Disarming the alarm without a functioning
remote key
The vehicle can be unlocked and disarmed even if the remote key is not functioning, e.g. ifthe battery is discharged.
1. Open the driver's door using the detacha- ble key blade.
> This will trigger the alarm.
Location of the backup key reader in the cup holder.
2. Place the remote key on the key symbol inthe backup reader in the tunnel console's cup holder. 3. Turn the start knob clockwise and release.
> The alarm will be disarmed.
Turning off a triggered alarm–Press the unlock button on the remote key or put the ignition into mode I by turning
the start knob clockwise and then releas-ing it.
Automatically arming and disarming the alarm
Automatically arming the alarm helps prevent inadvertently leaving the vehicle without alarmprotection. If the vehicle is unlocked using the remote key (and the alarm is disarmed) but none of thedoors or trunk lid is opened within twominutes, the alarm will be automaticallyrearmed. The vehicle will also re-lock. On some markets, the alarm will be automati- cally armed following a slight delay after thedriver's door has been opened and closedwithout being locked. Driver Alert Control
The Driver Alert Control (DAC) function is designed to help alert the driver to erraticbehavior, e.g. if the driver is distracted orshowing signs of fatigue.
The objective of DAC is to detect slowly dete- riorating driving behavior and is primarilyintended to be used on major roads. The func-tion is not intended for use in city traffic. DAC is activated when the vehicle's speed exceeds 65 km/h (40 mph) and remainsactive as long as speeds are above 60 km/h(37 mph).
DAC detects the vehicle's position in the traffic lane.
A camera monitors the traffic lane's marker lines and compares the direction of the roadwith the driver's movements of the steeringwheel.
The vehicle is moving erratically in the lane.
If driving behavior becomes considerably erratic, thedriver will be alerted by thissymbol in the instrumentpanel, an audible signal and the message
Time for a
break.
If the vehicle is equipped with Sensus Navigation * and the Rest Stop Guidancefunction is activated, suggestions will also be provided for suitable places to take a break. The warning will be repeated after a short time if driving behavior does not improve.
WARNING
Driver Alert Control must not be used to extend a period of driving. The drivershould plan in breaks at regular intervalsand make sure they are well rested.
WARNING
An alarm from Driver Alert Control should be taken very seriously since a sleepy driveris often not aware of their own condition. If the alarm sounds or you feel fatigued:
Stop the vehicle safely as soon as pos- sible and rest.
Studies have shown that it is just as dan- gerous to drive while tired as it is to driveunder the influence of alcohol or otherstimulants.

Gear selector positions
Park - P
For the small gear selector, Park is activated using the P button next to the gear selector.
For the large gear selector, Park is activatedby moving the gear selector to position P.
In P mode, the transmission is mechanically
locked. Select P when the vehicle is parked or when
starting the engine. The vehicle must be sta- tionary when Park is selected. To move to another gear from Park, the brakepedal must be depressed and the ignition inmode
II. For vehicles with the small gear
selector, the engine must be running. When parking – apply the parking brake before shifting to Park.
WARNING
Always apply the parking brake when park- ing on an incline. Selecting a gear or put-ting the automatic transmission in P may
not be sufficient to keep the vehicle sta-tionary in all situations.
NOTE
The gear selector must be in position P in
order to lock the vehicle and set the alarm.

Recovery
This section refers to transporting the vehicle with a tow truck or similar vehicle.
Call a professional towing service for assis- tance. In certain conditions, the towing eyelet can be used to pull the vehicle onto a flatbed towtruck. For vehicles equipped with leveling con- trol *: If the vehicle is equipped with pneumatic
suspension, this feature must be turned off before the vehicle is lifted onto a tow truck.Turning off the function in the center display. 1. Tap

Disable Leveling Control.
The vehicle's location and ground clearance determine if it can be lifted onto a tow truck. Ifthe incline of the tow truck is too steep or ifthe ground clearance under the vehicle isinsufficient, attempting to pull it up may resultin damage. In this case, the vehicle shouldonly be lifted with the tow truck's lifting equip-ment.
WARNING
No person or object should be behind the tow truck when the vehicle is lifted ontothe bed of the truck.
CAUTION
The towing eyelet is only intended for tow- ing on roads, and must not be used to pull
vehicles from ditches or any similar pur-pose involving severe strain. Call a towtruck for professional assistance.
CAUTION
Note that the vehicle must always be towed with the wheels rolling forward.

Once HomeLink ®
is programmed, it can be
used instead of the separate remote controls.
Press and hold the programming button. The garage door, gate, alarm system, etc. will beactivated (this may take several seconds). Ifthe button is held down for more than 20 sec-onds, reprogramming will begin. The indicatorlight will glow steadily or flash when the but-ton has been pressed. The original remotecontrols may be used concurrently with HomeLink ®
if desired.
NOTE
When the ignition is switched off, HomeLink ®
will be active for at least
7 minutes.
NOTE
HomeLink ®
cannot be used if the vehicle is
locked and the alarm is armed * from the
outside.

If you use HomeLink ®
to open a garage
door or gate, be sure no one is near the gate or door while it is in motion.

NOTE
One of the sensors for the alarm * is located
under the cup holder in the center console. Avoid placing coins, keys and other metalobjects in the cup holder as this could trig-ger the alarm.
NOTE
The USB port can be used to e.g. charge a cellular phone or tablet. Only the front USBport can be used to play media through thevehicle's speakers.
