your vehicle approaches a detect- able object rapidly
• When a detectable object is not directly
in front of your vehicle
• When a detectable object is near a wall, fence, guardrail, manhole cover, vehicle,
steel plate on the road, etc.
• When a detectable object is under a
structure
• When part of a detectable object is hid- den by an object, such as large baggage,
an umbrella, or guardrail
• When there are many things which can reflect the radio waves of the radar in the
vicinity (tunnels, truss bridges, gravel
roads, snow covered road that have
tracks, etc.)
• When there is an effect on the radio waves to the radar that is installed on another vehicle
• When multiple detectable objects are close together
• If the sun or other light is shining directly on a detectable object
• When a detectable object is a shade of
white and looks extremely bright
• When a detectable object appears to be nearly the same color or brightness as its
surroundings
• If a detectable object cuts or suddenly emerges in front of your vehicle
• When the front of your vehicle is hit by water, snow, dust, etc.
• When a very bright light ahead, such as
the sun or the headlights of oncoming
traffic, shines directly into the front cam-
era
• When approaching the side or front of a vehicle ahead
• If a vehicle ahead is a motorcycle
• If a vehicle ahead is narrow, such as a personal mobility vehicle
• If a preceding vehicle has a small rear
end, such as an unloaded truck
• If a preceding vehicle has a low rear end, such as a low bed trailer
• If a vehicle ahead has extremely high ground clearance
• If a vehicle ahead is carrying a load which protrudes past its rear bumper
• If a vehicle ahead is irregularly shaped, such as a tractor or side car
• If a vehicle ahead is a child sized bicycle, a bicycle that is carrying a large load, a

QSituations in which the curve speed
reduction function may not operate
In situations such as the following, the curve
speed reduction function may not operate:
OWhen the vehicle is being driven around
a gentle curve.
OWhen the accelerator pedal is being
depressed.
OWhen the vehicle is being driven around
an extremely short curve.
QBrake operation
A brake operation sound may be heard and
the brake pedal response may change, but
these are not malfunctions.
QWarning messages and buzzers for
dynamic radar cruise control with full-
speed range
Warning messages and buzzers are used to
indicate a system malfunction or to inform
the driver of the need for caution while driv-
ing. If a warning message is shown on the
multi-information displa y, read the message
and follow the instructions. ( P.180, 374)
QWhen the sensor may not be correctly
detecting the vehicle ahead
In the case of the following and depending
on the conditions, operate the brake pedal
when deceleration of the system is insuffi-
cient or operate the accelerator pedal
when acceleration is required.
As the sensor may not be able to correctly
detect these types of vehicles, the approach
warning ( P.210) may not be activated.
OVehicles that cut in suddenly
OVehicles traveling at low speeds
OVehicles that are not moving in the same
lane
OVehicles with small rear ends (trailers
with no load on board, etc.)
OMotorcycles traveling in the same lane
OWhen water or snow thrown up by the
surrounding vehicles hinders the detect-
ing of the sensor
OWhen your vehicle is pointing upwards
(caused by a heavy load in the luggage
compartment, etc.)
OPreceding vehicle has an extremely high
ground clearance
QConditions under wh ich the vehicle-to-
vehicle distance control mode may not
function correctly
In the case of the following conditions,
operate the brake pedal (or accelerator
pedal, depending on the situation) as nec-
essary.
As the sensor may not be able to correctly
detect vehicles ahead, the system may not
operate properly.
OWhen the road curves or when the lanes
are narrow
OWhen steering wheel operation or your
position in the lane is unstable

that does not reflect ultrasonic waves (ex.
skirts with gathers or frills).
OWhen objects that are not perpendicular
to the ground, not perpendicular to the
vehicle traveling direction, uneven, or
waving are in the detection range.
OStrong wind is blowing.
OWhen driving in inclement weather such
as fog, snow or a sandstorm.
OWhen an object that cannot be detected
is between the vehicle and a detected
object.
OIf an object such as a vehicle, motorcycle,
bicycle or pedestrian cuts in front of the
vehicle or runs out from the side of the
vehicle.
OIf the orientation of a sensor has been
changed due to a collision or other
impact.
OWhen equipment that may obstruct a
sensor is installed, such as a towing eye-
let, bumper protector (an additional trim
strip, etc.), bicycle carrier, or snow plow.
OIf the front of the vehicle is raised or low-
ered due to the carried load.
OIf the vehicle cannot be driven in a stable
manner, such as when the vehicle has
been in an accident or is malfunctioning.
OWhen tire chains, a compact spare tire or
an emergency tire puncture repair kit are
used.
QSituations in which the system may
operate even if there is no possibility of a
collision
In some situations, such as the following, the
system may operate even though there is
no possibility of a collision.
OWhen driving on a narrow road.
OWhen driving toward a banner, flag, low- hanging branch or boom barrier (such as
those used at railroad crossings, toll
gates and parking lots).
OWhen there is a rut or hole in the surface
of the road.
OWhen driving on a metal cover (grating),
such as those used for drainage ditches.
OWhen driving up or down a steep slope.
OIf a sensor is hit by a large amount of
water, such as when driving on a flooded
road.
OThere is dirt, snow, water drops or ice on
a sensor. (Cleaning the sensors will
resolve this problem.)
OA sensor is coated with a sheet of spray
or heavy rain.
OWhen driving in inclement weather such
as fog, snow or a sandstorm.
OWhen strong winds are blowing.
OWhen vehicle horns, vehicle detectors,
motorcycle engines, air brakes of large
vehicles, the clearance sonar of other
vehicles or other devices which produce
ultrasonic waves are near the vehicle.
OIf the front of the vehicle is raised or low-
ered due to the carried load.
OIf the orientation of a sensor has been
changed due to a collision or other
impact.
OThe vehicle is approaching a tall or
curved curb.
ODriving close to columns (H-shaped steel
beams, etc.) in multi-story parking
garages, construction sites, etc.
OIf the vehicle cannot be driven in a stable
manner, such as when the vehicle has
been in an accident or is malfunctioning.
OOn an extremely bumpy road, on an
incline, on gravel, or on grass.

3627-2. Steps to take in an emergency
When using a flat-bed truck to trans-
port the vehicle, use tire strapping
belts. Refer to the owner’s manual of
the flat-bed truck for the tire strapping
method.
In order to suppress vehicle movement
during transportation, set the parking
brake and turn the power switch off.
Fluid leaks under the vehicle.
(Water dripping from the air condi-
tioning after use is normal.)
 Flat-looking tires or uneven tire
wear
 Engine coolant temperature gauge
continually points higher than nor-
mal.
 Changes in exhaust sound
 Excessive tire squeal when corner-
ing
 Strange noises related to the sus-
pension system
 Pinging or other noises related to
the hybrid system
 Engine missing, stumbling or run-
ning roughly
 Appreciable loss of power
 Vehicle pulls heavily to one side
when braking
NOTICE
QTo prevent damage to the vehicle
when towing using a wheel-lift type
truck
ODo not tow the vehicle from the rear
when the power switch is off. The
steering lock mechan ism is not strong
enough to hold the front wheels
straight.
OWhen raising the vehicle, ensure ade-
quate ground clearance for towing at
the opposite end of the raised vehicle.
Without adequate clearance, the vehi-
cle could be damaged while being
towed.
QTowing with a sling-type truck
Do not tow with a sling-type truck to pre-
vent body damage.
Using a flatbed truck
NOTICE

Do not tow with a sling-type truck, either
from the front or rear.
