unctions of ABS The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)
regula testhe
brake pressure in critical driving situations:
R During braking, for instance, at maximum full-
stop braking or if there is insu1cient tyre trac-
tion, the wheels are pr evented from locking.
R Vehicle steerability while braking is ensure d.
If ABS inter venes when braking, you will feel a
pulsing in the brake pedal. The pulsating brake
pedal can be an indication of hazardous road con-
ditions and can ser veas a reminder totake extra
care while driving.

emer gency braking situation with additional brake

can set this speed with the permanent limiter.
Yo u do this by limiting the speed between
160 km/h and 240 km/h in the multimedia sys-
te m (/ page 276).
Shortly before the set speed is reached, it
appears in the driver's displa y.When you con/rm
th e message, display messages no longer appear
until you switch o. theve hicle. The speed will
only be displ ayed again once theve hicle has been
re star ted or if the set speed is changed. The permanent limi
ter does not switch topassive
mode even during kickdown and the driven speed

to monitor whe ther the driver holds the steering
wheel and initiates an emer gency stop if neces-
sa ry.
If Ac tive Steering Assist is deactivated, the accel-
erator and brake pedal are monitored as well as
th e steering wheel. A warning is issued when the
stee ring wheel is not being held or when a pedal
is not depre ssed, andtheve hicle is in danger of

multifunction camera and compares this with
information in the digital navigation map. It assists

speed.
In some countries, the system can pr ovide you
with fu rther functions and can warnyou when you
are approaching pedestrian crossings or when
yo u are about todrive past stop signs or red lights
unintentionall y.
