Tire direction of rotation Tires with tread designed to roll in only one direction are marked with an arrow on thesidewall.
The arrow shows the tire's direction of rotation.
The tire should maintain the same direc- tion of rotation throughout its service life.
Tires should only be moved between thefront and back, never from right to left orvice versa.
Incorrectly mounted tires impair the vehi-cle's braking properties and ability to forceaside rain, snow and slush.
The tires with the most tread shouldalways be mounted on the rear wheels tohelp reduce the risk of skidding.
NOTE
Use tires of the same type, dimensions and make (manufacturer) on each axle.

Tread wear indicatorThe tread wear indicator shows the status of the tire's tread.
The tread wear indicator is a narrow elevated strip running across the tire's longitudinaltread grooves. The letters TWI (Tread WearIndicator) are visible on the side of the tire.When approximately 1.6 mm (1/16 inch) is lefton the tread, the tread will be at the sameheight as the tread wear indicator. Replace thetire as soon as possible. Tires with low treadoffer very poor traction in rain or snow.

Tire terminology
The following is a glossary of tire-related terms.
The tire suppliers may have additional mark- ings, notes or warnings such as standard load,radial tubeless, etc.
Tire information placard
: A placard
showing the OE (Original Equipment) tiresizes, recommended inflation pressure,and the maximum weight the vehicle cancarry.
Tire Identification Number (TIN)
: A num-
ber on the sidewall of each tire providinginformation about the tire brand and man-ufacturing plant, tire size and date of man-ufacture.
Inflation pressure
: A measure of the
amount of air in a tire.
Standard load
: A class of P-metric or
Metric tires designed to carry a maximumload at 35 psi [37 psi (2.5 bar) for Metrictires]. Increasing the inflation pressurebeyond this pressure will not increase thetires load carrying capability.
Extra load
: A class of P-metric or Metric
tires designed to carry a heavier maximumload at 41 psi [43 psi (2.9 bar) for Metrictires]. Increasing the inflation pressurebeyond this pressure will not increase thetire's load carrying capability.
kPa
: Kilopascal, a metric unit of air pres-
sure.
PSI
: Pounds per square inch, a standard
unit of air pressure.
B-pillar
: The structural member at the
side of the vehicle behind the front door.
Bead area of the tire
: Area of the tire next
to the rim.
Sidewall of the tire
: Area between the
bead area and the tread.
Tread area of the tire
: Area of the perime-
ter of the tire that contacts the road whenmounted on the vehicle.
Rim
: The metal support (wheel) for a tire
or a tire and tube assembly upon whichthe tire beads are seated.
Maximum load rating
: a figure indicating
the maximum load in pounds and kilo-grams that can be carried by the tire. Thisrating is established by the tire manufac-turer.
Maximum permissible inflationpressure
: the greatest amount of air pres-
sure that should ever be put in the tire.This limit is set by the tire manufacturer.
Recommended tire inflation pressure
:
inflation pressure, established by Volvo,which is based on the type of tires that aremounted on a vehicle at the factory. Thisinformation can be found on the tire infla-

Stowing a flat tire1. Screw the spare tire's retaining bolt backon.
CAUTION
Do not attempt to unscrew the lower part of the retaining bolt if it is attached to thebody, as this could cause it to break. If the retaining bolt becomes dislodged from its lower attachment point in thebody under the spare tire, replace it in thehole and turn clockwise to secure it again.
2. Put the tools back in their correct posi-tions in the foam block.
3. Then lower the trunk/cargo compartment floor and place the punctured tire in the trunk/cargo compartment.

Snow tires
Snow tires are designed for winter driving conditions.
Volvo recommends snow tires with specific dimensions. The tire dimensions vary depend-ing on engine type. When driving with snowtires, the correct type of tires must be moun-ted on all four wheels.
NOTE
Contact a Volvo dealer for advice on the best choice of rims and tires.
Tips for changing snow tiresWhen switching between regular tires and snow tires, mark the tires according to whichside they were mounted on, e.g. L for left and
R for right.
Studded tiresStudded tires should be broken in by driving500–1000 km (300–600 miles) slowly andgently to help the studs settle properly in thetires. This gives the tire, and especially thestuds, a longer service life.
NOTE
Regulations regarding the use of studded tires vary from country to country.
Tread depthRoad conditions with ice, slush and low tem- peratures place considerably higher demandson tires than summer conditions. Volvo there-fore recommends not driving on snow tiresthat have a tread depth of less than 4 mm(0.15 inch).

