State and local vehicleinspection programs will make detection ofmisfueling easier, possibly resulting in emis-sion test failure for misfueled vehicles.
NOTE
Some U.S. and Canadian gasolines contain an octane enhancing additive calledmethyl-cyclopentadienyl manganese tricar-bonyl (MMT). If such fuels are used, yourEmission Control System performancemay be affected, and the Check EngineLight (malfunction indicator light) locatedon your instrument panel may light. If thisoccurs, please return your vehicle to atrained and qualified Volvo service techni-cian for service.
Gasoline containing alcohol and ethers, "Oxygenated fuels"
Some fuel suppliers sell gasoline containing "oxygenates" which are usually alcohols orethers. In some areas, state or local lawsrequire that the service pump be marked indi-cating use of alcohols or ethers. However,there are areas in which the pumps areunmarked. If you are not sure whether there isalcohol or ethers in the gasoline you buy,check with the service station operator. To
meet seasonal air quality standards, someareas require the use of "oxygenated" fuel. Volvo permits the use of the following "oxy- genated" fuels. However, the specified octaneratings must still be met.
Alcohol - Ethanol
Fuels containing up to 10% ethanol by volume may be used. Ethanol may also be referred toas Ethyl alcohol, or "Gasohol". Ethers - MTBE/ETBE: Fuels containing up to 22% MTBE/ETBE by volume may be used.
MethanolDo not use gasolines containing methanol(methyl alcohol, wood alcohol). This practicecan result in vehicle performance deteriorationand can damage critical parts in the fuel sys-tem. Such damage may not be covered underthe New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Trailer weights
WARNING
Please adhere to the recommendations provided for trailer weight. If the recom-mendations are not followed, the vehicleand trailer may be difficult to control duringevasive maneuvers and braking.
NOTE
The specified maximum trailer weights are those permitted by Volvo. National vehicleregulations may set additional restrictionson trailer weight and speed. The trailerhitches may be certified for higher towingweights than the vehicle is permitted totow.
Self-leveling suspension *The vehicle's self-leveling system attempts to keep the vehicle at a constant level, regardlessof load (up to the maximum permitted weight).When the vehicle is stationary, the rear end of the vehicle will be slightly lowered, which isnormal.
Driving in hilly terrain or hot weatherIn certain conditions, there is a risk of over-heating when driving with a trailer. If overheat-ing of the engine and drive system is detected,a warning symbol will illuminate in the instru-ment panel and a message will appear. The automatic transmission selects the opti- mal gear for the current load and enginespeed.
Steep inclines
Do not lock the automatic transmission into a higher gear than what the engine can handle
‒
it is not always preferable to drive in highgears at low rpm.

1. Depress the brake pedal.
2. Apply the parking brake.
3. Put the gear selector in P.
4. Release the brake pedal.Put chocks behind the wheels when the vehi- cle is parked on a hill with a trailer attached.
Starting on a hill

Towing using a towline
This section refers to one vehicle being towed behind another using a towline.
Never attempt to tow a Twin Engine vehicle behind another vehicle as this could damagethe electric motor. The vehicle must instead belifted onto a tow truck and transported with allfour wheels on the bed or lifting platform ofthe truck (no wheels may touch the road).
Towing another vehicleTowing another vehicle requires a lot of power - use the Constant AWD drive mode. This
helps charge the hybrid battery and improve the vehicle's driving and roadholding characte-ristics. Before towing another vehicle, check applica- ble speed limit regulations.
Jump startingNever attempt to tow the vehicle to start theengine, as this could damage the electricmotor. Use an auxiliary battery if the start bat-tery's charge level is so low that the enginecannot be started.
CAUTION
Attempts to tow-start the vehicle could cause damage to the electrical drive motorand three-way catalytic converter.

Use the towing eyelet to tow another vehicle. Screw the towing eyelet securely into placein the threaded outlet behind the cover on theright-hand side of the rear bumper.
NOTE
If the vehicle is equipped with a towbar, there is no rear attachment for the towingeye.

