■Fixing the top tether strap to the anchor bracket
Install the child restraint system in accordance to the operation
manual enclosed with the child restraint system.

Remove the head restraint.

■Sounds and vibrations sp ecific to a hybrid vehicle
There may be no engine sound or vibration even though the vehic le is able to
move with the “READY” indicator is illuminated. For safety, app ly the parking
brake and make sure to shift the shift position to P when parke d.
The following sounds or vibrations may occur when the hybrid sy stem is
operating and are not a malfunction:
● Motor sounds may be heard from the engine compartment.
● Sounds may be heard from the hybrid battery (traction battery) under the
rear seats when the hybrid system starts or stops.
● Relay operating sounds such as a snap or soft clank will be emi tted from the
hybrid battery (traction battery), under the rear seats, when the hybrid sys-
tem is started or stopped.
● Sounds from the hybrid system may be heard when the back door is open.
● Sounds may be heard from the transmission when the gasoline engine
starts or stops, when driving at low speeds, or during idling.
● Engine sounds may be heard when accelerating sharply.
● Sounds may be heard due to regenerative braking when the brake pedal is
depressed or as the accelerator pedal is released.
● Vibration may be felt when the gasoline engine starts or stops.
● Cooling fan sounds may be heard from the air intake vent. ( P. 89)
■ Vehicle proximity notification system
In the following cases, the vehicle proximity notification syst em may be diffi-
cult for surrounding people to hear.
● In very noisy areas
● In the wind or the rain
Also, as the vehicle proximity notification system is installed on the front of
the vehicle, it may be more difficult to hear from the rear of the vehicle com-
pared to the front.
■ When “Proximity Notification Syst em Malfunction Visit Your Dealer” is
displayed on the multi-information display
The vehicle proximity notification system may be malfunctioning . Have the
vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer immediately.
■ Maintenance, repair, recycling, and disposal
Contact your Toyota dealer regarding maintenance, repair, recyc ling and dis-
posal. Do not dispose of the vehicle yourself.

WARNING
■To prevent an accident
Observe the following precautions while driving the vehicle.
Failure to do so may result in a door opening and an occupant could be
thrown out of the vehicle, resulting in death or serious injury .
● Ensure that all doors are properly closed and locked.
● Do not pull the inside handle of the doors while driving.
Be especially careful for the front doors, as the doors may be opened even
if the inside lock buttons are in locked position.
● Set the rear door child-protector locks when children are seate d in the rear
seats.
■ When opening or closing a door
Check the surroundings of the vehicle such as whether the vehic le is on an
incline, whether there is enough space for a door to open and w hether a
strong wind is blowing. When opening or closing the door, hold the door
handle tightly to prepare for any unpredictable movement.
■ When using the wireless remote control and operating the power win-
dows or moon roof (if equipped)
Operate the power window or moon roof after checking to make su re that
there is no possibility of any passenger having any of their body parts
caught in the side window or moon roof. Also, do not allow chil dren to oper-
ate the wireless remote control. It is possible for children an d other passen-
gers to get caught in the power window or moon roof.

■When adjusting the seat
Take care when adjusting the seat so that the head restraint does not touch
the ceiling.
WARNING
■When adjusting the seat position
● Take care when adjusting the seat position to ensure that other passen-
gers are not injured by the moving seat.
● Do not put your hands under the seat or near the moving parts t o avoid
injury.
Fingers or hands may become jammed in the seat mechanism.
■ Seat adjustment
● To reduce the risk of sliding under the lap belt during a colli sion, do not
recline the seat more than necessary.
If the seat is too reclined, the lap belt may slide past the hi ps and apply
restraint forces directly to the abdomen, or your neck may cont act the
shoulder belt, increasing the risk of death or serious injury i n the event of
an accident.
Adjustments should not be made while driving as the seat may un expect-
edly move and cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
● Manual seats: After adjusting the seat, make sure that the seat is locked in
position.

Rear seats
Park the vehicle in a safe place.
Apply the parking brake firmly ( P. 262) and shift the shift position to P.
( P. 256)
Adjust the position of the front seat and the angle of the seatback.

Depending on the position of the front seat, if the seatback is folded back-
ward, it may interfere with the operation of the rear seat.
Lift up and push down the head restraints of the rear outboard
seats, and lower the head rest raint of the rear center seat.

Stow the armrest of the rear seat if it is pulled out. ( P. 486)
This step is not necessary when operating the left side seat on ly.
The seatbacks can be folded down.

Pull the seatback lock release
lever and fold the seatback down.
To avoid trapping the seat belt
between the seat and the inside of
the vehicle, pass the seat belt
inside the seat belt guide and then
return the seatback securely to
the locked position.

● Do not operate the rear seat if it is occupied.
● Be careful not to get feet or hands caught in the moving parts or joints of
the seats during operation.
● Do not allow children to operate the seat.
