Ad ditives (special additives) for appro ved operat‐
ing fluids are nei ther requ ired nor permitte d.
Appr oved fuel additives are theex ception. Addi‐
tives can cause engine damage and must there‐
fo re not be added tothe operating fluids.
The use of additives is alw aysth ere sponsibility
of theve hicle operator. The use of additives may
re sult in there striction or loss of your wa rranty
claims. &

E10 fuel.

fuel before filling. The
following compatibility indications for fuel
apply to yourvehicle. 1
For petrol with maximum 5% ethanol byvol‐
ume
2 For petrol with maximum 10%ethanol by vol‐
ume
Ac cording toEuropean standard EN 1694 2you
can find the compatibility indications at thefo l‐

If th eav ailable fuel is not suf ficiently low in sul‐
phu r,th is can produce unpleasant odours.
The recommended octane number foryo ur vehi‐
cle can be found on the instruction label in the
fuel filler flap (/ page147).

the wrong additive
may lead tomalfunctions. #
Only add cleaning additives recommen‐
ded for Mercedes-Benzto the fuel. Mercedes-Benz
recommends using brand-name
fuels with additives.
In some countries, theav ailable fuel may not con‐
ta in suf ficient amounts of additi ves. Deposits
could build up in the fuel injection sy stem as a
re sult.
In this case, in consultation with a Mercedes-
Benz service centre, the fuel should be mixed
with the cleaning additive recommended by
Mercedes-Benz. 270

andard. The sulphur con tent of the diesel fuel
may not exceed the limit values forth e sulphur
content of diesel fuel stated abo ve. Only
appr ovedfatty acid me thyl es ter with this fuel
qu ality can avoid damage being caused due to
re sidue build-up and/or cor rosion.
Pure fatty acid me thyl es ter and diesel fuel that
has a higher percentage of fatty acid me thyl
es ter,fo rex ample, B20, could damage the fuel
sy stem and the engine.
The identification of thefa tty acid me thyl es ter on
th e fuel dispenser must clear lyindicate that it ful‐
fi ls thest andard for lo w-sulphur diesel fuel. If the
identification is not clear, do not refuel.

In count ries without sulphur-free diesel
fuel, refuel using only lo w-sulphur diesel
fuel with a sulphur content less than

countries in which only diesel fuel with a higher
sulphur con tent is available, theve hicle's engine
oil change is car ried out at shor ter inter vals. Fur‐

Note s on low outside temperatures
Re fuel your vehicle with as much winter diesel
fuel as possible at the beginning of winter.
Before switching towinter diesel fuel, the fuel
ta nk should be as em pty as possible. When first
re fuelling with winter diesel fuel, only refuel using
a small amount, forex ample, toreser veleve l. The
next time youre fuel, fill th e fuel tank again nor‐
mal ly.