Snow chainsUsing snow chains and/or snow tires can help improve traction in winter driving condi-tions.
Volvo does not recommend use of snow chains on wheel dimensions larger than18 inches.
WARNING
Use Volvo genuine snow chains or equiva- lent snow chains that are suitable for thevehicle model and the tire and wheel sizes.Only one-sided snow chains are permit-
ted. If uncertain about snow chains, Volvo rec- ommends contacting an authorized Volvoworkshop. Use of the wrong snow chainscould cause serious damage to the vehicleand result in an accident.
CAUTION
Snow chains can be used on the vehicle, with the following restrictions:
Always follow the manufacturer'sinstallation instructions carefully. Installchains as tightly as possible andretighten periodically.
Only put snow chains on the frontwheels (also applies to all-wheel drivevehicles).
If accessory, aftermarket or "custom"tires and wheels with different dimen-sions than the original tires and wheelsare used, snow chains in some casesmay NOT be used. Sufficient distancebetween the chains and brakes, sus-pension and body components mustbe maintained.
Check local regulations regarding theuse of snow chains before installing.
Never exceed the snow chain manu-facturer's specified maximum speedlimit. Under no circumstances shouldyou exceed 50 km/h (30 mph).
Avoid bumps, holes or sharp turnswhen driving with snow chains.
Avoid driving on surfaces withoutsnow as this wears out both the snowchains and the tires.
The handling of the vehicle can be adversely affected when driving withchains. Avoid fast or sharp turns aswell as locked wheel braking.
Some types of strap-on chains affectbrake components and therefore mustNOT be used.

Monthly:
Check cold tire pressure in all tires. Inspect the tires for wear.
Check that engine coolant and other fluidlevels are between the indicated "min"and "max" markings.
Clean interior glass surfaces with a glasscleaner and soft paper towels.
Wipe driver information displays with asoft cloth.
Visually inspect battery terminals for cor-rosion. Corrosion may indicate a loose ter-minal connector, or a battery near the endof its useful service life. Consult your Volvoretailer for additional information.
As needed:
Wash the vehicle, including the undercarriage, to reduce wear that can be caused by abuildup of dirt, and corrosion that can becaused by salt residues. Clean leaves and twigs from air intake vents at the base of the windshield, and from other pla-ces where they may collect.

Data transfer between vehicle and workshop over Wi-Fi
Volvo workshops have a designated Wi-Fi network for data transfer between your vehi-cle and the workshop. Your visit to the work-shop will be easier and more effective whendiagnostics information and software can betransferred over the workshop's network.
At the workshop, your service technician can connect your vehicle to the workshop's Wi-Finetwork to perform troubleshooting anddownload software. For this type of communi-cation, the vehicle only connects to a work-shop's network. It is not possible to connectthe vehicle to another Wi-Fi network (e.g. yourhome network) in the same way as to a work-shop's network.
Connecting with remote keyConnection is usually managed by the servicetechnician, who will use the remote key but-tons. It is therefore important to bring a keywith buttons with you when you visit theworkshop. Pressing the lock button on theremote key three times will connect the vehi-cle to the workshop's Wi-Fi network. When the car is connected to a Wi-Fi net- work, the
symbol appears in the center
display.

Replacing bulbs
Bulb types vary depending on model and equipment level. If a light bulb 15
breaks, it can
be replaced by following the procedure shown in the Owner's Manual. If you are experiencing problems with any lights other than light bulbs, contact a work- shop 16
.
If there is a problem with an LED 17
light, the
entire lamp unit will normally need to be replaced.
NOTE
For information on lights not mentioned in the Owner's Manual, contact a Volvodealer or a certified Volvo service techni-cian.
WARNING
The vehicle electrical system must be in ignition mode 0 when bulbs are replaced.
CAUTION
Never touch the bulb glass with your bare fingers. Grease and oils from your fingersvaporize in the heat and will leave adeposit on the reflector, which may dam-age it.
NOTE
If the error message persists after the defective bulb has been replaced, we rec-ommend a visit to an authorized Volvoworkshop.
NOTE
Exterior lighting such as headlights and taillights may develop temporary conden-sation on the inside of the lens. This is nor-mal. All exterior lighting is designed toresist this. Condensation is normally ven-ted out of the lamp housing once the lighthas been lit for some period of time.
NOTE
Bulbs for active curve lighting * contain
traces of mercury and should therefore always be submitted to a certified Volvoservice technician.

Left-side rear fog light
Left-side bulb housing.
1. Remove the bulb holder by turning it aquarter-turn counterclockwise and then pulling it out.
2. Remove the old bulb from the bulb holder by pressing it in and turning it counter-clockwise.
3. Insert the new bulb by pressing it in and turning it clockwise.
4. Wipe any dirt, grease or moisture from the bulb's glass.
5. Insert the bulb into the bulb holder and turn it a quarter-turn clockwise.
6. Put the panel, plastic cover over the hinge and other parts back into place in thereverse order.
