Exercise 2: Starting and stopping engine
Objective:
This exercise teaches you about how the engine starts and stops and how the watercraft
behaves after starting and while idling.
Skills:
Identifying and performing engine starting and stopping controls and procedures.
Directions:
Launch the watercraft and practice this exercise while standing next to it in water free
from weeds or debris and at least 60 cm (2 ft) deep from the bottom of the watercraft. Never operate in water that is less than 60 cm (2 ft) deep, otherwise pebbles or sand
could be sucked into the jet intake, causing impeller damage or engine overheating.

Drill 1: Starting the engine
1. Attach the engine shut-off cord 1 to your wrist. Insert the clip 2, under the engine
shut-off switch 3. Make sure to keep the engine shut-off cord free from the handlebars
so the engine stops if the operator falls off. The clip may not pull free if the cord is
wrapped around the handlebars.
2. Push the start switch 4 (green button). EX / EX SPORT:
Do not squeeze the throttle lever. Otherwise, the engine will not start.
The engine is connected directly to the drive unit, so be prepared for forward thrust
when the engine starts. Apply only enough throttle to keep the engine running.
EX DELUXE / EX LIMITED:
Do not squeeze either the throttle lever or RiDE lever. Otherwise, the engine will not
start.
3. Release the start switch as soon as the engine starts to run.

Drill 2: Stopping the engine
1. Release the throttle lever and let the engine slow to idle.
2. Push the engine stop switch 1 (red button). The ignition circuit opens and stops the
engine immediately.
3. Practice pulling the engine shut-off cord to remo ve the clip from the engine shut-off switch.
Tips:
1. Attach the engine shut-off cord to your left wrist before starting the engine. To prevent
accidental starting, always remove the clip from the engine shut-off switch when the
engine is not running.
2. Do not operate the start switch for more th an 5 seconds at a time. Never push the start
switch while the engine is running.
3. If the engine does not start in 5 seconds, release the start switch and try again after 15 seconds. Continuous cranking for more than 5 seconds will discharge the battery
and the engine will not start.
4. When the engine starts, thrust from the jet unit will move the watercraft. Squeezing the throttle lever produces more thrust. Apply only enough throttle to keep the engine run-
ning.

Exercise 9: Operating with passengers
3. Have the passenger get on board and sit astride the seat. If additional passengers aregetting on, have them follow the same procedure.
4. Make sure all passengers are properly seated with their feet in the footwell and that they are securely holding on to the person in front of them or to the handgrip provided.
5. Attach the engine shut-off cord to your left wrist, and then install the clip to the engine shut-off switch.
6. Look in all directions, start the engine, and then start off slowly.
7. Practice accelerating, turning, and stopping to get accustomed to how the watercraft handles with passengers on board.

Übung 1: Starten des Motors
1. Befestigen Sie die Motor-Quickstoppleine 1 an Ihrem Handgelenk. Clip einsetzen 2, unter dem
Motor-Quickstoppschalter 3. Die Motor-Quickstoppleine von den Lenkergriffen fernhalten, so
dass der Motor abgestellt wird wenn der Fahrzeug führer abfällt. Der Clip wird unter Umständen
nicht herausgezogen, wenn er um die Lenkergriffe gewickelt wird.
2. Den Startschalter 4 (grüner Knopf) drücken.
EX / EX SPORT:
Betätigen Sie nicht den Gashebel. Anderenfalls lässt sich der Motor nicht starten.
Der Motor ist direkt mit der Antriebseinheit verbunden. Berücksichtigen Sie also den Vorwärts-
schub beim Starten des Motors. Geben Sie nur so viel Gas, dass der Motor läuft.
EX DELUXE / EX LIMITED:
Betätigen Sie weder den Gashebel noch den RiDE-Hebel. Anderenfalls lässt sich der Motor nicht
starten.

Übung 2: Anhalten des Motors
1. Den Gashebel loslassen und den Motor langsam auf Leerlaufdrehzahl drehen lassen.
2. Den Motorstoppschalter 1 (roter Knopf) drücken. Der Zündstromkreis wird getrennt und der Mo-
tor bleibt sofort stehen.
3. Ein Ziehen der Motor-Quickstoppleine üben, um den Clip aus dem Motor-Quickstoppschalter her- aus zu ziehen.
Wichtige Hinweise:
1. Vor dem Starten des Motors die Motor-Quickstopp leine am linken Handgelenk befestigen. Um ein
versehentliches Starten des Motors zu verhindern den Clip vom Motor-Quickstoppschalter entfer-
nen, wenn der Motor nicht läuft.
2. Den Startschalter nicht für länger als jeweils 5 Sekunden betätigen. Den Startschalter niemals drü-
cken, während der Motor läuft.
3. Falls der Motor nicht innerhalb von 5 Sekunden startet, den Startschalter loslassen und nach
15 Sekunden nochmals versuchen. Durch das ständi ge Starten für länger als 5 Sekunden wird die
Batterie entladen und der Motor lässt sich nicht mehr starten.
4. Mit dem Starten des Motors wird der Rückstoß aus der Jetdüse das Wasserfahrzeug bewegen.
Durch Drücken des Gashebels wird mehr Schub erze ugt. Nur so viel Gas geben, dass der Motor
am Laufen bleibt.

Übungsgruppe 3: Aufsteigen und Halten des Gleichgewichts
Übung 2: Aufrichten eines gekenterten Wasserfahrzeugs
Lassen Sie das Wasserfahrzeug nicht länger unter Wasser als nötig, um es wieder aufzurichten. Es
könnte mehr Wasser in den Motorraum eindringen, je länger das Wasserfahrzeug im umgekipptem Zu-
stand verbleibt.
1. Zum Üben des Aufrichtens zuerst das Wasserfahrzeug absichtlich zum Kentern bringen.
2. Den Clip vom Motor-Quickstoppschalter abziehen.
3. Schwimmen Sie zum Heck des Wasserfahrzeugs. Das Wasserfahrzeug durch Ziehen mit einer
Hand an der Gleitplatte umdrehen, während das Schandeck mit der anderen Hand oder dem Fuß
nach unten gedrückt wird.
4. Den Motor starten und das Wasserfahrzeug mindes tens 2 Minuten lang so geradeaus wie möglich
oberhalb der Gleitgeschwindigkeit betreiben, um jegliches verbleibendes Wasser völlig aus dem
Motorraum auszustoßen. (Für nähere Angaben siehe “Gekentertes Wasserfahrzeug” in der Be-
triebsanleitung.)
