Trailer Stability Assist *
Trailer Stability Assist (TSA 18
) is part of the
ESC 19
stability system and is a function
designed to help stabilize a vehicle that is towing a trailer when the vehicle and trailerhave begun to sway. The function is addedwhen installing a towbar. Contact a Volvoretailer for more information.
Reasons for swayingA vehicle towing a trailer may begin to sway for various reasons. Normally this only occursat high speeds. However, if the trailer is over-loaded or unevenly distributed, e.g. too farback, there is a risk of swaying even at lowspeeds. Swaying may be caused by factors such as:
The vehicle and trailer are hit by a sudden, strong crosswind.
The vehicle and trailer are traveling on anuneven road or over a bump.
Sudden movements of the steering wheel.
Once swaying has begun, it can be difficult orimpossible to stop it. This makes the vehicleand trailer difficult to control and there is a riskof swerving into oncoming traffic or driving offthe road.
Trailer Stability Assist functionTrailer Stability Assist continuously monitorsthe vehicle's movements, particularly lateralmovements. If swaying is detected, the brakesare applied individually on the front wheels,which has a stabilizing effect on the vehicleand trailer. This is often enough to enable thedriver to regain control of the vehicle. If the Trailer Stability Assist function's first attempt is not adequate to stop the swayingmotion, the brakes are applied on all wheelsand engine power is temporarily reduced. Asthe swaying motion begins to decrease andthe vehicle and trailer have once againbecome stable, TSA stops regulating thebrakes/engine power and the driver regainscontrol of the vehicle.
NOTE
Trailer Stability Assist is deactivated if the driver activates ESC Sport Mode in the
center display's menu system.
Trailer Stability Assist may not intervene if the driver tries to compensate for the swayingmotion by moving the steering wheel rapidly,because the system will then not be able todetermine if it is the trailer or the driver caus-ing the swaying. When Trailer Stability Assistis activated, the ESC symbolis displayed in the instrumentpanel.
NOTE
A vehicle software update is required when a towbar is retrofitted. Contact a Volvoretailer.

There may be a noticeable difference in sound quality when a change from ana-logue to digital or digital to analogueoccurs, such as:
Volume increase or decrease
Equalizer settings, i.e., Bass/ Mid-range/Treble cut or boost
Time alignment (Digital program mate-rial in extreme cases can be as muchas 8 seconds behind the analogue).This will noticeable as a "stuttering"effect.
The above items are dependant on thebroadcaster's equipment settings anddo not indicate a fault in the vehicle'sradio receiver or antenna systems .

Tires are perishable goods. After a few years, they will begin to harden and their frictionproperties will gradually deteriorate. Alwaysreplace tires with the freshest tires possible.This is particularly important for snow tires. Aseries of numbers is imprinted on the sidewallof the tire. The last four digits in the series isthe Department of Transportation (DOT)stamp and indicates the week and year thetire was manufactured. The tire in the illustra-tion has 0717 as the last four digits, whichmeans it was manufactured week 7 of 2017.
Tire ageTires degrade over time, even when they arenot being used. It is recommended that tiresgenerally be replaced after 6 years of normalservice. Heat caused by hot climates, frequenthigh loading conditions or Ultra Violet (U.V.)exposure can accelerate the aging process. The temporary spare

should also be replaced
at 6-year intervals, even if it has never been used. A tire with e.g., visible cracks or discol-oration should be replaced immediately.
Tire economy
Maintain correct tire pressure.
Avoid fast starts, hard braking and tirescreeching.
Tire wear increases with speed.
Correct front wheel alignment is veryimportant.
Unbalanced wheels impair tire economyand driving comfort.
Tires must maintain the same direction ofrotation throughout their lifetime.
When replacing tires, the tires with themost tread should be mounted on the rearwheels to reduce the chance of oversteerduring hard braking.
Hitting curbs or potholes can damage thetires and/or wheels permanently.
Tire rotationYour vehicle has no required tire rotation. Driv-ing style, tire pressure, climate and road con-ditions affect how quickly the tires age andexhibit signs of wear. Maintaining the correcttire pressure helps keep tread wear evenly dis-tributed. To help prevent differences in tread depth and wear patterns forming on the tires, the frontand rear wheels should be rotated, i.e. thefront tires moved to the rear and the rear tiresmoved to the front. Ideally, tire rotation shouldbe done the first time after approximately5000 km (ca 3100 miles) and thereafter at10,000 km (approx. 6200 miles) intervals. If you have any questions regarding tread depth, Volvo recommends consulting an authorized Volvo workshop. If significant dif-ferences in wear (> 1 mm difference in treaddepth) between the tires have already occur-red, the least worn tires should always bemounted on the rear wheels. A front-wheelskid (understeer) is usually easier to controlthan a rear-wheel skid (oversteer). If the frontwheels skid, the vehicle will continue in astraight line instead of the rear wheels skid-ding to the side, which could cause you tocompletely lose control of the vehicle. It istherefore important that the rear wheels neverlose grip before the front wheels.
Storing wheels and tiresWhen storing complete wheels (tires mountedon rims), they should be suspended off thefloor or placed on their sides on the floor. Tires not mounted on rims should be stored on their sides or standing upright, but should notbe suspended.
CAUTION
Tires should preferably be stored in a cool, dry, dark place, and should never be storedin close proximity to solvents, gasoline,oils, etc.

Rear seat ski hatch
The hatch in the rear seat backrest can be opened to transport long, narrow objectssuch as skis.
The illustration is generic - details may vary accord- ing to vehicle model.
1. In the cargo compartment, grasp the ski hatch handle and pull it down.
2. Fold down the armrest in the rear seat. If the private locking function is used, the ski hatch must be closed.

Installing and removing the cargo compartment cover

The cover can be rolled out to conceal objects in the cargo compartment.
Installing the cargo compartment cover
Press the end piece on one side of the cover into the retaining bracket in the sidepanel of the cargo compartment.
Then put the other end piece in the recess in the side panel on the opposite side.
Push the end piece down on both sides, one at a time.
> When a click is heard and the red marks on each end piece are no longer visible, the cover is in place. Check thatit is secure.
Removing the cargo compartment cover
In retracted position:
1. Press the button on one of the cover's ends and lift out that end.
2. Carefully lift the cover up and out. > The other end will release automaticallyand the cover can then be lifted out of the cargo compartment.
