Driving
●When the steering wheel or turn signal lever is operated while the
headlights are on (low beam), a cornering light will turn on and light
up the direction of movement of the vehicle. The cornering lights
are designed to ensure excellent visibility when making a turn at an
intersection.
However, when vehicle speed is approximately 93 mph (150 km/h) or
higher, the cornering lights will not turn on.
●When the shift position is in R while the headlights are on (low
beam), both cornering lights will turn on. This is designed to
enhance visibility when parking.
■Daytime running light system
●Type A:
The daytime running lights illuminate using the same lights as the low beam
headlights and illuminate dimmer than the low beam headlights.
Type B:
The daytime running lights illuminate using the same lights as the parking
lights and illuminate brighter than the parking lights.
●To make your vehicle more visible to other drivers during daytime driving,
the daytime running lights turn on automatically when all of the following
conditions are met. (The daytime running lights are not designed for use at
night.)
• The hybrid system is starting
• The parking brake is released
• The headlight switch is in the or
* position
*: When the surroundings are bright
The daytime running lights remain on after they illuminate, even if the parking
brake is set again.
●Daytime running lights can be turned off by operating the switch.
●Compared to turning on the headlights, the daytime running light system
offers greater durability and consumes less electricity, so it can help improve
fuel economy.
■Cornering lights (if equipped)
When the cornering lights are on for more than 30 minutes, they will turn off
automatically.

■If the malfunction indicator lamp illuminates
The malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate erroneously if refueling is per-
formed repeatedly when the fuel tank is nearly full.
Opening the fuel tank cap
The fuel tank of your vehicle has a special structure, which
requires a reduction in fuel tank pressure before refueling. After
the opener switch has been pressed, it will take several seconds
until the vehicle is ready for refueling.

4827-2. Steps to take in an emergency
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
●The electronic key may not be functioning properly. (P. 485)
●There may not be sufficient fuel in the vehicle’s tank.
Refuel the vehicle.
●There may be a malfunction in the immobilizer system.
(P. 86)
●There may be a malfunction in the steering lock system.
●The hybrid system may be malfunctioning due to an electrical prob-
lem such as electronic key battery depletion or a blown fuse. How-
ever, depending on the type of malfunction, an interim measure is
available to start the hybrid system. (P. 483)
●The temperature of the hybrid battery (traction battery) may be
extremely low (below approximately -22°F [-30°C]). (P. 81, 198)
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
●The 12-volt battery may be discharged. (P. 487)
●The 12-volt battery terminal connections may be loose or corroded.
(P. 411)
If the hybrid system will not start
Reasons for the hybrid system not starting vary depending on
the situation. Check the following and perform the appropriate
procedure:
The hybrid system will not start even though the correct starting
procedure is being followed. (P. 196)
The interior lights and headlights are dim, or the horn does not
sound or sounds at a low volume.

NOTICE
■Notice on fuel quality
●Do not use improper fuels. If improper fuels are used, the engine will be
damaged.
●Do not use leaded gasoline.
Leaded gasoline can cause damage to your vehicle’s three-way catalytic
converters causing the emission control system to malfunction.
●Do not use gasohol other than the type previously stated.
Other gasohol may cause fuel system damage or vehicle performance
problems.
●Using unleaded gasoline with an octane number or rating lower than the
level previously stated will cause persistent heavy knocking.
At worst, this will lead to engine damage.
■Fuel-related poor driveability
If poor driveability (poor hot starting, vaporization, engine knocking, etc.) is
encountered after using a different type of fuel, discontinue the use of that
type of fuel.
■When refueling with gasohol
Take care not to spill gasohol. It can damage your vehicle’s paint.
