Maintenance and Care
WARNING
■Do not perform maintenance work if you lack sufficient knowledge and
experience or the proper tools an d equipment to do the work. Have
maintenance work done by a qualified technician
Performing maintenance work on a vehicle is dangerous if not do ne prop-
erly. You can be seriously injured while performing some mainte nance pro-
cedures.
■ If you must run the engine while working under the hood, make c ertain
that you remove all jewelry (especially rings, bracelets, watch es, and
necklaces) and all neckties, scarves, and similar loose clothin g before
getting near the engine or cooling fan which may turn on unexpe ctedly
Working under the hood with the engine running is dangerous. It becomes
even more dangerous when you wear jewelry, loose clothing or ha ve long
hair or a long beard.
Either can become entangled in moving parts and result in injur y.
■ Switch the ignition to off and make sure the fan is not runnin g
before attempting to work near the cooling fan
Working near the cooling fan when it is running is dangerous. T he fan could
continue running indefinitely even if the engine has stopped an d the engine
compartment temperature is high. You could be hit by the fan an d seriously
injured.
■ Do not leave items in the engine compartment
After you have finished checking or doing servicing in the engi ne compart-
ment, do not forget and leave items such as tools or rags in th e engine com-
partment.
Tools or other items left in the engine compartment could cause engine
damage or a fire leading to an unexpected accident.

After replacing the engine oil, have a repair shop such as your Toyota
dealer perform the initialization (engine oil data resetting) o f the
recorded value. If the value recorded by the computer is not in itialized,
the wrench indicator light may not turn off or it may turn on e arlier than
normal.
● This procedure is intended for vehicles with the engine oil fle xible mainte-
nance setting selected.
● The initialization (engine oil data resetting) of the recorded value can be per-
formed using the following procedure:
Switch the ignition OFF.
Vehicle Engine Control U nit Reset Procedure

Engine Coolant
Inspect the antifreeze protection and coolant level in the cool ant res-
ervoir at least once a year—at the beginning of the winter seas on—
and before traveling where temperatures may drop below freezing .
Inspect the condition and connec tions of all cooling system and
heater hoses.
Replace any that are sw ollen or deteriorated.
The coolant should be at full in the
radiator and between the F and L
marks on the coolant reservoir
when the engine is cool. Cooling fan

Coolant reservoir
If it is at or near L, add enough coolant to the coolant reserv oir to pro-
vide freezing and corrosion prote ction and to bring the level to F.
Securely tighten the coolant re servoir tank cap after adding co olant.
If the coolant reservoir is empty or new coolant is required frequently,