Snow chainsUsing snow chains and/or snow tires can help improve traction in winter driving condi-tions.
Volvo does not recommend use of snow chains on wheel dimensions larger than18 inches. For Polestar Engineered, Volvodoes not recommend use of snow chains onwheel dimensions other than 8.5x21 ET 38.5255/40.
WARNING
Use Volvo genuine snow chains or equiva- lent snow chains that are suitable for thevehicle model and the tire and wheel sizes.Only one-sided snow chains are permit-
ted. If uncertain about snow chains, Volvo rec- ommends contacting an authorized Volvoworkshop. Use of the wrong snow chainscould cause serious damage to the vehicleand result in an accident.
CAUTION
Snow chains can be used on the vehicle, with the following restrictions:
Always follow the manufacturer'sinstallation instructions carefully. Installchains as tightly as possible andretighten periodically.
Only put snow chains on the frontwheels (also applies to all-wheel drivevehicles).
If accessory, aftermarket or "custom"tires and wheels with different dimen-sions than the original tires and wheelsare used, snow chains in some casesmay NOT be used. Sufficient distancebetween the chains and brakes, sus-pension and body components mustbe maintained.
Check local regulations regarding theuse of snow chains before installing.
Never exceed the snow chain manu-facturer's specified maximum speedlimit. Under no circumstances shouldyou exceed 50 km/h (30 mph).
Avoid bumps, holes or sharp turnswhen driving with snow chains.
Avoid driving on surfaces withoutsnow as this wears out both the snowchains and the tires.
The handling of the vehicle can be adversely affected when driving withchains. Avoid fast or sharp turns aswell as locked wheel braking.
Some types of strap-on chains affectbrake components and therefore mustNOT be used.

Tire sealing system14
The temporary tire sealing system can be used to seal a puncture in a tire or to checkand adjust the pressure in the tire. Models equipped with a spare wheel 15
do not
have the tire sealing system.

The tire sealing system consists of a compres- sor and a bottle containing sealing compound.The sealing functions as a temporary repair.
NOTE
The sealing compound effectively seals tires with punctures in the tread but maynot be able to fully seal tires with punctu-res in the sidewall. Do not use the tire seal-ing system on tires with large tears, cracksor similar damage.
NOTE
The compressor is intended for temporary tire sealing and is approved by Volvo.
LocationThe tire sealing system is located in a foam block under the floor of the cargo compart-ment.
Sealing compound expiration dateThe sealing compound bottle must be replaced if its expiration date has passed (seethe decal on the bottle). Handle the old bottleas hazardous waste.

16. Check the inflation pressure on the air
pressure gauge.
If the pressure is under 1.3 bar (19 psi), the tire is not sufficiently sealed. Thevehicle should not be driven. Call road-side assistance to have the vehicletowed.
If the inflation pressure is higher than1.3 bar (19 psi), the tire must be inflatedto the inflation pressure specified onthe tire pressure decal on the driver'sside door pillar (1 bar = 100 kPa =14.5 psi). If the inflation pressure is toohigh, use the air release valve to releaseair.
WARNING
Check inflation pressure regularly.
Volvo recommends driving to the nearest authorized Volvo workshop to have the tirereplaced/repaired. Inform the workshop thatthe tire contains sealing compound. The sealing compound bottle and the hose must be replaced after use. Volvo recom-mends contacting an authorized Volvo work-shop for replacement.
WARNING
After using the tire sealing system, the vehicle should not be driven farther thanapproximately 200 km (120 miles).

The compressor is an electric device. Fol- low local regulations for disposal.

The vehicle's original tires can be inflated using the compressor in the tire sealing sys-tem.
1. The compressor must be switched off. Make sure that the switch is in the 0 (Off)
position and take out the electrical cable and the hose.
2. Unscrew the tire's valve cap and screw the hose's valve connector as far as possi-ble onto the valve. Be sure the air release valve on the com- pressor's hose is completely closed.
3. Connect the electrical cable to the nearest 12 V outlet and start the vehicle.
WARNING
Inhaling exhaust fumes could lead to seri- ous injury. Never leave the engine runningin an enclosed space or a space withoutsufficient ventilation.
WARNING
Never leave children unattended in the vehicle while the engine is running.

On-board Diagnostic SystemOBD II is part of your vehicle's computerized engine management system. It stores diag-nostic information about your vehicle's emis-sion controls. It can light the Check Enginelight (MIL) if it detects an emission control"fault." A "fault" is a component or systemthat is not performing within an expectedrange. A fault may be permanent or temporary.OBD II will store a message about any fault.

How can my vehicle fail OBD II emission
inspection?
Your vehicle can fail OBD II emission inspec- tion for any of the following reasons: If your Check Engine (MIL) light is lit, your vehicle may fail inspection.
If your vehicle's Check Engine light was lit,but went out without any action on yourpart, OBD II will still have a recorded fault.Your vehicle may pass or fail, dependingon the inspection practices in your area.
If you had recent service that required dis-connecting the battery, OBD II diagnosticinformation may be incomplete and "notready" for inspection. A vehicle that is notready may fail inspection.
