theve hicle nears an event, ECO Assist will
calculate the optimal speed for minimal energy
consum ption based on the distance and speed.
"Foot o. the accelerator" recommendation 3will
appear on the inst rument displa y.
If yo uta ke your foot o. the accelerator pedal in
good time, there maining segments on the display
will successively turn green until theeve nt sh own
is reached. The driv etra in will be set for minimal
energy consum ption. The vehicle will recuperate
autonomously and thus charge the high-voltage
batter y.
% You can also manually increase or reduce
re cuperation. Ho wever, ECO Assist is availa-
ble only in thehà setting (/ page 156).
If th ere is no response to"Foot o. the accelera-
to r" recommendation 3,the segments will
re main white.
The event will be shown for a short time aTer it
has been passed.
If th eev ent in volves a vehicle in front, all seg-
ments will immediately turn green once there is a
re sponse to"Foot o. the accelerator" prom pt3 . If ECO Assist cann
otidentify a recommendation
fo r adjusting the driving style forth eev ent ahead,
no thing will be displa yed. The system will be pas-
sive.

ECO Assist can function even more precisely if
th ero ute is adhered towhen route guidance is
active. The basic function is also available without
active route guidance. Not all information and
tra1c situations can be fore seen. The quality
depends on theav ailable map data.
ECO Assist is only an aid. The driver is responsible
fo rke eping a safe distance from theve hicle in
front, forve hicle speed and for braking in good
time. You must be ready tobrake at all times ir re-
specti veof whe ther the system is active.
The system may be impaired or may not function
in thefo llowing situations:
R Ifth ere is poor visibility, e.g. due toinsu1cient
illumination of thero ad, highly variable shade
conditions, rain, sno w,fog or heavy spr ay.
R Ifth ere is glare, e.g. from oncoming tra1c,
direct sunlight or re0ections. R
Ifth e windscreen is dirty in the vicinity of the
multifunction camera.
R Ifth e multifunction camera is misted up, dam-
aged or obscured.
R Ifro ad signs are hard todetect, e.g. due to
dirt, snow or insu1cient lighting, or because
th ey are obscured.
R Ifth e digital road map of the navigation sys-
te m has incor rect or outdated information.
R If signs are ambiguous, e.g. road signs in road-
wo rks or in adjacent lanes.
R Ifth era dar sensors are dirty or obscured.
R When you drive on roads with steep uphill or
downhill gradients.
R Ifth ere are nar row vehicles in front, such as

an unlimited str etch ofroad, there commended
speed is 130 km/h.
If Ac tive Distance Assist DISTRONIC has been put

pedal, only speed limits which are higher than the
set speed are adop ted.

When Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC is acti va-
te d, theve hicle speed will be adap ted accordingly
to thero ute events ahead. Depending on the drive prog
ram selected, theve hicle neg otiates a route
ev ent ahead in an economical, comfor table or
dynamic manner. When thero ute event has been
passed, theve hicle accelerates again tothe
stored speed. The set distance totheve hicle in
front, vehicles de tected ahead and speed restric-
tions ahead are take n into account.

speed adap tation in the multimedia system
(/ page 205).
