Crosswind Assist ESP
®
Crosswind Assist de tects sudden gu sts of
side wind and helps the driver tokeep theve hicle
in the lane:
R ESP ®
Crosswind Assist is active at vehicle
speeds abo veappr ox. 80 km/h when driving
st ra ight ahead or cornering slight ly.
R The vehicle is stabilised bymeans of individ‐
ual brake application on one side. The instru‐
ment clus ter displa ysa message with the traf‐
fi c sign for a stro ng crosswind.
ESP ®
Crosswind Assi stdoes not react under the
fo llowing conditions:
R The vehicle is subjected tosevere jolts and
vib rations, e.g. as a result of une ven su rfaces
or po tholes.
R The vehicle loses traction, e.g. on snow or ice
or when aquaplaning. Fu

trailer stabilisation &
WARNING Risk of accident in poor road
and weather conditions
In poor road and weather conditions, the
trailer stabilisation cannot pr event lur ching of
th eve hicle/trailer combination. Trailers with
a high centre of gravity may tip over before
ESP ®
de tects this. Driving and parking

boundaries of parking spaces. In some circum‐
st ances, Active Parking Assist may therefore
guide you into the parking space prematurely. &
WARNING Risk of accident due to
objects located abo veor below the
de tection range of Active Parking Assist
If th ere are objects abo veor below the de tec‐
tion range, thefo llowing situations may arise:
R Active Parking Assist may steer too early.
R The vehicle may not stop in front of these
objects.
This could cause a collision. #
Inthese situations, do not use Active
Pa rking Assist. Sn
owfa ll or heavy rain may lead toa parking
space being measured inaccuratel y.Pa rking
spaces that are partially occupied bytrailer dr aw‐
bars might not be identified as such or be meas‐
ured incor rectly. Only use Active Parking Assist
on le vel, high-grip ground.
Do not use Active Parking Assist in thefo llowing
situations, among others:
R inextreme weather conditions such as ice,
pac ked snow or in heavy rain
R when cornering
R for parking spaces which are not on the same
le ve l as thero ad, e.g. not on the pa vement
R when transporting a load that pr otru des
be yond theve hicle
R when snow chains are fitted
Ac tive Parking Assist may also display parking
spaces that are not suitable for parking, for
ex ample:
R parking spaces where parking is prohibited
R parking spaces on unsuitable sur faces
Ac tive Parking Assist will not assist you with
parking spaces perpendicular tothe direction of
tra vel in thefo llowing situations:
R if two parking spaces are located immediately
next toeach other
R ifth e parking space is immediately next to a
low obs tacle such as a kerb
R ifyo u are parking forw ards Ac
tive Parking Assist will not assist you with
parking spaces parallel or perpendicular tothe
direction of tra vel in thefo llowing situations:
R ifth e parking space is on a kerb
R ifth e sy stem deems the parking space tobe
bloc ked, such as byfoliage or grass paving

partment, the battery or the fuses are
ta mp ered with.
R ifth e battery is disconnected.

Before leaving the driver's seat, alw ays
secure theve hicle against rolling away. #
Bring theve hicle safely toast op when the
parking symbol with an ar rowshows the
desired parking space. &
WARNING Risk of accident due tovehi‐
cle swinging out while parking or pulling
out of a parking space
While parking or pulling out of a parking
space, theve hicle swings out and can drive
onto areas of the oncoming lane.
This could cause youto collide wi thobjects
or other road users. #
Pay attention toobjects and other road
users. #
Where necessar y,stop theve hicle or
cancel the parking procedure with Park‐

Driving and pa rking

If
yo ufit M+S tyres that ha vea lo wer maximum
permissible speed than the maximum design
speed of theve hicle, af fix an appropria te warning
sign in the driver's field of vision. You can obtain
th is at a qualified specialist workshop.
Once you ha vefitted the winter tyres, take the
fo llowing measures:
R check the tyre pressure (/ page 250)
R restart the tyre pressure monitor

R Snow ch ains are only permissible for cer tain
wheel/tyre combinations. You can obtain
information on them at a qualified specialist
wo rkshop.
R For saf etyre asons, only use sn owchains that
ha ve been specifically appr ovedfo ryo ur vehi‐
cle byMercedes-Benz, or snow chains with
th e same quality standard.
R The sn owchains must be retightened af ter
driving appr oximately 1 km. This is the only
wa yto ensure the snow chains are optimally
seated with clearance toadjacent compo‐
nents. R
Use sn owchains only when thero ad sur face
is comple tely sno w-covered. Re mo vethe
snow chains as soon as possible when you
come toaro ad that is not sn ow-co vered.
R Local regulations may restrict the use of
snow chains. Obse rveth e applicable regula‐
tions before fitting snow chains.
R If sn ow ch ains are fitted, the maximum per‐
missible speed is 50 km/h.

on the tyre pressure table in the fuel filler flap
and in the tyre pressure tables (/ page 251).
Use a suitable pressure gauge tocheck the tyre
pressure. The outer appearance of a tyre does
not permit any reliable conclusion about the tyre
pressure.
