Immo bilizer systemThis vehicle is equipped with an immo-
bilizer system to help prevent theft by
re-registering codes in the standard
keys. This system consists of the fol-
lowing:
 a code re-registering key
 two standard keys
 a transponder (in each key)
 an immobilizer unit (on the vehicle)
 an ECU (on the vehicle)
 a system indicator light (page 3-5) A
bout the keys
The key with the red bow is used to
register codes in each standard key.
Store the code re-registering key in a
safe place. When necessary, take the
vehicle along with all three keys to a
Yamaha dealer to have them re-regis- tered.
Do not use the key with the red bow for
driving. It should only be used for re-
registering the standard keys. Always
use a standard key for driving.
TIP Keep the standard keys as well as
keys of other immobilizer systems
away from the code re-registering
key.
 Keep other immobilizer system
keys away from the main switch
as they may cause signal interfer-
ence.NOTICE

have been lost or damag ed , the en-
tire immo bilizer system must be re-
place d. Therefore, han dle the keys
carefully.  Do not su bmerse in water.
 Do not expose to hi gh tempera-
tures.
 Do not place near ma gnets.
 Do not place near items that
transmit electrical si gnals.
 Do not han dle rou ghly.
 Do not grin d or alter.
 Do not disassem ble.
 Do not put two keys of any im-
mo bilizer system on the same
key rin g.

TIPIf the steering will not lock, try turning
the handlebars back to the right slight-

cal systems are off. The key can be re-

TIPWhen the vehicle is turned on, the light
will come on for a few seconds and
then go off. If the light does not come
on, or if the light remains on, have a
Yamaha dealer check the vehicle.

ABS warnin g li ght “ ”
This warning light comes on when the
vehicle is first turned on, and goes off
after starting riding. If the warning light
comes on while riding, the anti-lock
brake system may not work correctly.

light does not go off after traveling 10
km/h (6 mi/h), have a Yamaha dealer
check the vehicle.

off after travelin g at a speed of 10
km/h (6 mi/h) or hi gher, or if the
warnin g li ght comes on or flashes
while ri din g, the b rake system re-
verts to conventional brakin g. If ei- ther of the ab

warnin g li ght does not come on at
all, use extra caution to avoi d possi-
b le wheel lock d uring emer gency
b rakin g. Have a Yamaha d ealer
check the brake system an d electri-
cal circuits as soon as possi ble.

Immo bilizer system in dicator

When the key is turned to “OFF” and
30 seconds have passed, the indicator
light will flash steadily to indicate the
immobilizer system is enabled. After 24
hours have passed, the indicator light
will stop flashing, however the immobi-
lizer system is still enabled.
The electrical circuit of the indicator
light can be checked by turning the key
to “ON”. The indicator light should
come on for a few seconds, and then
go off.
If the indicator light does not come on
initially when the key is turned to “ON”,
if the indicator light remains on, or if the
indicator light flashes in a pattern (if a
problem is detected in the immobilizer system, the immobilizer system indica-
tor light will flash in a pattern), have a
Yamaha dealer check the vehicle.
TIPIf the immobilizer system indicator light
flashes in the pattern, slowly 5 times
then quickly 2 times, this could be
caused by transponder interference. If
this occurs, try the following. 1. Make sure there are no other im- mobilizer keys close to the main
switch. Other immobilizer system
keys may cause signal interfer-
ence and prevent the engine from
starting.
2. Use the code re-registering key to start the engine.
3. If the engine starts, turn it off, and try starting the engine with the
standard keys.
4. If one or both of the standard keys do not start the engine, take the
vehicle and all 3 keys to a Yamaha
dealer to have the standard keys
re-registered.

TIPThis model is equipped with:  a lean angle sensor. This sensor
stops the engine in case of a vehi-
cle turnover. If this happens, the
engine trouble warning light will
come on, but this is not a malfunc-
tion. Turn the vehicle power off
and then back on again to cancel
the warning light. Failing to do so
will prevent the engine from start-
ing even though the engine will
crank when pushing the start
switch.

engine stops automatically if left
idling for 20 minutes. If the engine
stops, simply push the start
switch to restart the engine.

Startin g the en gineUnder normal conditions, shift the
transmission into neutral before start-
ing the engine. To start the engine with
the transmission in gear, the sidestand
must be up and the clutch lever pulled.
To start the engine1. Turn the main switch to “ON”, and
set the engine stop switch to “ ”.
2. Confirm the following lights per- form a circuit check. Coolant temperature warning

 Engine trouble warning light
 Oil pressure warning light
 ABS warning light
 Immobilizer system indicator
lightTIP The oil pressure warning light
should come back on and stay on
until the engine is started.
 The ABS warning light should go
off after reaching a speed of 10

Replacin g the fusesThe main fuse and the fuse boxes,
which contain the fuses for the individ-
ual circuits, are located under the rider
seat. (See page 3-19.)TIPTo access the main fuse, remove the
starter relay cover as shown.
If a fuse is blown, replace it as follows.
1. Turn the key to “OFF” and turn off the electrical circuit in question.
2. Remove the blown fuse, and then install a new fuse of the specified
